We spent the weekend in San Simeon and came upon this place! It was great and it was packed!! But we waited at the bar, got served right away with great drinks. The staff is very nice- all of them!! So good, we went back 3 times in our one week in Cambria. Beautiful spot with a great sunset view right on the water, friendly and prompt service. The grilled cod tacos are amazing - ask for the chipotle sauce. So good that we went back to have them again. The seafood fusilli was packed with fish, shrimp, clams and mussels in a light tomato broth sauce. Just perfect and not too heavy, although such a generous portion that I took home half for lunch next day. Clam steamers are fresh and sweet in a delicious broth. Save some of the warm bread when you sit down to dip in it. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the clam chowder. Flavor was good. Came here two nights in a row, it was just that good! From service, to food, to the view everything was perfect. The best clam chowder we have ever had. Four of us had lunch at MBB& G on June 12th.  Beautiful location; right across the road from the ocean. We were a bit worried on seeing the amount of cars parked around the restaurant and thought there would be a long wait (early dinner at 5:30/party of 3). To our surprise, we could be seated immediately inside, there would be a wait for the outside (we were given the option). We all ordered Fish and Chips and were impressed with the portion. The food came out extremely fast, and although we weren't rushed, it seemed like there was constant movement around us which wasn't very relaxing.  I think sitting outside may be a better choice, and next time will take the wait. Lovely time at Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill. I visited with a party of six at mid-day on a Saturday. We had about a 15 minute wait before we were seated outside. The patio area is spacious and has a lot of umbrellas to keep you out of the sun. There also seemed to be a lot of seating on the inside. Our food came out quickly, as well as our drinks. I tried the Health Nut sandwich. All of the veggies were fresh and there was a generous amount of filling. The herbed mayo was very tasty, but there was a bit more mayo than I hoped for. I wasn't a fan of the grilled sourdough bread as it was pretty greasy and contrasted quite a bit with the refreshing veggies. The line to be seated moves quickly.  Food comes out quickly, almost assembly-line like.  Food is good to very good (not great).  The view can't be beat which is why we had two dinners here so far; we've been in town five nights. Franco was our waiter for dinner #2.  He was very good until it was time to leave.  I put the dinner charge on plastic but my friends each left a $20 bill for the tip; that's $40.  I didn't want to just leave that much cash for fear someone else would pick it up.  I waited and waited.  He was busy chatting with the manager; had his back to us.  Never once turned around to check on us or his other tables.  Finally, I took the $40 and walked up to him on our way out and put it in his hand. Had to wait in line to get in, once you're in front of the hostess desk there are reviews from previous patrons on the wall raving about the place.  Well.....not so much.  I ordered the fresh catch of the day thinking that since this is a seafood restaurant it will be in season Alaska salmon.  Nope, farmed.  At $39.   Came with a serving of a sad rice pilaf and was plated on a thin pesto sauce.  Whole thing was sad.  I foolishly decided to get something sweet so I ordered some carrot cake.  Yum, right?  Nope, the frosting was rubbery and odd tasting.  Came with ice cream and an odd chantilly cream that was on the edge of curdling.  If you're staying on Moonstone Beach take a few minutes and drive into Cambria where there are much better restaurants, especially for the price. My husband and I have been visiting Cambria for nearly 30 years.  We always have at least one dinner here.  When we're here five days, we'll eat at least three of our meals here; when we're here a week, we'll usually eat four meals here -- you get it. Bummer. I've passed by here many times over the years, hoping to try their seafood, but was always put off by the line. I got lucky recently with no line on a weekday, so I jumped at the opportunity. The lunch menu had almost nothing that looked interesting. Only one kind of fish?  And not even local?  I went with a tried and true chowder. We drove down the coast, visited Hearst Castle, saw the elephant seals and discovered THIS fabulous restaurant by the ocean. Outdoor seating with a plexiglass wall to block the wind. A delicious meal and wine while watching the sunset. We each had seafood pasta - overflowing with an array of mussels, salmon, calamari and more. I truly felt like I was on vacation. And Arturo, our waiter, was excellent. Nancy, the host, was terrific - she  did a better job of estimating the time to be seated than anyone I've ever seen. Another wonderful dinner at Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill 10+ !!!!Seafood Pasta was amazingly and the Crab Legs were the best I've ever had !  Customer Service from our beautiful Host to our very attentive Server we're the beginning to a fabulous evening. This is a MUST Visit if you're in Cambria, CaOne more compliment......On our first night here we were lucky enough to get an OUTSTANDING Waitress by the name "Vanae" (I'm sure I spelled it incorrectly). Vanae went "above and beyond" to make our evening comfortable and the meal delicious. She was very attentive, service with a smile  and took care of our needs before we even asked for anything. Went to the Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill tonight for our first of five nights here on Moonstone Beach. A long awaited vacation. Calamari - excellent!  