Our family stayed at Morgan & Wells this past weekend for my daughter’s wedding at The Spinning Leaf and we all loved the accommodations! Everyone was so friendly & helpful, it made our weekend even more special as we felt like we were at “home”. The rooms were clean, the beds very comfortable & it was so quiet & peaceful. All of the rooms had distinct characteristics and were uniquely different. We enjoyed our first evening relaxing in the main salon in front of the fireplace. |Breakfast Saturday morning was awesome. Some of our party enjoyed massages in the afternoon, arranged by the B and B, others just enjoyed relaxing. Saturday night we set up for a murder mystery. We were given free reign to decorate. They planned dinner around our time line and made it feel like it was our house. The evening was remarkable. Sunday’s breakfast was wonderful. One of the couples goes there several times a year, and I can see why. It's quite convenient to Charlotte while still in a what appears to be the thriving community of Shelby. This was our third time staying at Morgan and Wells and it was nothing short of fabulous! We stayed in the magnificent Melvin Maurice room and it was cool and welcoming when we arrived - not to mention being greeted like family by Linda and Melanie. It felt like a homecoming! The bed was soft wonderful and the shower, though a little small, was powerful and relaxing. And don't even get me started on breakfast...veggie frittata, cinnamon french toast, cheese grits...the delicious list goes on and on. Thanks again Melanie and co! This was our second visit to Shelby and Morgan & Wells. Hospitality is superb with Melanie, and on this trip, a new innkeeper, Linda, provided assurances of all needs being met. I cannot say enough for the warmth, character, and charm of the B&B. My daughter's wedding venue was across the street which was perfect. This was a beautiful, warm and comfortable home. It was pristine clean!!|Bed extremely comfortable. Plenty of privacy too. We enjoyed sitting in front of the fireplace in the evening. Melanie was such a welcoming hostess! I felt like I was a very special guest visiting an old friend, then she left us alone until morning coffee. Melanie personalized our visit by making us a breakfast tray and delivering it upstairs. The joy she has in serving her guests radiated and the pride she takes in her home is obvious from first meeting at the door. Having stayed at several B&Bs over the past 18 years, my wife and I have come to appreciate that the single greatest factor that influences our experience, positive or negative, is the people/ the innkeepers and staff. It doesn't matter if it's a ma & pa who do it all, or an Inn where they have a full staff of help (kitchen, cleaning, etc.)||Before we arrived Melanie assured us that we would be comfortable, offering travel tips, directions and dinner suggestions. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Linda who showed us around and to our spacious room. I told her that we were going to Asheville the following day, and having lived and worked there, she was an amazing resource for things to see and do there. We both slept well in the soft comfy bed, and were not disturbed by any noise or anyone - and we're not early risers, so that's important to us!||The breakfast that Linda made was as delightful to eye at as it was delicious to the pallet and there was plenty of it - so much so that we couldn't finish (& trust me, I tried!) Becky and I really appreciate making new friends everywhere we go, and we made three here! We didn't have breakfast with other guests, as they were up and gone before us, but Linda, Melanie and Derek were all super friendly! We felt as though we'd known them for years, almost right away! Melanie and Derek (The Innkeepers/ Owners) took pride in sharing with us the before and after transformation and the process of converting this once neglected victorian house into the gorgeous and inviting Bed and Breakfast that it is today! Very comfortable beds and nicely furnished. The breakfast was super amazing. So tasty and I overate as the food kept coming and coming and each was better than the last. I chose this B & B from an online search for a place to stay outside of Charlotte where we attended a wedding. A recent storm made it impossible to stay in the Saint James room where we had planned to be But Melanie, who is lovely, gave us a choice of two rooms upstairs. We stayed in the green room. I was taken here by a very special lady as a surprise for my 50th birthday. What a great surprise and experience. The place is beautiful, cozy and comfortable to say the least. The bed was so incredibly comfortable and the breakfast that the chef cooked was wonderful!!! I highly suggest the spa treatment. We were in Shelby, NC for a performance at the Don Gibson Theater and booked a stay at Morgan and Wells B&B. The house is beautifully restored and decorated, the rooms are spacious and very comfortable, and the breakfast is delicious, BUT, the take-away memories are all about the owners/innkeepers. Melanie and Derrick are two of the most delightful people you will ever meet. They have a gift for hospitality and are wonderful hosts who make you feel like family. There is a chef's breakfast every morning with coffee, tea, and water readily available anytime. Lounge on the front porch in the rocking chairs or in the two living rooms with comfy chairs and couches. During my stay, the other guests became like a family since we were all there for a big horse show. I ended up staying in two different rooms as I kept adding nights. The Lady Anne is unique in that it has two beds in two different rooms. The other nights I was in the La Sal room which also had a nice bed with a slightly smaller bathroom. The B&B is a short walk to downtown if you have a group or a quick car trip. Lots of places to eat and the B&B is close to a main road (74) if you need to get to Charlotte or over to the Tryon International Equestrian Center. More...
