Ohana Seafood Bar & Grill

When we arrived the restaurant was quiet, nice, and relaxing. However, after about 15 minutes, the live music started up and it was loud as can be. Our waiter could hardly hear us let alone could we have conversations amongst our table. I ordered a sprite, but never received it even asking the waiter 2 more times for it. The poke ahi tuna bowl was the worst I've had in Maui by far. The tuna was extremely fishy tasting, fatty, and chewy. Don't be fooled...this is a tourist trap. But before I get started...They have a huge sign that says "Best Calamari in Maui" That is a huge lie. The Calamari was soaked in oil, hurried in pointless toppings. This place left mine and my kids' mouths tasting like straight up garbage. The strawberry lemonade for one, was very very watery. Although they had a good deal since we came during happy hour, the drinks were diluted and tasteless. The pull pork tacos were horrid with this disgusting moldy tasting sauce on top. Don't even get me started with the sushi...The Ahi was cut in multiple pieces, not prepared properly. The rice was way too thick, you're better off getting a California Roll. The HuliHuli Chicken was not authentic at all you're also better off getting it from a food truck. All in all, the servers are snappy and I should've known from the beginning that the place was not good when we first sat down. We were cruising the blvd looking for a place to eat and the Ohana Grill caught our eye. Good eyes, the pork tacos were very good but the huli huli chicken was the most excellent of Ono Grindz. The veal demi -glace was the epitome of a special taste that I have never tasted before but fell in lust for since then. We stumbled upon Ohana on our visit to Kihei and liked it a lot.  We ordered the Dynamic Poke and the Hawaiian Burger.  The burger was big and absolutely delicious.  The Poke the same.  We were there during Happy Hour and some drinks too.  Sitting outside on the front porch area was nice.  Our server, Tyler, was a cool dude who related to us, as I bet he does with others.  We are really glad we stopped in! I wish we discovered this place sooner! Ohana's Seafood Bar & Grill easily became my favorite restaurant in Maui. Besides the mouth watering food, unique menu, and cute ambiance, the service gave this place a serious Ohana feel. Not only did Amanda took excellent care of us and was knowledgeable about the menu, she really made me feel at home and was an amazing conversationalist. This was such a disappointing meal as the vibe from the street was inviting and the hostess was on her A game this busy night. My daughter had the Huli chicken and I had the fish tacos. Our waiter was awful. He stopped by our table and said he would be right back when we were seated. He returned 20 minutes later to finally take our orders apologizing that he was the only one working. He took our order and our drink orders and said service would be quick because orders went straight to the bar and kitchen . We watched the bartender quickly make our drinks and sit them on the bar, and then we watched the ice melt as they sat for 15 minutes. Our pork roll appetizers were delivered quickly. But the drinks were watered down and when our waiter delivered to us he complained about the slow bartender. After another 25 minutes our food finally came but alas, they brought my daughter the wrong order. We sent it back but then did finally  stop our waiter after 20 minutes as he flew by and asked where her food was. He said the kitchen staff  were slow and confused and he'd go check. I think if he'd stop drinking at the bar and focus on his job things might have turned out better. He finally brought her meal but she had lost her appetite and we left after we paid. I'm not sure where to begin, I guess I'll start with the positive, Antonio our waiter.  Antonio was great, prompt very polite and accommodated a couple changes to the menu without hesitation.  As for the food I have to truly wonder if the chef and owners have lost their passion for food. My wife and I ordered the catch of the day which was completely over cooked and very dry.  The weird part was that despite the menu having no indication whatsoever of it being served over pasta or risotto it did which sounded good however it was covered with what I can only describe as 7-11 cheese that you'd put on their chili and cheese nachos, no really I'm not kidding.  This was the weirdest and worst meal I've probably ever eaten.  On top of the weirdness and pretty terrible flavor was the portion size.  The fish should be the star of the dish right, we'll the fish was about the size of the palm of my hand or a little bigger, my wife's was considerably bigger but the issues was the four cups of 7-11 cheesy slop with veggies that likely came out of a frozen bag.  Oh and along with one Coke and a $5 Mai Tai this meal came to $83 before tips, pathetic.   