Noah is amazing with our poodle. He provides outstanding training and boarding services. His property is unbelievable and our dog loves staying with him while we are away. Noah sends text updates, pictures and video and always responds timely. We have not had confidence with other boarding facilities in the past, but with Noah, we have complete trust and confidence that our dog is being taken care of by a true professional. We highly recommend Noah for training and boarding. More...

Dog Training

As first time dog owners, but big animal lovers, we really seriously underestimated what goes into owning and training a pooch. We had a cat for 16 years and after she passed we decided on getting a dog, which was something we’d discussed for years. We thought it would be easy, and the dog would ‘just know’ how to behave. That’s absolutely not the case. Quickly we realized we needed help. I found Noah Robertson in Bark and he has been our source of training, but also on raising a young puppy to be a healthy and responsible member of the family. We started lessons once a week with Noah, but again we thought Butch would pick things up easily, and we just had to do the once a week lesson, again, it doesn’t work like that. We needed to put in the effort all the time. So after some very stressed weeks Noah suggested a board and train, and I can’t tell you how valuable that has been, we’d still see our pooch, but we’d go to Noah once a week while he was training Butch and turning him into the dog we wanted him to be, meanwhile he’s teaching us about food, an animals mentality, giving us advice on chews, toys, enrichment training, what’s acceptable and what’s not. All the things we need to be responsible and well adjusted pet owners. The difference in both Butch and us is amazing. I’m excited to see to dog Butch grows up to be, and it’s testament to Noah’s patience with not only Butch, but with us too. Thank you Noah! More...

Noah has been our trainer for going on 4 months now and he is absolutely amazing! We have a sassy 7-year-old pup and we adopted a 5-year-old pup this summer. Noah assisted us in confidence-building for our new pup, teaching us skills to help our 7-year-old pup not be territorial and acclimate to having a little brother, and so much more. Through just 4 short months of training, we have seen HUGE improvements in both of our dogs. Their confidence is better, they are treat and toy motivated for the first time, the pups relationship is stronger and we as humans have a stronger relationship with our pups. If you are looking for a trainer who is dedicated, genuine, efficient, and full of brilliant ideas, Noah is your person! We cannot recommend him enough and are eager to continue working with him. I'm so glad we found Noah to help us with behavioral concerns for both our dogs! We drive almost 2 hours to train with Noah and it is worth it every time. We are really starting to see positive change with our dog-reactive Lola after feeling like she was hopeless. And thanks to Noah, our other dog Zoey is learning how to be less reactive towards our neighbors. Noah is incredibly knowledgeable and can finesse and fine-tune training/methods to fit my and my dogs' needs, but he explains everything in very easy to understand ways. He is also just a joy to train with - we all have a great time working with him! We feel so fortunate to have connected with Noah and would recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat. More...

We adopted a young shepherd mix who is high energy and super smart. I quickly realized I was in over my head and that it would be better to seek help training her before she started to develop bad habits.
I am so glad I reached out to Noah! We have been working together for several months now (once a week) and I have come so far in understanding how to communicate with my dogs. They seem happier and we are happier too! Noah is a very patient teacher and also breaks down information into easier to understand parts. He adapts our training based on what is going on with the dogs and we are able to address issues before they become big problems. I highly recommend his dog training!

We got our goldendoodle puppy (Triscuit) right before covid and before a new foster baby arrived. Both were unexpected events and all my plans to train our little pup went out the window. A year and a half later Triscuit was 50 pounds of energy and still completely untrained and unsocialized. Although she was great with our house full of kids and we adored her, her behavior was becoming challenging. She pulled horribly on her leash and it was impossible to walk her with my stroller and my other kiddos. Calming her down when guests came over was almost impossible and getting her to follow commands in our loud and chaotic house was a struggle. I felt really guilty because I knew she wasn't getting the exercise and socializing that she deserved. I finally decided to get professional help and found Noah through our neighborhood Facebook page. He did a thorough phone consultation and then came to meet Triscuit. We decided to do a two week board and train. Noah sent pictures and updates and met with us for a training session before Triscuit came home. We went over commands and how to walk her and he told us all the things she could do now. I had a hard time believing it! But then after she came home, he showed us all her new skills and it was AMAZING. She was still our goofy pup but she knew how to heel, sit, stay, come when called, and more. Walking her became a total delight! Noah even practiced using a stroller during her training to get her accustomed to heeling with it. My neighbors even noticed how well behaved she suddenly was! And Triscuit is happier now that she is getting lots of exercise and positive attention. Triscuit LOVES Noah and has gone back for weekend boarding and he's even borrowed her for playdates with other dogs he is training since her personality is so friendly and unaggressive. We are so happy we met Noah and recommend his training to anyone who will listen! More...

Noah was great to work with and our puppy loves him!! He was responsive, explained everything in detail, kept us updated with Aspen’s training plan, provided follow-up training so that Aspen and we can communicate well and be successful with what she learned. We even used Noah for boarding. He is great to work with. Aspen is still doing great. I can still reach out to Noah when I have questions and he is always willing to help. You can tell how much he loves dogs. More...

