Optimal K9 Dog Obedience & Protection Training

Benjamin was not a good fit! He could never show up on time; we would agree on the time for our session but he wouldn't come until we responded to a text message confirming the session. We do not sit on our phones snd check texts constantly. I don't know why he would not call before coming instead of texting. But we had a session planned and if we were not going to be able to keep that appointment, we would have let him know. He never showed up on time. On the last appointment, he called and told us he was on his way. He was 20 minutes late. We told him that we would not need his services and he informed us that he would not refund any of our money. Then later he texted me and said he was late because there was a wreck on the freeway and that made him late. Again, why didn't he call me and let me know. I am retired but do electrical work for people and I had an appointment later and if we had had our session, it would have made me late for that appointment. I do not show up late for my appointments. If I did, I would not keep my business and would not keep getting referrals from others!! Being on time and doing what you say you will do is how you keep your business!
He quoted us $135.00 for 2 dogs for 1 hr per dog. Then when I told him that he was not working an hr for each dog, he said that he does not work an hour per dog. So what is it? How long does he work per dog? He was charging by the hour or so he said when he quoted us. He did a lot of talking instead of working the dogs.
So I am out over $800 for our two dogs and I feel that not much was learned!! I feel since he was late for every session, I am do a refund!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE FOR DOG TRAINING. More...

Hello Charles, I am sorry that you where so unsatisfied with the service! Optimal k-9’s trainers send a txt or call an hour before departing to ensure that the client is still available for the appointment. If the client is available there should be no issue getting in contact with them. However it was very hard to get a txt back from you, which would cause our trainers to be late as we cannot depart without confirmation of availability from client. As for the training the trainer is responsible for teaching YOU how to be a leader & guide for your dog. Not doing the training for you. It does you no good for your dogs to only listen to the trainer & not to you as their actual owner. It also is important that the gameplan the trainer sets up for you & your dog is followed & if there are any disconnects that is communicated. Benjamin recommended several diffrent tools for you to purchase to help you practice skills with your dogs & 3 sessions in none of the equipment had been purchased! How can you expect to see progress if you are not practicing these skills when the trainer is not present ? We would recommend that if you are not prepared to listen to professionals that you dont hire any dog trainers & just do the training yourself. Should you change your mind you still have 3 sessions available and optimal k9 would love to help you get on the right track with your dogs !

Benjamin and Davy did an amazing job training my dogs, Keya and Bruno, during the 2 week board and train program. Keya is a 2. 5 years old lab and Shepherd mix, and Bruno is 7 month old Great Pyrenees. Keya has been completely off-leash since she came back. I have had zero issues with her. She follows every command that I give her. Bruno, still being a puppy, had a bit of a relapse couple of weeks after I got him back, but Davy and Benjamin came out to my place for a free consultation and addressed the issue right away. These guys are professionals, and really do an amazing job training dogs. Both of my dogs used to pull quite a lot, now they walk right besides me without a leash.

Optimal K9 responded to my inquiry quickly. I was able to schedule the initial appointment for that same week. Benjamin came and was professional, knowledgeable, and understood what I needed for my Tank. Tank is new to apartment living and I knew I needed correction just as much, if not more than, Tank. We have now had 4 sessions and Tank is great on the leash. He is no longer pulling, I can have him sit when around other dogs, he’s getting more comfortable out in public. Very positive, informative and educational session with Benjamin regarding training our 2 dogs. Their responses to training exercises was impressive and now we have to be consistent in follow-up.

We recommend these two for training. I was very nervous about leaving by 7 pound Lula with strangers for board and train but my husband and I are very happy with outcome. She is very energetic and has a sight impairment as well as being timid at times. Her training with us was not going as quickly as we wanted. We dropped her off with these fellas and three weeks later we have a baby girl who listens.
She can go to her place and be calm while others come in the house or the doors are open and activity is going on outside. She can walk without a leash and knows sit..down..crate..place and come. She knows her expectations and it makes it so much easier for her and us. The fellas took time to show us the commands and how to work with her. What is expected of us and her. She was a bit resistant during show and tell since we there. Once she realized we were not going to just pick her up things really started going well. We sent our three Goldendoodles to training with Optimal K9 Obedience and Protection this last month. We did the board and train. We have been very pleased with the results! Benjamin has been extremely communicative through the whole process. One of our doodles was extremely stubborn and was refusing to eat so we were able to come over and get her to eat while still being boarded. He really works with you and your pets! Just know you will have a job to do when they get home. Like continuing their training and going through you being their trainer. I would also recommend buying the training collars they recommend before they come home so it is a seamless transition for them and you. Overall it was a good experience our dogs don’t react to other dogs on walks anymore, they can be off leash and stay right with us, they stay in place when our front door is opened and we are bringing in groceries etc. These are just a few things that have been improved or stopped all together! I wish I could give Benjamin 50 stars instead of 5! I just want to say that this dog training program for obedience training which is what we selected is by far the best thing that has ever happened for our 1 year old dog Simba! Our trainers name is Benjamin and we have started the first session with him and we have already seen that our dog is like so calm and tamed and trainable now it just I am so astonished on how he got our Simba but in control with just ONE SESSION we will be seeing you on the next session next week and cannot wait! Optimal K9 trained our 5 month old Giant Schnauzer with their board and train program. With being a big puppy we definitely needed help setting up good obedience commands at an early age. They have been great with over communicating the process and help that they’d be able to offer him. We got Panther back yesterday and we could immediately see such great progress with listening, attentiveness, do’s & don’ts and walks. He easily got my dog to learn basic training that I have not been able to do

I was so excited to get my pup trained by this company, a young black owned company. I dropped my puppy off in good health no issue at all, we've had him a couple weeks at this point. Davion came and picked him up as planned and 2 days later he sends me this pic below (1 eye affected). I picked him up took him to the vet, they said it was nothing they can do but surgery at a later time. A couple weeks later I sent him back, 2 days later they sent me the pic below (both affected). At this point I'm confused, we kept him 2 weeks before sending him back and now he has two cherry eyes after 2 days with them. I'VE NOTICED A PATTERN NOW. I called to see what they was doing to him for it to happen. He said the type of training they use tightens the collar around the dogs neck pretty much until they stop unwanted behavior. I didn't know I was sending my dog to get abused. I no longer have my dog because of the issues they caused. Money down the drain and I had to give up my dog. I would never us them again and will now have to ask what type of training method companies use if I should ever get another dog. They did offer to start his training over, but why would i do that, even if i still had him I wouldn't. The cherry eyes were caused by them choking him to make him listen. Hello Hakenna, i am deeply sorry that you no longer have chevy…. The leash you are referring to is called a (slip lead) which is widely used on all dog training platforms. Cherry eye is super common in mastiff & corso breeds as i rememer you saying some of chevy’s littermates ended up getting it as well. We ensure that your pup was not abused at Optimal k9 & that the slip lead is a safe tool. Optimal k9 reaches out immediatly reagarding any health concerns It is on the customer to decide whether training should be stopped or resumed at a later date based on the pups health. When I first contacted Optimal K9 Dog Obedience and Training, Benjamin got back to me as soon as possible. He explained what he does and the programs provided. I went with Board and Train for two weeks. This was the best decision I’ve made especially that I am small with a large dog.
