What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Lighting, emotion (laughter, happiness, even sullen!) and a great photographer personality that may include making some fun of herself to get a laugh!
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Tell me about your child(ren), your family. What is goofy to your child? Do you love candid photos or posed or a little of both? Let’s go outside if a child/family shoot… if it’s a newborn posed shoot, I’ll bring everything to you so you and your baby stay safe at home.
What do you love most about your job?
People! I adore people both big and small. My children are teenagers now, so hanging with little ones makes me a happy mama!
What inspired you to start your own business?
My daughter when she was a small baby. What Mother didn’t take a thousand photos then, but I was bit by the passion of it all and was asked by friends to photograph their little ones and then, well, my company was started!

The majority of my clients I’ve been photographing for 10+ years, and I’m considered Aunt Nancy.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Bought a 300mm L lens for my Canon cameras so I could stay far away, amongst other zoom lenses. Masks! Newborns during Covid was trickier, but layers of precautions were taken on both sides to ensure the baby and families were protected.
Child + Family photography
I don’t believe in using a studio when we live in such a glorious state. Capturing your children alone as well as with you in a gorgeous outdoor setting (think beach, woodsy, urban) that reflects your aesthetic and freezes those moments in time both you and your children will forever cherish. My images are post-processed and delivered to you electronically so that you own the images, and bonus, you can email them to friends and family and they then own them as well!

It’s imperative that I have a detailed call with you in advance to discuss all of the exciting details that go into a newborn session, such as natural light in your home, milk, timing, colors, etc. I only shoot inside your home… newborns belong safely at home, not on the road and inside a studio, I feel. I work alone but I bring an enormous amount of props, hats, outfits, wraps… I also need not use anything you’re not interested in, too. My images are post-processed and delivered to you electronically. This is great because you own the images and can forward on to family and friends for their use as well!
Maternity session
Love! This is the only session where I like to offer the option of using studio lighting to your portfolio of maternity images taken in your home, but I 100% love photographing using ambient light in your home as well as full natural light outdoors! I offer a Belly to Bassinet package of both a maternity + newborn shoot as described at www.nancyalcott.com. As with all of my shoots, your images will be post-processed and delivered to you electronically. Ah the simplicity!
