I have 20+ years of experience teaching movement as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, parkour coach, and student of many movement disciplines (martial arts, breakdancing, yoga, and more). Sean is a first class fitness professional. He was my coach for many years (and would be still if he hadn’t relocated to Colorado! ) and he helped me rehab from cancer treatment. He has extensive knowledge of chronic health problems and the ability to safely coach people living with these issues. I highly recommend Sean as a coach to anyone, regardless of age or ability. First thing you should know about Sean - he's very intelligent. This might be an unusual spot to start for a movement coach recommendation, but bear with me. He's someone who will take a long moment to consider your goals, your needs, where you want to go, and where you are right now. He does an excellent job breaking down complex movements into a series of progressions (or regressions, if you will) and tailoring what you want to what you can. He uses that iterative process to help his students overcome both physical limitations and underlying fear. Typically, when someone claims they will help you conquer your fears, it often involves some questionably reckless behaviors. Not in Sean's case! The man is a safety nut, in his years of working with me he had saved me from myself more than once. Sean is a great teacher. He is extremely well educated on the human body and he taught me tons about proper stretching and strengthening technicques. I was saving to go get knee and back surgery when I met Sean. It has been a long hard road but I have not had to have surgery and am very thankful to Sean for helping make that possible. The bottom line is Sean is a real professional who doesn't make you feel bad about how ignorant you are about your own body or how far you have let your health go. What makes MonkeyStyle different is our emphasis on MOVEMENT and SKILL-BUILDING. In other words, "losing weight" and "feeling better" are good outcomes but they are not GOALS. "Climb a mountain," "learn a handstand," "run a 10K" - these are GOALS. Once we figure out the MOVEMENT you want to do, the rest of it - weight loss, muscle tone, etc. - happens on its own.

You must have a specific MOVEMENT you want to achieve. This creates a much deeper connection to the body and gets you PSYCHED, which is the key to LASTING results. If you just "want abs" for some vague reason, this is not for you...

God, everything! Making people stronger, playing outside for a living, seeing someone's personality change with their body, solving biomechanical problems, watching skills grow, discovering new parks and playgrounds. Honestly, all of it.
