II you are looking for a dojo that uses the traditional approach that focuses on character development as well as self-defense, then I would highly recommend Jim Rivera’s OWAZA RYU JUJITSU/JUDO Martial Arts. Sensei has many years of real life experiences as well as legitimate training and certifications in his craft. My grandsons have been working with Sensei for over 3+ years. They have thrived and remained motivated to learn due to his passionate, caring and patient attitude. These qualities are of great benefit- especially if you have kids with learning and/or attention challenges. Sensei values his kids and adult students’ learning and will often invite other master artists to come to his dojo to share their knowledge. This to me is the essence of a true teacher. This is the Best Self Defense school any student could ask for. Shihan Jim Rivera is a no nonsense old school martial arts teacher. You will leave every class tired covered in sweat, with a sense of self accomplishment. His techniques are some of the best I have ever seen, simple and effective. It is a great mix of judo, karate, aikido and ju jutsu. If you want to be a great martial artist i recommend studying here. More...

Owaza is a fantastic place to study and train in self defense and martial arts. It consists of like minded people who come to become physically and mentally fit. A place to learn new skills and hone and perfect existing ones. A place to learn confidence. It’s a place to come to so when push comes to shove you can defend yourself.
