Great barbeque at reasonable prices. Staff are friendly and the restaurant was clean. The Friday night and Saturday night specials of beef ribs and prime rib are a great deal. If you have a vegetarian in your family there is not much to eat except the Mac and cheese side  I will be back! More...

Went today for lunch. My second time there. First time I had the chopped brisket sandwich with potato salad today I had the jalapeno hot link sandwich with slaw. Both were very good. The hot link had heat but not so much that you can't taste anything else, it was just right. One complaint though the buns are cold with hot meal in them. I would have given the extra star if the buns had been warm. Ok so that's my only complaint. The homemade pickles and onions offered as a condiment is great also. I can see myself picking up a pound of hot links in the future. More...

Lunch time and wanting some BBQ.  Despite the funny name of this BBQ joint, I was able to talk the guys into heading down there for some cooked meats.  Got there before the rush and seating was limited.  Ordered at the counter my 2 meats (chopped pork and sliced brisket) and 2 sides (mac n' cheese and Carolina slaw).  Here is my review - chopped pork was really good, but the sliced brisket was a little dry.  They don't put sauce on it (hence the name), but there are some sauces on the side of the restaurant that include sweet and spicy and a mustard based.  I didn't use any and instead mixed it with the onions, pickles and jalapenos.  The mac n' cheese was cheesy good, but the Carolina slaw was way too vinegar tasting.  My co-worker got the creamy slaw and he said it was the right amount of creamy.  Sometimes restaurants put too much cream on the slaw, but not Naked BBQ.  I suggest the creamy.  To finish the meal, it was the corn bread muffin.  This was a good finish.  People working were nice and quick to get your order up. There are a few places I haven't tried BBQ in the valley, but from what I have tried Naked BBQ is the best in Phoenix.  Too many places make their BBQ and the server it to you the next day or later in the week, but a real pit master knows BBQ must be served fresh or you might as well eat frozen pulled pork from the grocery store. Naked BBQ does it right, the meat stands on it's own without sauce, but I won't complain if you add sauce because that is delicious too. More...

I have been searching for good Phoenix bbq for years facing mostly disappointment.  That ended today.  I ordered the two meat platter with sliced brisket and ribs.  Nice portions with 3 pieces of brisket and 4 bones of ribs.  The brisket is amazing.  Super tender, I did not need a knife to cut it.  Great flavor this was definitely slow cooked.  The ribs are meaty and a perfect consistency which for me is tender but not quite fall off the bone.  Sides are in good portions with the Mac n cheese a winner.  The baked beans were meaty with a little spice.  Reminded me of beans in Texas cooked over a fire in an iron skillet.  Atmosphere is casual and could easily accommodate dine in or carry out.  Unfortunately this snow bird is heading home so can't come back till fall.  Can't wait More...

My husband and I have frequented this location, and ultimately decided to have Oren and his crew cater our wedding. We met with Oren at the Scottsdale location and went over all the logistics of the wedding. We were initially planning for 150 guests. Our menu consisted of sliced brisket, pulled pork, mac n cheese, green beans, green salad, coleslaw, and cornbread. They also served the peach cobbler in lieu of wedding cake. Along the wedding planning process, we determined we were going to need gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options for our guests. Oren came up with a balsamic portobello mushroom for our non-carnivorous friends and most everything that you would expect to be GF, was (meat, slaw, green beans, salad, etc). Oren was in constant contact through email with us and then we met again in person to finalize details. We ended up lowering our expected turn out to 130, and Oren was able to easily accommodate. He also coordinated and worked well with our wedding planner.Day of was like a dream. The crew was on time, organized, and executed buffet style dinner for 130 guests, flawlessly. Oren even personally went around and checked on our guests to ensure a good experience. He checked on us (bride and groom) throughout the night as well. The food was delicious and we received many complements on our selection. The pricing was reasonable too.  We were even able to use some of the trays from the restaurant, which was a nice touch to our rustic wedding/backyard bbq feel. We would highly recommend this restaurant and catering service, and I know our wedding planner stated she would recommend Naked as a BBQ vendor as well. Thanks Oren and your team for providing and excellent wedding dining experience to our family and friends!Amanda & Jeff More...

Im leaving a five star review because of the last 2 years of amazing BBQ. I do have a cautionary tale though. I have come to this place a-lot, many times 2-3 visits a week.  We took a couple months off to try different types of food (got into pho phase). Decided to get it for some work mates on a Saturday, this is were it went bad. I hyped this place up to the well deserved pinnacle of smoked meat perfection, so begrudgingly my associates gave in and i drove from Glendale to get our meat candy. Ordered brisket sandwiches and a 2 meat meal with brisket and turkey. I get back to work grinning from ear to ear about the protein we will soon enjoy in our bellies and then it happened. First i open my mobile smoked protein carrier and take my first bite of brisket flavored card board,  I quickly ask my fellow lunch crew how there sandwiches are, im asked were is the sauce its dry like saw dust.  I had previously told them this place requires no sauce,(hence why i like it). Well in close i had to cover lunch that day because of my confidence in what has never been anything less then perfect brisket. Well i came in today thinking maybe it is off because of a whole new group of people, not the case it was perfect. On a side note i did call to let someone at the store know and they did not seem interested in hearing criticism. But who can blam them when they are always on point. More...

