Skip did our 25th Wedding Anniversary party, and he was amazing!!! He took the time to chat with me on the phone about everything, and even offered to meet in person if we wanted to. He made sure to thoroughly explain his questionnaire, as well as make note regarding any type of music or artist we didn't want played. Once I returned the questionnaire, he right away contacted me for a few clarifications. Skip was so on top of it!! Very professional!! When we arrived, he was all set up and ready to go. Skip & Laurie were very friendly and professional from the beginning. We hired them because they were cheaper and had a nice add on package for a video. They recorded our ceremony, and our reception. It was so nice to go back and rewatch our special day! Skip will go over the top for you. You can email him a question at any time and he will usually reply pretty fast. My husband even called him a few times randomly and he answered. Skip will also get out on the dance floor with you! 😁 We had a lot of fun and would hire again! Northern Lights Entertainment went above and beyond to be there for us on our wedding day. They showed up early to set up audio for our ceremony, discussed details with the appropriate individuals, and helped MC the reception like the seasoned pros they are. We were able to meet Skip and Laurie for a brunch a few weeks or so before our big day to get introduced and review important details. This included our wants and not wants, their restrictions (profane music in family settings), and our schedule for the wedding. Meeting up with them before really helped us feel comfortable. It gave us peace of mind knowing our DJ/MC was very aware of what we wanted for the day, as well as when and where they were needed at all times throughout the day. On the day of our wedding, after showing up early to set up and get a lay of our venue, we were again comforted as I (the groom) was able to see everything they got ready for the evening well before we even got things going. The ceremony went by without any hiccups to audio, and after my beautiful bride and I walked down the aisle as a married couple, Skip played us out and instructed everyone there when and how to exit - as well as where to go for cocktail hour etc. Our intro in to the reception was fairly seamless. We had an issue where my bride's dress shoulder strap broke when I hugged her during our grand entrance. Skip saw us signal there was an issue as we walked out to get it handled, and he very smoothly transitioned in to a period of music while letting everyone know there was a slight wardrobe malfunction. We returned and he was right back in to it without missing a beat. It should be noted as well that our reception was a traditional Indian celebration which he was able to MC just as easily as any traditional western reception. Throughout the evening Skip was able to roll with the slight changes, issues, and overall flow of the night. We had a great time with our guests until we had to leave, and Northern Lights Entertainment provided a great atmosphere for the rest of the evening. We are incredibly grateful to Skip and Laurie and the DJ/MC services they provided us. We would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a professional, experienced, and family friendly DJ/MC. Skip and Laurie are so easy going and professional. Having them to talk to and bounce ideas off of was helpful! The flexibility and wisdom they have when it comes to weddings made our day smooth and enjoyable. Everyone wanted to know who our dj was and why he was the first onto the dance floor. Skip’s moves definitely encouraged our guests to get up and groove. Laurie behind the camera was awesome! She got all the best moments. Skip and Laurie are the sweetest people you were ever met! We originally had a different DJ, but the cancelled on us 2 months ish before it’s wedding. I found Skip on wedding wire and my now husband and I met him and his wife for lunch to sit down and talk about pricing and what they had to offer. I am so grateful he had our date open! I was the most indecisive bride and he worked so well with me! Skip also helped me out with the time lining of my ceremony, because I had no idea what I was doing. Skip and Laurie were so excellent and helpful! They not only kept the party going, but they helped me plan my timeline. Skip always responded to emails within 30 minutes or less (more like 10 mins if we are being honest). He provides an extensive survey, so you can be very clear with what you want. Norhtern Lights Entertainment provides different packages, so you can get what you want even if you are on a budget. A separate videographer was not in the cards for us and Northern Lights offered us an affordable video option. Guest shared that they had fun, there was lots of dancing, and they did a great job keeping dinner moving. Little Tip: Be open to playing songs that may be on your do not play list! Skip was the DJ for our wedding on Macinaw Island. My wife (Brittany) had changed songs for the ceremony as well as the reception, many times and Skip was always understanding and a joy to work with. When were getting ready for our grand entrance to the reception, Skip quickly reviewed the plan for the evening and when songs were to be played. Brittany modified some items from what Skip had documented and he changed them willingly and said “hey, I said you could make changes day of, no worries, I got it!”. We had a wonderful experience with Northern Lights Entertainment. They were able to do both our ceremony and reception which was very helpful. They sat down with us well before our wedding and gave us suggestions but were also super open to what we wanted to do. We had and outdoor ceremony and their services helped our guest to hear the ceremony better. They also provided music for the ceremony and helped my bridal party know when to start. The reception ran so smoothly because of their services. There were parts of the reception I didn’t know what songs to pick and they recommended some choices and they were exactly what we needed!! They also suggested how to do all the fun things (first dance, father/daughter dance, cake cutting) that weddings have but smoothly so we could get those important things out of the way and have fun dancing the rest of the night! Just when we thought they couldn’t possibly be anymore helpful Skip happened to be walking by when we were filling out our marriage license and helped us correctly fill it out (we definitely would have done it wrong!) Skip was amazing to work with. He answered any questions I had throughout the planning process quickly and kindly (and I had a lot of questions). He and Laurie met us for breakfast to discuss everything before our wedding day and helped coordinate our rehearsal. Skip kept us on track on the wedding day as well. As a DJ, man was he incredible! How would you describe your ‘style’?
Energetic and fun. I love to get down with the guests and show them how to do the line dances if they need assistance.
What do you love most about your job?
I love taking care of my couples and making their day as special and unforgettable as possible. Nothing will last longer than the memories I help them create.
What inspired you to start your own business?
My own wedding. I planned and coordinated the entire thing, including all the music arrangement. My new wife told me I should do the same for others as a DJ, wedding planner, and coordinator. Our business was born.
Why should our clients choose you?
We offer the BEST DJ services and quality of DJ at a reasonable rate. We started as a budget-friendly DJ business and try to stay in the middle of the pack for rates, comparable to other DJs in our market with similar reviews.

Yes. We love to meet in person, but we can also meet via Zoom. We do often with destination weddings, like Traverse City or Mackinac Island. All correspondence is done via email.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We have mic covers, if such is desired. We also sanitize our microphones after every use.
DJ Services
Full DJ and emcee service. Sound, wireless, mics, 50 million licensed music tracks in all languages and eras, announcements, full ceremony and reception coordination. We provide an additional speaker, mics and setup for ceremony service.
Dance Floor Lighting
Dance floor light show combining 16 different light for a fantastic dance experience.
Basic Video
Full video recording of entire ceremony and important parts of the reception. We use the best Sony Handycam on the market, as well as a transmitter / receiver for the ceremony sound. We provide entire raw footage to you on a flash drive to use as you wish. We charge a fraction (10-15%) of the average going rate for a videographer.
Slideshows
DJ Skip is a former IT tech and can put together a PowerPoint slideshow to play during your reception.
Uplighting
We have multi-color room uplighting to enhance your reception area. Use your wedding colors or switch between multiple colors.
Photo Booth
Selfie stand to be used by your guests and yourselves. All pics can be sent to you for memories for years to come.
Instant Camera
Rent our Fuji Instax Mini 11 instant camera for use by your guests. We can also provide the film, based on your needs. This is a popular add-on for using with your guest book. Your guests take a polaroid selfie and attach in the guestbook next to their congratulations to you.
Ordained Minister Officiating
DJ Skip is also an ordained minister through American Marriage Ministries (non-denominational) and can perform your ceremony and take care of your marriage license afterwards.
