Off Leash K-9 has made a world of difference for me. Kaitlyn took my crazy dog and turned her into a dog that is a joy to walk and take along on trips. The procedure is very humane and it takes no time now for me to correct a behavior. My Vegas is happier now too, no more yelling or chasing the dogs down the road. Hands down the best decision I’ve ever made. I did the 2 week board & train program. I was a little nervous about being away from my dog for that long but my trainer sent me updates every single day. She kept me up to date on my dog’s progress and even sent pictures and videos. My dog had so much fun! Our dog is currently participating in the 8 week obedience sessions. We started the program because our dog had become aggressive toward strangers and other animals. We did the 2 week board and train. Our GSP was out of control and now he is amazing. Seeing is believing. If you want a dog that is respectful, able to control this is the place to go. We have now had two of our dogs go through training with Crystal and her very professional trainers at OLK9 Blacksburg/Roanoke. We got our first little guy from a medical foster program and because of his history we had tons of questions and concerns. Crystal was extremely patient with my questions and very thorough in her answers. We did the regular training classes and enjoyed being a part of the learning process with out pup.About a year after our first, we adopted a hound-mix that had been homed a couple times but returned to the foster program because of... well, being a hound with high energy and was a little distractable . Milo was a sweet dog, but difficult to take places because he was all over the place. He jumped on people and was impossible to walk, particularly if there were people or other dogs around. We have kids that play ball and wanted to take him to the fields but he was such a pain to deal with. Two weeks of K9 Off leash and he's a different dog! He's still our wild fun pup when he's not on command, but he immediately falls in line and is so much fun to take places now! People comment on how well behaved he is! When we first got Nora she was a bit hard to contain, every time she got a chance to get out the door without a leash she was immediately gone as fast as she could run and we would either have to wait a few hours for her to come home or try to track her down and lure her to us with treats but more often than not she just thought that was a game and ran by us and took off again. Going out without a leash was simply not an option.After one lesson we were able to take her out without a leash and she would still test us a bit, but very quickly learned how far away we were comfortable with and we always felt like there was no danger of her running off and potentially getting hurt.After 4 lessons and some practice we no longer have to worry at all and she is so much happier not having to be on a leash and being free to run around and explore. And when we need her to come or sit still for any reason she doesn't hesitate. We are much more relaxed and don't have to worry about her and can enjoy our time outside or walking much more too.Casey did a great job and we couldn't be happier with him or the company. More...

Katlin Coffey did an amazing job training our Great Dane Pittie mix. Our very large 8 month old puppy was so hard to handle before training. He’s now a different dog! He actually stays in place when in command! We take him for walks without him pulling and into any animal friendly store! Instead of dreading outings, we now take him everywhere! Our pup is naturally nervous and cautious of strangers, but he took to Katlin immediately. Even after his board and train program was complete, Katlin is wonderful to answer questions and provide much needed advice! She helps us understand how to communicate with Flint and provide him with the best off leash life! I highly recommend this program! Our puppy Bailey is 8 months old, he just finished the 2 week board and train. Before the train he was all over the place, jumping on people, never comes to ya, no listening. Barked at people and animals. We do a lot of camping and was wanting to take him but knew that was impossible since he had no structure at all. We put him threw the 2 week board and train and he is a totally different puppy. We use to go walking with him on leash and everytime he seen a animal or human he would bark and try to run. Now we can walk around neighborhood with him not on a leash and he will stay right beside my left leg, if any kind of distraction appears he keeps walking and pays no attention. If he tries to jump on people it’s a one word command and he stops. I can place him anywhere and he will set there till I release him. My trainer told me we had a different dog then most he was so terrified of everything and she would have to take a different approach with him and he challenged her with lots of stuff. She never gave up and she showed him who was the boss and who was the student. I tried to work with him on my own but gave up I had no patience with him nor the time that it would take I honestly thought I would get a call from the trainer saying he can’t be trained. We have two rescues who have been through training at OLK9 Blacksburg. Our son's small Lab mix (Onyx) was a medical rescue who spent most of his puppy life in a crate. My son did the individual classes with Onyx and had great results. We chose to do the board and train for our adopted hound mix, Red. Red had been rehomed twice before we got him because of his energy and distractability - Crystal's team worked miracles with Red and the result was a fun hound that would actually listen and obey commands but could enjoy his freedom without worrying about him not returning when called. We worked with Xandria Pitts in Lynchburg to learn how to use the e-collar to help train our lively, bossy, and fearful young Australian Shepherd. Xandria can read his mind & she must speak Aussie, because he adores her & does everything she asks of him.We use the e-collar as a bark collar when he goes out into his yard. I’m sure neighbors appreciate his improving manners.It helps us remind him of house manners: no counter surfing, quiet down & place when he gets too excited by squirrels at bird feeders, etc.The collar & our training give us an extra level of security when we go to the park or other public places.We try to stay at a distance from other dogs while Rascal gets used to seeing them and learns to be less excited about them. The e-collar gives me an extra level of control. Of course there are some owners who bring their dogs right up to us, or the few who see no reason to obey leash laws.Rascal loves to play with other dogs, but we introduce them slowly, and never on leash. Dogs in a leash tangle is not a good idea.Xandria is the person who told us to fence walk dogs several times, until they know that they are good buddies. In past few months, I've done several lessons as well as the board and train with Sam. Had it not been for seeing the trainers out working dogs in public, it really would have been hard to believe the results. Leading up to the training and during communication was great. Sam spent a lot of time discussing my expectations and exceeded them all throughout the process. After training, I still received routine checks, advise, and follow-ups. Two months out, I'm still very pleased with the training and where our dog is today. We have had the opportunity to work with OLK9 Blacksburg/Roanoke twice - once with my son's Lab mix, Onyx who did the obedience package and our new hound mix, Red who just completed the two-week board and train. Both dogs are rescues from the Animal Welfare Foster Program in Blacksburg. The two dog have completely different (polar opposite) dispositions and their unique needs (as well as the owner's) were definitely addressed in the training with OLK9.Our first alum, Onyx went through through the 8 lesson obedience program in Blacksburg with our son who is a VT student. Onyx was a medical rescue and spent much of his early life in a shelter. The program gave Onyx confidence but, just as importantly, our son learned how to be a confident dog owner - together, they learned to trust each other. Now, Onyx accompanies our son all over town and campus.Our most recent graduate, Red was also a rescue but his story was different. He was found as a profoundly-underweight stray. We adopted him after he had spent just over6 months in foster. Red is EXTREMELY energetic and easily distracted. He has a great overall disposition but he was in need of professional training. We enrolled him in the board and train program and couldn't be happier with dog we picked up two weeks later. His trainer, Blair sent us updates daily along with pictures and videos. She molded our off-the-wall hound dog into a fun but very obedient guy. He graduated being able to hit all the skills on the curriculum.
