The pros: right downtown, tons of indoor and outdoor seating, 2 bars, and 1 block from the water. Cons: the food is terrible. If you decide to go, don't order any food. We want to love this place so bad and we've tried different menu items but we never finish them. There's typically a cover charge on the weekends and since we live locally, it's hard to get on board with that. But I'm sure that's how they make money to pay the bands. We hope the food improves so we can visit again. But we warn everyone not to eat there. And the manager is always out on the side smoking cigarettes. More...

Good ol Mcdonaghs pub. I do not even know where to start, but please be careful eating here. Boneless chicken breast and wings are left uncovered in the walk in and feed to customers, sauce jars never get washed just refilled and customers are getting expired sauces. I have witnessed a manager bleaching glass wear that customers drink out of to clean it.Make sure you pay attention to your tab. They like to uncharge you for items you did not even drink for example if you order a house vodka/tequila you maybe charged for Titos or casamigos instead. Getting away with. Your server or bartender maybe high or intoxicated because they allow their employees to drink on the job. They also serve people without checking their ids so if you are under 21 this is the spot to come to because you will get served.do not waste your time coming here on the weekend you will be charged a $10 cover charge for the owner to pocket the money in his own pocket and that money is never reported. if you plan to have a party in the upstairs location be advised that you will be hit with a 20% room fee and none of it goes to the servers or bartenders working the party you are then to feel guilt and shame for not tipping and pay more then what you should for an over priced party.if you are wondering why your food is taking so long and you never see a manager come up to your table its because they are hiding in the pushes puffing their cigs away. nobody in this establishment actually cares about the customer. They just want your money.Think again about letting your child work at an establishment like this. Even if you are an adult. My husband and I had dinner there tonight. Our service by Sam was great, good meals and there was a wonderful band playing. Won't give any stars this is not a review of the food ,drink or service . I'm been going to McDonoughs for 15 yrs never had a bad experience till tonight when after moving my Son and his girlfriend out of there apts from college today . We decided to go to McDonoughs for something to eat and drink , when we got there the doorman said 10.00 cover charge at the door because a band was playing ! So it would cost me 40.00 at the door to just walk in ! Told guy we were here to eat and not for the Band and that we would dine near the new pizza oven side of the bar ! Enjoyed the new bar and drinks. Wish we could've stayed longer but when the food arrived we ran out in disgust. Ordered the Irish spring roll and steak wedge salad. Absolutely horrendous. We found McDonagh's for dinner before a show at the PNC bank arts center nearby. After a bit of a travel and motel snafu we needed something positive and this was it! We were greeted nicely immediately upon entering g and were directed to the outside hostess stand for outside seating. We were immediately seated and then taken care of by Mike. I gotta say, Mike provided one of the best service experiences I've ever had. No exaggeration. I served and bartended for over a decade so I know the drill. What Mike provided was more than just service. I went from being annoyed and stressed out and tired, to being happy, full, contented and ready to take on the night! We had brick oven wings, Reuben quesadillas and a cheeseburger. Everything was HOT and was brought out as it was ready-which I love. All the food was delicious. If I'm nit picking, I am not a huge fan of the coated style fries but when my wife was done I ate them all! Another huge compliment to Mike's service was his beer suggestion. I asked what was local and IPA on draught and he made a couple of suggestions, asked me what I like and don't like and ended up leading me toward the Kane Brewing selection. I gotta say it was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Finally, I'd like to mention that all of the little details were attended to. This place is really a great spot to have some drinks and apps.  My favorite app are the Tator tots with brisket served with an egg over the top.  I was surprised that they took it off the menu!  However they made it for me anyway.  Thanks for that because it is what I go there for every time I visit Keyport.  Keyport has a really small town feel with antique shops over a couple of blocks as well as a few bars and restaurants right by the water.  It is a beautiful little town that is becoming very popular.  McDonaugh's has built an outdoor bar and added seating to create an excellent atmosphere to enjoy some drinks and good food.  A must try if you're in the area. We just got a delivery order from DoorDash. On the receipt, everything we ordered is correct. In actuality, the items we ordered were given to us exactly as presented on the menu, and without items, such as cheese and other burger add-ons that we were definitely charged extra for. Our receipt also reflects that we were supposed to get sides other than fries, yet we did not. If a business can make the effort to correctly enter an order into their system, including all applicable upcharges, but they can't make the effort to actually give a paying customer what they paid for, that's more than just poor service. It's theft and fraud. I am reporting our experience to the Better Business Bureau. We were long time customers, but we will be taking our money elsewhere from now on. More...