I had been wanting to try this place for quite some time and we finally indulged for lunch this afternoon!Super duper convenient location right on Bell Rd.  Plenty of ample parking in a little strip mall.  Got there around lunch time this afternoon and thankfully, everyone in the place had already ordered and gotten their food - so we got there at the perfect time!  Yayyyyyyyy!I went with their 2-meat platter and opted for ribs and brisket.  In addition to the meats of your choosing, you can opt for 2 sides and I went with beans and mac 'n cheese.  AND in addition to all of that, I got a little corn muffin and pickled pickles and onions.  Plenty of food for an average amount of cash money.  The ribs were honestly among the best I've had.  Now I'm prefacing that by stating I'm not from Texas.  I'm not from Kansas City.  I'm not from the dirty South.  I don't proclaim to be the King 'o BBQ.  Everyone who says these ribs are really good will be, like, "OMG!!  You don't even know what real BBQ is!!!!"   Maybe I don't.  But I know it's considerably and significantly better than any ribs you'd get any chain restaurant so at this point in time - I am proclaiming that thus far, these are among the best ribs I've had.  The brisket was equally good but I'm not a brisket connoisseur... but again, it was extremely good.  Juicy, flavorful, moist and grilled / smoked to perfection.  If you haven't figured it out, it's called Naked BBQ because the meat comes naked - no BBQ sauce.  You have your choice of sweet or spicy.  I grabbed my lunch to go and smothered the meat with sauce when I got home.  Back to my lunch... the sides were awesome.  The seasoning on the mac 'n cheese was delicious and the beans had just the right amount of smokey flavor.  I would not hesitate to come back here to grab lunch or dinner to go.  My wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed it.  Excellent customer service, friendly faces and plenty of food.  I would not hesitate to recommend Naked BBQ to fellow Yelp'ers, family and friends.  Definitely among the best BBQ in Arizona, in my ever so humble opinion.  Go check 'em out! If you know me or have read any of my previous barbecue reviews, you should know by now that all barbecue joints in AZ are measured up against one man.  That man of course would be Scott Holmes of Little Miss BBQ.  Fair or unfair, that's the platinum standard.  Others I've tried in AZ put forth a worthy effort in most cases, but none can touch Scott's work.  That said, if prompted by a friend or a family member (or in this case the Phoenix New Times and Yelp), I will happily sit down and take in a barbecue experience almost anywhere.  Thus why I'm here, in a north Phoenix barbecue joint that has the New Times and Yelpers alike giddy for the meat.  On a Thursday at lunchtime, I stepped in and stepped up.Naked BBQ's flagship location can be found on the north side of Bell Road just a few blocks east of the I-17 freeway (they also have a location in north Scottsdale).  Tucked in the middle of a strip center, Naked won't wow anyone on the outside.  Inside you walk into a stack full of the same chopped wood they use for their smoker.  The stack actually acts as the start of the line when there is one (today there was not).  Owner Oren Hartman is pretty much sticking to the basics here with the type of meats and side accompaniments you would expect to see at most old school barbecue joints.  Brisket, ribs, sausage, turkey, pulled pork, slaw, beans, you know the drill.  Like Little Miss they'll occasionally have a special meat on offering (such as Tri-Trip), but today I was here to sample their everyday meats and decipher whether they've perfected their craft. The closest thing to a sampler here?  The two meat platter.  For me that would require brisket (sliced, not chopped) and pulled pork.  Comes with a cornbread muffin and two sides (beans and creamy slaw for me).  I'd also read their mini peach cobbler is quite impressive so I got one of those with whipped cream.  Total cost for all the food and tax came to $20.  They also have two sauces available here: Sweet and Spicy.  I'm a firm believer that the best meats don't require sauce so I put those to the side unless absolutely necessary.  First up, pulled pork.  Juicy and tender, but the smoke flavor was somewhat muted.  I'm not certain how long they smoke the meat or which types of wood they're using (I'm assuming oak at minimum).  I liked what little smoke flavor I picked up, but I wish there had been just a little more.  As for the brisket?  I was given a mixture of lean and fatty.  The smoke ring wasn't as pronounced on this brisket as other joints I've been to, but the meat was still juicy.  Again, a relatively muted smoke flavor on this one which was a little bit of a letdown.  So I applied the sauces on both meats.  I will say their sauces are excellent and you really can't go wrong pairing either of these with any of their meats.  For my money, I'd say apply the sweet to the pork and apply the spicy to the brisket.  The beans and slaw were both on point with a slightly spicy kick to the beans and a nice crunchy, mellowing coolness from the slaw.  The cornbread muffin?  Nice and moist and not too crumbly (perfect to dip in one of the sauces).  Lastly, there was the peach cobbler.  And this was indeed a treat.  Fantastic warm flaky crust, just the right touch of cinnamon mixed in, and the peach slices themselves had a delicious candied texture.  A great finisher I highly recommend (with or without whipped cream). All in all, just enough to get a four out of five from yours truly.  Not surprisingly, its no Little Miss (no one in AZ is as of yet), but it's a worthy addition to the repertoire.  Scott Holmes is unusual in that he buys super expensive meat for his barbecue whereas Naked is using pretty much the same quality meat most local barbecue joints use.  And given that, Naked makes quality use of them.  Their excellent sauces certainly boost the meats they serve, and the sides and dessert were all phenomenal.  Oren Hartman has a pretty good operation going here.  One that pedestrian barbecue fans will undoubtedly cheer and root for.  Keep on smokin, Oren, keep on smokin.