Q&As

I love getting to see the progress from both the human and dog side. Confidence, communication, behavior, and relationship are all improved by training. When I work with a family and we, as a team, identify and work through the issues they are having, the results can be amazing and everybody's eyes can be opened to positive experiences that they didn't think would ever be possible with their dog. It's extremely rewarding and also keeps me excited about doing new and fun things with my dog.

Dog Training is a very diverse profession, and every trainer has their own specific combination of traits, styles, methods, interests, etc. I worked at other dog care and dog training facilities and felt that I wasn't able to do (at least in my mind) the best training for the situation, I was forced to follow somebody else's pre-made plan. Having my own business allows me to do training the way that makes sense to me, and the only limit to what I can do is what I can learn.

I will work very hard for your specific situation and will personalize the training to your exact desires and needs. I focus a lot on things you want to do with your dog and working to make those things possible. My formal education in dog training gives me the knowledge in behavior and learning theory to explain exactly why we will do the things we do which can give you the peace of mind that we will be training your dog in ways that work and not in ways that are just "how things have always been done"

I provide some services remotely via Zoom or Facetime. This includes Consultations and some Private Training. I hesitate to have a 100% online relationship with a dog training client because it prevents the physical communication that is so important to dogs. However, for certain circumstances, and with other species, online can work very well, or even be combined with in person training.

I am fully vaxxed and boosted, and I request that my in person customers are as well. If they cannot/will not we will all wear masks and distance appropriately at all times. I also encourage outdoor training when possible.

Services

A consultation is the prerequisite for either Private Lessons or a Board and Train Program. You and your family would talk with Noah about your dog, home, life, schedule, current issues, goals, and more and would work together to decide what kind of training and/or care would be best for your specific situation. If you choose to pursue training, Noah would then use the information to create a customized training plan and set of resources for you and your pet.

Questions about getting a new pet(domestic or exotic), requests for resources on your animals, discussions of how to care for your current or future animals also fall under this category.

Consultations are a flat fee of $100 and usually last about an hour.

Private training involves the pet and family working one on one with Noah. This could be in your house, at the Highpoint property, or out in the world, depending on what you would be working on. Private training includes follow-up emails and support, as well as custom resources and training plans. The most common schedule for training is to meet for two hours once a week, though meeting more frequently may be better in the case of a puppy or particularly difficult issue (intense fear, aggression, escape problems, etc.).

For other types of animals (cats, small animals, exotics), you would always meet in your own home, but the training time, resources, and support would be the same.

Private Training can be purchased in packages of 6, 8, or 10 sessions and are priced to reflect 2 hours per session. You can also choose not to purchase a package and instead pay the hourly rate at the end of each session.

One Dog Per Hour – $100 | 6 Sessions – $1,140 | 8 Sessions – $1,480 | 10 Sessions – $1,800

Two Dogs Per Hour – $150 | 6 Sessions – $1,740 | 8 Sessions – $2,280 | 10 Sessions – $2,800

Highpoint Dog Training has a wonderful property in Elgin, IL with accommodations for boarding and a dedicated indoor training space. A Board and Train involves your dog or dogs coming to stay at the HPDT facility for a number of weeks (minimum two). As with Private Lessons, there will be a custom training plan created after the Consultation which acts as the guide for the work that will be done. Unlike Private Lessons, during a Board and Train Noah will be the person working with the dog daily; teaching, practicing, and applying new skills. The training would then be transferred back to the owner(s) and the home with lessons both during and after the dog’s stay. Four lessons are included in the price of the Board and Train, though additional lessons may be necessary based on the difficulty level of the training, the time you have to practice the training, and the severity of the issues in the home. The benefits of this program include expert hands-on instruction for your dog, consistency in the training, faster development of new skills, more time spent practicing, and a positive separation experience for both the owner and the dog.

Board and Train Programs are offered for a minimum of two weeks. Dogs receive daily training, exercise, meals, and enrichment, and regular updates will be provided to the owner(s) via text.

One Dog 2 Weeks – $2,000 | 3 Weeks $2,800 | 4 Weeks $3,500

Two Dogs 2 Weeks – $3,000 | 3 Weeks $4,200 | 4 Weeks $5,250

The Highpoint property has indoor and outdoor spaces dedicated for caring for a small number of dogs with the highest amount of personal attention. Noah’s home is on the property and right across the driveway from the “Guest House” where the dogs stay. Noah will be the only person entering the kennel space and handling the dogs and so you can be sure they will receive thoughtful care and be safe. In addition to a dedicated building for housing dogs, which is climate controlled and secure, there is a large converted dairy barn for indoor exercise. The outdoor spaces of the property include multiple big grass lawns and a 3.5 acre wildflower meadow with a walking path.

Boarding includes daily meals, exercise, and enrichment, as well as regular text and photo updates. If your dog has trained with Noah previously and you would would be interested in refresher training that is an additional $10/dog/day for a daily training session and a lesson at pickup.

For new clients a pre-boarding visit to the property is required so that you can become familiar and comfortable with the space and can discuss details of your dogs care with Noah ahead of time. This ensures that your dog will receive care that is consistent with what they get at home, and makes the drop-off process much easier.

A deposit of $200 is required at least a week in advance for any stay over 3 days, and any stay over 10 days gets 10% off the cost of boarding.

One Dog $85/day | Two Dogs $150/day | Three Dogs $195/day
