I went into this restaurant excited to have some of the my favorite foods that I grew up eating, but found that this restaurant is nothing but poorly executed cultural appropriation with Zionists claiming Arab food as their own. Of course, with all stolen recipes, the food misses the mark every time with flavor and texture. You can you try to steal Palestine's food all you want but you will never be able to properly replicate it. Hummus, falafel, and shawarma aren't even Hebrew words ffs lol. Thankfully, there is better shawarma in the area that isn't plagued by cultural appropriation More...

The falafel was how I like it, hot and green on the inside and crunchy on the outside. I ordered it in a wrap with all the salad fixings. The tahini garlic sauce was very good. The fries however were over cooked. I've been here many times and the service is always good. More...

Amazing as always! I remember when this was at the next door smaller place, i remember the chicken was marinated in a slightly more eastern flavor and was a tad bit more spicy. Would pay extra to get that again!

I don't know why I haven't already reviewed Mr. Shawarma. This place is amazing. Consistently great food and service. I love getting the bowl with the spicy sauce and all the veggies but honestly everything is good. If there is any complaint it might be that it is a bit pricey for "street food" but I keep coming back. More...

VERY disappointing!!!I ordered via the app and then called the local Shawarma and told them our guest were arriving early and we needed the food at 4:45. , not 5:15. "No problem" she said " I'm making the change now"Apparently she didn't, as the DoorDash driver said they didn't begin preparing the food until nearly 5 More...

This place was amazing! I'm not even a vegan and I loved the food......everything was delicious. I don't even know what I had but that joint smacked! They have these things that look like hush puppies and man oh man! I live 3 1/2 hours away and I'm willing to drive back tonight! (Im lying, gas prices are OD right now). Mr. Shawarma. I would say it's alright, not as great as I expected. It's like there's a missing ingredient that I'm looking for when I had. It's my first time in the store, but not my first time having Shawarma. The store is clean, the guys whose serving was Nah, but the lady in the register was very friendly. You can see her smile through her eyes and she showed us that we are welcome at the store. More...

When the owner or whatever isn't there, the quality of food is really bad. I've actually stopped going to once my fav lunch spot because of this. I don't want to pay $17 for a falafel bowl with lukewarm falafel, crusty rice, soggy fries, etc. hopefully they can get things back on track. More...

If you enjoy cultural appropriation, neo-colonialism, and the apartheid, then you will enjoy this restaurant. This restaurant attempts to take Arab recipes and re-brand them as Israeli and their own. Shawarma, falafel, and hummus aren’t even Hebrew words ffs lol. I tried this restaurant in good faith but their social media claims the food as their own and that doesn’t sit well with me. The cultural appropriation here isn’t cool. As someone that has grown up eating A LOT of shawarma, hummus, and falafel in the Middle East, I can tell you that, the food is not quite as “authentic” as they brand it to be. The textures are there but the flavor profiles are really off, but that’s to be expected when you work with stolen recipes. Someone probably messed up translating some of these recipes from Arabic to English for these guys. I’d be more forgiving in my review if the folks at Mr Shawarma were at least paying homage to where the food comes from, but these supporters of the illegal occupation do not. More...

Almost a year ago, my girlfriend and I made the journey from Newport News to this little spot in Norfolk. It was on my Yelp collection list for almost a year. Once I found out they were open on Saturdays, which was convenient for a weekend drive, we checked it out and enjoyed our meal. I even put together a review for our visit. Ever since then, we've only stopped here for takeout due to the pandemic. But the food hasn't changed and definitely the flavor. My first meal was a stuffed pita with a side of French fries. After that, I have tried the pita bowl and wrap. You can't go wrong with either choice. Because my review is almost a year old, I finally decided to post a review on our latest visit.Upon entering the building, you are greeted with signs on the floor for social distancing and the new saying around town: No mask, no service. And the staff rocks face coverings. Safety first my friend. For my pick, I ordered the pita bowl with beef and lamb shawarma, rice, lentils, eggplant, hummus along with Jalapeno Schug as the base, red cabbage, cucumber tomato salad, onions, parsley, pickles, peppers and garlic sauce (almost the Works here....LOL!!) along with pita bread. Like the previous visits, this meal hit the spot on all cylinders. Having pita bread along with your bowl is a huge plus if you don't want to eat all your food by itself. What I typically do is cut my bread in halves and stuff each one to the max instead of eating just one. Call me weird....LOL!! And I liked that I had 4 peppers in my dish. They, along with the Jalapeno Schug, added a nice amount of heat. Who couldn't ask for more?!Just like many other times, it was well worth it to travel from the Peninsula to here. If you're into some Middle Eastern flavors for a reasonable price, do stop by. More...

I've been looking forward to trying Mr. Shawarma for some time. Even better to see a localized Mediterranean establishment run by Avi Eli, who grew up in Israel. You're able to customize your meal from a range of beautifully vibrant and fresh ingredients. I ordered a falafel wrap served "all the way" with a side of fries. "All the way" just means adding all of the salads and sauces on the bar. My husband and mom had lamb bowls and my brother had a lamb wrap. I particularly liked the Israeli pickles, peppers, and the cabbage slaw. I also appreciated the homemade fries as frozen fries... well, bleh. I wish I had cut my wrap with a spicier sauce or another element of seasoning. The meal was good but nothing to really "wow" me. My family really liked the lamb. So I am gearing towards giving this place another shot and ordering the sabih next time. More...

Mr. Shawarma is a Middle Eastern Fast Casual spot. Probably the best in Hampton Roads area. Their menu is simple and reasonably priced. I got the Chicken Pita with Spicy hummus, pickled cabbage, French fries, garlic and tahini sauce. This place is a must go when, BUT today the chicken was not juicy and the French fries where saggy. It really must have been an off day. I hope that was the case. Worst case would be that with all its fame and growth there quality suffer. If I was the owner I would take a look at the quality control. The reason I still gave them 5 stars is that they are REALLY good and worth your time and money More...

This Mediterranean-Style restaurant is a TRUE GEM. I've gotten takeout from this joint a handful of times since I moved to Norfolk in April and let me tell you, they never disappoint. The Pitas are my favorite, I alternate between lamb and chicken because I can't decide which I like more. The flavors are excellent and it always provides more than enough food to fill you. I always get either the falafel or the baklava on the side if I'm craving something extra and those are excellent as well. I love this place and will definitely continue to support it as long as I'm here. More...

Bright, clean, fast and friendly. The flavors are alive at Mr. Shawarma! When the veggie pairings are almost as tasty as the meat offerings know you've got a winner. There is nothing amazing about pita bread BUT stuff it with tasty roasted chicken/lamb and add some fresh crunchy veggies and you've got possibly the best Sammy I've had in a while. Even the little people in my life happily devoured their meal with no complaints/chatter... silence of the lambs! (Bad jokes are kinda my THING!) The humus is very tasty. Falafel here is so flavorful and fresh. My only issue (very personal and in no way reflect the tastiness of the sauces..) sauces and hot sauce could use just a LITTLE more punch. I LOVE a little more heat personally. BUT, overall my favorite HR spot for some meat actually roasted and sliced to order shawarma. I only wish there were a few more sides to choose from. There is ample parking and the area seems safe and very clean. Happy Eating YEEPS!!! More...
