We had the pleasure of meeting Jon for our 8 month old German shepherd/ Husky mix. He helped us keep our pup calm when the doorbell rang or door was knocked, which usually makes him go crazy! He also usually pulls so much when walking with his leash on, but within 10 minutes Jon taught us how to work with a reward system and our puppy no longer pulls on the leash!! Thank you Jon, we will definitely need you for our second puppy soon!! Amazing trainer, if I could give 10 stars I would! More...

John W. is outstanding in his speciality. True to his words, he has a non-punitive approach which worked very well with our dog--which we adopted 8 months ago at seven years old. She took to John immediately and John noted several things about her from the get-go which helped us to understand her much better. John is not a clock watcher either as he gave us more than the hour we reserved. He left us with easy to do training methods to alter our dog's behavior so that her life is happier and less stressed. If needed we'll have John come around again though it appears he was thorough in his work with us and that might not be needed :) More...

My husband and I feel much better on how to communicate with our dog what we want him to do and when instead of letting him run the show (more so with me cause he's so cute and it's hard for me to not give him lots of love all the time.) :) Just after the initial in-home consultation i'm seeing results and I'm extremely satisfied. John was very patient with us and our dog Apollo. We contacted him due to Apollo's severe anxiety. He would not let us approach him outside, would not come inside easily, and has had to be on a leash for the past 2 weeks at all times in the event he darts out of the door and won't come in. We rescued Apollo 4 years ago and his improvement since then has been minimal. We knew we needed outside help and contacted John due to his positive reinforcement approach. He gave us a lot of insight and tips to help Apollo break out of his shell. He also had our dog more comfortable with him then I thought he would be. We would highly recommend John for his love towards animals and their caretakers. His patience and understanding are very much appreciated and we would recommend him to anyone looking for a dog behaviorist to help their beloved K9. We have a 3 year old German Shepherd mix named Cleo. We adopted her in September of 2015. When we brought her home she and our family dog Angel (a 14 year old lab mix) didn't get along too well. Cleo figured out real quick who was the boss and it was not her. However, whenever around another dog she gets very anxious and became known to us (through experience) that she is very dog aggressive (small/big). We spent almost $200++ on a trainer (not Jon) for aggression, which didn't do anything. She had also been to a training class for basic training and jumping up on people when you greeted her. This is where we noticed the aggression got worst working in a group session.
After just one visit from Jon, we saw major improvements on aggression towards other dogs, by introducing her to one of our neighbors 2 labs. He observed Cleo’s behavior, developed a plan, worked with her. It became necessary to have an idea to deal with the aggression because we had family visiting and was bringing their big dog. The only issue now is she still has her aggression to small dogs and is very prey driven, however we can’t keep spending hundreds of dollars on this. She now wears a muzzle most times going out because she is unpredictable on walks.
She is a very sweet caring dog, loves turning over on her back and giving kisses, a very people friendly dog. Jon is very caring and understood exactly what we were dealing with. I would recommended him to anyone with a dog issue.

He spent time getting to know us and our interactions w Freeway, discussed our situation and solutions and showed us how to control her leash behavior. Several small changes, i.e., NOT using retractable leash, and lavish praise for good behavior, have led to amazing results. She is prancing by our side and seems much happier. We feel we were good caregivers - we are now heading towards 'Great ' caregivers. We are working on the aggression issues, it will take time, but thanks to Jon, we are confident this wll improve ! John was absolutely fanastic with my Rescue boy, Gouda. I’ve been spending a lot of time and money worrying about his separation anxiety (non destructive- all he would do is howl - but being as I live in an apartment, I couldn’t have him crying nonstop). He came in, basically identified one of two scenarios as to why he may have become the way he was (desiring human attention) and he pointed me to different exercises to use to desensitize him to my leaving. After trying a few different things, we found one that worked and he hasn’t howled since he’s been gone. Who would’ve known a TV on made all the difference? On top of that, he was so understanding and kind about my situation and really does care about both the people and animals. He is phenomenal and I highly recommend him for any level of dog behavioral issue! More...

Zelig has a marvelous temperament, is really intuitive and smart, adds a spark of life to whoever he meets, and is just adorable. We had the privilege of having John work with our 3 year-old pit mix, George. George is an intelligent and well-mannered dog, but when it comes to walking on the leash out in public, or guests coming over, his excitement takes over and has no control.

John was incredibly punctual (10 minutes early), and had a warm personality. Immediately upon arrival he greeted George and calmed him down very quickly. We talked through our challenging points, and realized just how wrong we were in responding to specific behaviors, some we were even exacerbating. We then walked George with John by his side, showing us the benefits of positive reinforcement.

Off this one session alone we are very pleased with the results we've seen. John armed us with the knowledge and techniques needed to keep consistent in changing behaviors, and we would recommend him to any dog owner, period.

By the end of the session, he was already walking better on the leash. It will take practice to make it perfect, but this was the best thing I've spent money on in a long time!

Q&As

Simple... I love working with and helping dogs... I love making a difference in the human-canine relationship and keeping families together and helping teach caretakers WHY their dogs are behaving the way they are, teaching them to THINK like a dog, giving them a new way of looking at their canine companions, as well as teaching them proper training/handling techniques that will treat their pet dog's issues.

I have always deeply loved dogs, more so than people I think. Ever since I got my first puppy as a young boy, I have always had a very strong connection and bond with dogs and I have just understood them. I get dogs, and I have always been able to read them, and communicate back to them very clearly and effortlessly without saying a word, just body language and a touch. I love working with dogs and helping resolve their behavioral issues. This enhances the quality of life not only for the dog, but for the entire family unit!

I have been trained in, and practice only Positive Reinforcement (+R) and Force-Free (FF) methods in working with all my dogs.

There is never any need to yell, scold, intimidate or otherwise destroy the human-canine bond between you and your pet! Anyone who yells and screams at a dog, or advocates or practices using these methods of communicating and interacting with a dog, really knows nothing about dogs, or is just lazy, and should be avoided at all costs, for the sake of the dog.

Positive-Only methods involve building a lasting, lifetime relationship of trust between the human and dog, it means making it fun for the dog to learn and do what it is asked to do. This is accomplished by teaching the dog to ‘WORK” for a reward, which is either a treat, a favorite toy, or simply playing with you! Dogs see any type of attention, affection, activity or treat as a reward for a job done. It is much easier and repeatable to train a dog using positive-only methods than by the old methods, because the dogs enjoy doing the task and will respond willingly and much more reliably to their training.

Services

To determine the root cause of your dog(s) problematic behavior(s) we will set up an initial consultation, where we examine the details of the problem behavior(s), work with you and your dog(s) to see where we can get with the first visit and determine the need for follow-ups. During the consult I develop a treatment plan for you to follow with your dog(s) at home to help redirect, control or extinguish the unwanted behavior.

If we determine at the initial consult that your pet dog will need more than three sessions, we will take the initial consult charge and roll it into a package of 2 to 5 sessions. This enables us to really focus on working specific areas until we have a positive change in behavior and this also allows you to get a much deeper education and training on your dogs specific behavioral issues.

45min or 1hr. Phone Consult with complete evaluation and custom treatment plan.

Pick what time is best and book your Zoom Consult from anywhere! We cover all aspects of understanding and working on: Reactivity, Aggression, Anxiety, Barking, Biting, Fearfulness, Guarding, Jumping, Pulling, House-Training, Recall and any other Issues...
