Did not expect the food here to be so good! I was only in Blacksburg for two days. Stopped by here on the first day and it was so good we went back for breakfast the next morning. We tried quite a large range items for only two days and especially enjoyed the bagels and paninis. The sun dried tomato cream cheese on one of the bagels was really really good. Packed with garlic flavor. Also we tried a pb cookie and it was so gooey and good. I surprisingly really enjoyed the taro tea!!! I asked for 50% sweetness and it really was less sweet while keeping the taro flavor. I was surprised because every other bubble tea place I've been to has very sweet taro tea even at less sweetness so this place is a gem for making it so well. I can't believe I only discovered Next Door Bake Shop this past summer, before my senior year! Since then, I have frequented the cafe for their stuffed bagels and yummy beverages. Their taro bubble tea was smooth and creamy and their lattes also taste great. I typically order the Sun-dried Bliss Bagel on an asiago bagel which comes with brie, sundried tomato cream cheese, turkey, and an egg. It is SO SO GOOD, plus very well-priced! They have for-here mugs, plates, and silverware, which I love since it reduces waste, and the decor inside is fun and quirky. Keep in mind that they get very busy and it will be difficult to find seating inside, and that orders can take some time when they are busy. I'd highly recommend calling to order in advance to avoid the long wait times. Unfortunately, I do have to dock a star because I've had some pretty terrible service here. I've consistently had employees be rude to me, and one time when I came with my sister, we waited about 20 minutes for 2 bagel sandwiches; finally we asked about our order and they quickly brought it out but it had already gotten cold. (I think they forgot about our order since there were people who ordered after us who'd already received their food). I really like this place! It is kind of a hidden gem in blacksburg. The place has a great variety of sandwiches and drinks. I haven't tried the drinks yet BUT the food is great and the prices are even better. For a breakfast sandwich its anywhere from 3-5 dollars and they have plenty of options for anybody's palate. This is a really cute shop! I had one of the stuffed bagels and it was really tasty. Their menu has a lot of great pairing suggestions for paninis and sandwiches, or you can build your own. Coffee was perfect too.

Cute little spot! It's easy to get to and has ample parking. There is plenty of seating too. The beverages menu is largely displayed on the chalk board immediately next to the register, while any food items are on a menu that is printed and tucked away - we actually had to ask for it as it wasn't out on the counter or anything. Prices are very reasonable, around $4 for your standard coffee or breakfast sandwich. Since I don't drink coffee, I can't speak to the quality here, but I they have a lot to offer, food-wise. Bagels were good, and the tomato bacon chive cream cheese is to die for. The only thing I didn't like is that my bagel and cream cheese didn't come dressed, I had to do it myself. Good for portion control, but a bagel just tastes better when it's made for you! Service was a bit shoddy - the woman working when we stopped in was visibly annoyed that we took some time to order (despite the store being empty) and was even tapping her nails on the counter impatiently. The food here is super yummy, and there are tons of healthy options. There is a huge drink menu of hot and iced drinks as well as a kombucha tap. I love their build your own panini option ( I get the tortilla with turkey, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, bean sprouts, spicy hummus, and Thai dressing) and the service is amazing!! Good drinks and good food in a convenient location. If you're looking for a local alternative to the Starbucks around the corner, Next Door is a good bet. Visiting from Detroit, this place was right down the street from my friend's place so we decided to go out for breakfast. I love the decor ; very artsy with multiple different colored walls, a variety of seating including couches, cloth chairs, high chairs, and plenty of tables with books and games. It's a Tuesday afternoon and several people are working on things, having polite conversation. I ordered the vegan ginger teriyaki panini to go. It was pretty good! The lady ringing us up was new but nice. I can definitely see myself coming back again, perhaps to try their stuffed bagel, or smoothies, or bubble tea. Sometimes I'm running a little late in the morning so I stop by Next Door Bake Shop for a quick breakfast or for a snack for the day. Service is always friendly, but this place does get busy especially in the morning. Going in they have a neat baked good display, where they show you exactly what baked goods they have for the day and how many there are. I am a huge fan of cookies, so I decided to get two cookies the Reese's cookie and the s'more cookie. The person also asked if I wanted to warm them up, and I happily said yes, since nothing is better than a warm cookie on a cold day. I also got a stuffed bagel called the perfect pesto and a hot chocolate. On another occasion I just got the next door club. The cookies had great texture and were super gooey! Both cookies were a little too sweet for me, maybe if I got a coffee it would have balanced out. Out of the two cookies I preferred the s'more cookie, because it was less sweeter. The perfect pesto was pretty good! It contains egg, tomato, cream cheese, and basil pesto. I liked it particularly because it was vegetarian, and the richness of the pesto and cream cheese was cut by the tomato giving it a good balance. The hot chocolate was also good, but nothing to special about it. Something rare is that this shop has paninis! I got the next door club and it was pretty good. The bread was nice and crisp. The sandwich also came with chips. Overall, I think this place is a nice little shop if your in the mood for baked goods, a bagel or a sandwich. I haven't tried much of their other items, so I'll definitely come back and give them a try. More...