Walnut Salad - outstanding !Clam chowder- the best ever!Wine - wonderful Rib eye - a couple of issues and what Amazing Customer Service from our Wait Staff (she was awesome) to the Manager who came and spoke to us. Always looking for really great seafood and New England Clam Chowder and this place didn't disappoint. It was a busy Thursday evening. Waited for about 15 mins, not to bad, for seating outside. The scenery is nice with the beach on the side and the beautiful waves flowing in and out. There are plenty of seats. you have an option to eat either indoor or outdoor depending on your mood, but if you choose to eat outdoor, be prepared for wind blowing your way while eating. Let's get to the main course which is the burger called mile high cheeseburger. When you order your burger, you will be asked how you want your burger meat cooked and I chose medium rare. The Angus sirloin burger meat is grilled nicely with a bit of smokey and minor burn taste. Plenty of lettuce inside with three mini pieces of bacon on the top. We came for Mothers Day Brunch. The line to get seated was very long and we were afraid the service would be poor due to the busy day. We were wrong. Have been coming here for years. Today we took a drive down from Paso Robles to enjoy the cooler weather. Lunch was amazing ! ! Oysters, crab cakes, fish and chips, and calamari!! Moonstone  was highly recommended by family that has visited the Cambria area and am I glad I listened! The restaurant is conveniently located in the Moonstone Beach area of Cambria, literally a 2-3 minute walk from our hotel (and probably most others). The atmosphere is casual and friendly. It is also very clean. You first add your name to the list and can either hang out in the many seating areas or at the bar. There is inside and outside seating upon request, with ocean views no matter where you sit.The food is delicious and fresh. Nothing too heavy or bland. Just the right amount of portions are served leaving you satisfied and ready for a walk along the beach. The friendly bartenders will serve up delicious cocktails to accompany the meal. My partner opted for fish tacos and I ordered shrimp pasta. Both were prepared just right!I will definitely add this restaurant as a regular stop when in the area. Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill was recommended to us & it didn't disappoint.  We both got the Strip Loin Steak. It was cooked to perfection & absolutely delicious, as were the mashed potatoes.  Our server was Stacey & she was wonderful. So fun, so personable and we loved her! Located on the stunning Moonstone Beach Drive in Cambria.  You must go!!!This place is 10 star worthy.... I've been home from my trip for over a week and I'm still dreaming about that pasta dish I had.  I'm already planning my next visit and I told Jeremy we were going to eat here for every meal.  I was serious about that.Truly a special place, for a special evening. It was my best friend's birthday. And I wanted us to have a spectacular night.  And Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill met my big expectations.First, we were greeted by a warm & inviting store front, easy parking in the private lot and also along Moonstone Beach Drive.  There was a line, probably about 15 people ahead of us. But the line moved quickly, we had arrived around their opening time of 5:00 pm. So the wait wasn't bad. We got seated on the patio in absolutely stunning beach views.  Don't worry about being cold on a windy sunset evening - they have clear parameters to block the wind and ample heat to warm the patio seating area which is quite large. The restaurant provides the MOST STUNNING views of the ocean and dinner will treat you to an epic sunset. Truly one of the prettiest places I've been in a very long time. We were quickly greeted and politely served by our wait person. Excellent attention to detail and service with a smile.We ordered two glasses of wine. I had the Sauvignon Blanc, Lisa had some other white wine. We both loved the wine, it paired perfectly with our food.I ordered the Spicy Tequila Cream Chicken Pasta $25.35 - that's a lot for pasta but I tell you, I would have paid $30 for that plate of pasta. Utterly delicious. Just the right amount of heat, not too hot so don't be worried. It was perfect in every way.Lisa had the Strip Loin Steak - $28.15, she ate every bite and thoroughly enjoyed it.I told the waitress we were celebrating a birthday and Lisa was treated to a free dessert. She choose the Ice Cream and Oregon Berries $9.25, but free on your birthday. Those berries are sautéed in Grand Marnier. The waitress was very kind and helped me sing happy birthday to Lisa. Lisa asked the waitress for two spoons and was willing to share a few bits with me. When I told her I was done with the dessert, she grabbed that thing so fast and claimed it for herself , tells you how excellent it was.Overall, if you love this review and decide to go, make sure you check the hours they are open. They don't do breakfast, I wish they did. But they do lunch and then close for a few hours and reopen at 5 pm. Beautiful location across the street from the boardwalk to grab a bite.  That said, the food was just OK.  The cod sandwich was mostly lettuce with very little cod.  The crab cakes were a little soggy.  If you are looking for great food, I'd skip it. Every single dish was delicious. The service was good and the outdoor seating had a nice view of the beach. The coconut shrimp is the best I have had. The salad was nicely tossed and the shrimp was good. This was the first time I had clam chowder, they sold me on it.
