While we did not use Don for our wedding (due to a family friend offering his business instead) I wanted to make sure I left a review on Dons customer service. He was prompt at responding and so incredibly kind. I am a very busy person and missed his texts a few times but he responded right away which was so great! Also, when I had to cancel our meeting he was professional and extended for us to reach out incase something falls through which really eased my anxiety. 5/5 Stars for wonderful communication. Our daughter’s wedding was truly amazing, and we give a huge amount of credit to Don Kirby with OnPoint Entertainment. Don was absolutely amazing to work with from start to finish. He met with my daughter and son-in-law several months before their wedding and visited the venue with them and then discussed their ideas and desires for their special day. He was responsive and really helped them figure out what would work best for their venue and provided a sound system that had perfect sound for their personal vows to the first dance and then the toast by the sweet maid of honor. Don took a ton of time to get to know them and made sure their wedding truly reflected their personal style. During the reception there were two separate situations in which unexpected incidences caused a lull in the party, BUT the lull was only a tiny pause because Don kept the party rolling with his excellent emcee skills. He was flexible and handled the challenges so well that only those of us that knew the schedule noticed the shift. My daughter was grateful for Don and his outstanding DJ competence. Easy to work with, quick set up and take down, music was a great mix for a multi generational graduation party. Don was able to take requests on the fly and make them happen. This was an outdoor event and he kept the music at the right sound level so neighbors were not disturbed. The lights he had were a nice touch dancing along the lawn and house. What’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long?
Reading the crowd is the most important part of my job and the secret to keeping a party dancing. Sometimes that means taking a risk to play something that you feel will go over great, even when a safer choice would be the easier path. Also, it's important to know the client and what their expectations are for the event.
How would you describe your ‘style’?
Every event is different and I will cater my style to that which the client needs, but my overall style could be describes as "professional, but fun".
What do you love most about your job?
There are a number of things I love most about my job. I love seeing the smiles when everyone is dancing and having a good time. I love when a familiar song comes on and everyone sings the words at the top of their lungs. Lastly, I love when I pick the perfect song and I get a thumbs up or a head nod acknowledging that I am connecting with the audience.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have been around music my whole life as a member of bands or DJing events for family and friends. Eventually, referrals led me to DJing anniversaries, birthday parties, graduation parties, dances, and weddings for others outside my immediate circle. From there, it was a logical step to offer my services as a professional.
Why should our clients choose you?
Since I am a one-man operation, I do not participate in hundreds of events every year. Because I limit the number of events I take, I feel I can provide personalized service and attention that other companies can't provide.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
I have implemented the following changes: 1. Disposal covers for mics to be used during toasts and speeches. 2. A web-based tool that allows guests to make song requests without approaching the DJ. 3. Hand-sanitizer near the DJ booth so people can keep on dancing, but stay safe.