I use to come to this restaurant all the time but it slowly started to go downhill so i stopped coming in. On Sunday I decided to give it another chance and come in with a small group. We walked in and the hostess at the front seemed way more interested in her conversation with the boy next to her than getting us a table, we waiting nearly 5 minutes for her to even realize we were there and we continued to watch her ignore other customers as well (not a great first impression) the food was okay but it still use to be better. Still a go to spot for me and the family. The changes that have been made really stepped this place up. The staff is very nice and the place is well-kept beers are cold. After sitting at our table for 10 minutes having not received any silverware or visit from the waitstaff, my chum and I decided we'd get up and leave if no one showed up in the next four minutes. The waiter appeared with two minutes to spare. Given how the experience went after that, I honestly wish he hadn't and that we'd gone somewhere else.I came here this past Saturday with my Millennial Chum for a late lunch around 2, 2:30pm. Initially it looked fairly busy with the remnants of the lunch crowd, but the place got progressively emptier as the meal went on. McDonagh's is centrally located in downtown Keyport and the restaurant interior is very spacious - the main room with the bar island was large, and it looked like they had a slightly smaller dining room off to the side, along with an outdoor area for warmer weather. The decor reminded me a little of a Thatcher McGee's, though instead of recreating an Irish cottage, the walls were decorated with what looked like spiffy NYC bar storefronts, if that makes sense. And it's clearly a popular spot with the locals, which certainly counts for something.Food-wise, I wasn't impressed. I ordered a plain hamburger medium rare, and my chum got the brick oven wings with Thai sauce. The hamburger was cooked medium well instead and was super greasy - every time I picked it up and slightly squeezed, drops of grease would fall down next to the fries. Not particularly appetizing. When I would put the burger down between bites, I had to carefully maneuver it so the grease didn't get soaked back into the bun. I tried the wings and didn't like them very much. I'm not a huge wing person, but they were super dry and pretty bland - the Thai sauce was fine but sparingly distributed, so I barely tasted it, even when I was intentionally trying to get a saucier bite. For what it's worth, the Millennial Chum liked them more than I did, though admitted toward the end of the adventure that they were indeed pretty dry. The portion for them was pretty decent, especially for an app - it easily could (and was for her) a full meal. Beyond the mediocre food, the service was super uneven. When we came in, the greeter brought us to a table right up front and said she'd be back shortly with silverware. We never saw her again. As mentioned before, the waiter belatedly showed up almost 15 minutes after we sat down and was very hot and cold demeanor-wise. He seemed utterly miserable and tired when he came to take our orders, but in subsequent visits was apologetic over the wait and friendlier, thanking my friend for stacking up the empty/unused plates for easy pickup. Like Forrest Gump's chocolates, you never knew what you were going to get. To be fair, it looked like he was covering a lot of tables throughout the giant main bar room, so he was racking up the mileage and spread pretty thin. This may have been a situation where they figured they didn't need as much coverage mid-afternoon and underestimated the turnout from an unseasonably warm February day. The prices seemed pretty reasonable for the area - I think the bill came to around $32 or so (it helped that we moistened our palates with water and nothing else). It's a shame - this is probably the best real estate you could hope to have in Keyport for a restaurant in terms of square footage and location, and it feels like they're squandering it. More...

Looking for a nice place to grab some snacks and a few cocktails.. came across McDonagh's. This place is huge... super sweet decor, and a very large bar. The Jameson is tasty, service is attentive,  and the food is delicious. We saw pics of crinkle  cuts fries (got super excited) however hot delicious perfectly cooked regular fries came out... with a side of beer cheese of course.  . I decided on the Ruben Quesadilla (I asked for more beer cheese ‍). Let's just say it's two meals. The beef is tender... no teeth picking afterwards... the kraut and Swiss is the perfect blend.  We also were the first bar pie order. Don't let the Irish Pub fool you. We got a half pepperoni half plain, well done. Sweet Mary Moses... it was perfect.  The sauce is super yummy... and the crust... Yumo! Can't wait to come back. More...

My husband and I had a small wedding reception in the new upstairs room. We did cocktail style with all appetizers and drinks. It was absolutely amazing and perfect. Not only was everyone raving about how delicious the food was, the atmosphere was exactly what we wished for and more. Our bartender, Sharon, and our server, Mike, were so on top of things, kind, patient with the children, and friendly…we almost felt like they were part of the family.