Only wish I would have taken a picture before we at the fish and left the rest. Decent food but TERRIBLE service. Went for dinner or a quick bite a few times. Every visit was worse than the last. Finally walked out after waiting more than 45 minutes for a second round of drinks. Our server "antonio" was basically useless. Didnt check on us or let us know the status of our order. Just sat on a stool by the bar. That was the second time around with him. This place is a solid 3.  Not bad, not great....just somewhere in the middle!Came because of the "Best Calamari In Maui" sign. ..but that was a bit of a stretch.  While it wasn't bad, we wouldn't order it again.  Unfortunately it was more breading than squid and it just tasted like fried "something" with a sweet sauce on it.  The Mai Tai wasn't the worst I've had, but it definitely wasn't the best.  It was all just "meh."  Pros:  We enjoyed the sidewalk countertop seating.  Great for people watching and fresh air!  The server was friendly!  I'm not opposed to going back and trying something else, but I wouldn't go out of my way. We visited this place during our vacation to Maui back in June, and 10 months later I am STILL daydreaming about this Seafood Pasta! Busy little street side restaurant with live music, but we were seated fairly quickly outside. Weather was great, light breeze, good tunes, and good fast service. The drinks were strong, the poké was so fresh, and our entrees were incredible. I cannot stop raving about this creamy, fresh, flavorful pasta! Last day on the island and we stopped for an early dinner on the way to the airport. Situated right next door to our favorite breakfast spot. The Early Happy Hour offers great drink specials, and a laid back way to finish off the Trip. We enjoyed the infamous calamari. Chicken club sandwich and hubby and I shared the Huli Huli chicken. We stopped here for lunch and ordered the Fish & Chips, they were absolutely amazing ! normally the fries aren't the best when you order fish & chips but these ones were! Terrible service and average food in a great location. My wife and I picked this because of the location, reviews, and menu options, but it felt like a Hawaiian dive bar. The waitress messed up our order, getting silverware for appetizers was difficult and plates weren't even an option. The grease smell the further you went in was intense. Visited this spot on a Sunday evening. The happy hour is excellent - $5 cocktails and $3 beers from 10 am to 6 pm!! Our waiter was so kind and made sure we still got the happy hour deal even when we ordered at 5:59 PM. We sat outside and live music started around 6:30/7 which was wonderful. They did cover songs and took requests. The food was delicious. We got the calamari, the coconut shrimp, the fish of the day with risotto, and the kalua pulled pork sandwich with fries. Live music outside lures you in but disappointment awaits when you find there are no seats & a long wait time & rude hostess and manager. On our Fourth visit (attempting to get in), we checked in & told the bar was full too.  After 20 minutes, my husband spied two gentlemen leaving the bar & got us the seats. "Yay!" The hostess confronted him & accused him of stealing the seats from the patrons (untrue & verified with her by the men leaving). So we sat & an awesome bartender gave us our drinks, the music played, we ordered food. After almost an hour, getting comfy, then the hostess asked us to move to make room for more customers. When I said , "no, we're ok." The manager shows up & tells us to move. I start explaining, "When we arrived, the hostess treated my husband ....." then the manager interrupts me and says, " we need you to move!" I replied, "Pick up our bill, and we'll leave," He said, "Done!" We left. There's a def local tribe vibe there. Lots of rules about no standing at the bar, social-distancing, yet a local woman showed up and was standing right up against my back for 20 minutes and hostess said nothing to her (bartender did, but he was super busy).  She still didnt move. Lots of friendly accommodation for people "they" know. All the manager had to do was acknowledge that we were not treated well & we would have moved. But rude on rude behavior has no place in business. Not sure if its cuz we were brown people? Group that replaced us were blonde & blue-eyed. We won't ever go back.Got back to condo & met 3 women in parking lot who had just come from Ohanas. They were kicked off property for dancing on the sidewalk. No Aloha vibe at Ohanas Seafood unless you are part of their "Ohana"....whatever that means to them. More...

The Ohana Seafood Bar & Grill hosted our daughter's wedding reception in October 2021.   They communicated with her by phone for several months before the event. They were EXTREMELY helpful prior to and during her reception. They were friendly and attentive to her needs during the event. They made sure the band was wonderful and the food was great.   We were all able to relax and thoroughly enjoy the evening. I highly recommend them for hosting events. More...
