Kept hearing about this H-Street spot at the dog park.   (My Corky doesn't tend to trust 'strangers' for grooming, so I was at my wits' end and did my research. If you're a Dog Dad, you know what I'm talking about). No 'cages', which is important to me.   The girl who answered the phone was helpful, but I didn't get her name. We brought our pup here for his very first grooming and we will be coming back! The staff was so kind, the facilities were clean, and it took an hour and a half. Im so happy I found Masterpiece Canine Spa to groom my 12 year old Maltichon Tex.  He's a good boy and likes most people and dogs but doesn't really like to be groomed by strangers.  Its difficult for me to trim his nails and feet and he will not let me brush his teeth.  I was able to make a same day appointment with Anthony.  The location was easy to find with the clear instructions I was given and it was quite clean and clam when I arrived.  Check in was easy and they even offered us some water while we waited.  Anthony did a wonderful job cleaning up tex's feet bum and face and he looked so cute afterwards he's had so many compliments.  My sister even said his feet looked like "show dog feet".  We will be back!! Love, love, LOVE this place! They are very caring and attentive to details, both with the grooming and with the personality of my pup. They are also very professional and organized. They knew who my pup was by name the first time he ever walked in. This place is not cheap but it is worth every penny. I was out of the state for work and my husband isnt the best keeping up with grooming, you can just imagine how stressed I was thinking about what I was going to find on my return. So this review has been long overdue. Masterpiece Canine Spa is the best place that I have ever had my animals groomed. I have a standard poodle, a rat terrier X rescue, and a long hair cat. In previous salons I had to wait 6 hr for my dogs to be done. Sometimes the results were not as glamorous. After Masterpiece Canine Spa, my standard poodle, who get grooms by Katelyn, always looks and smells incredible. Constantly has his picture taken and get complimented on the street. My rat terrier X, who is scared of strangers and isn't a fan of grooming, finally feels comfortable in a grooming salon. She loves all the staff. Never shakes dropping off and runs in every time we go there. My cat, who has had some really bad haircuts and gets stressed at the groomers came out looking amazing. Lauren handled him with complete ease. He looks amazing. All done in half the time, it usually takes for most grooming salons. The staff is a very knowledgeable, very professional, and always greets you and your pet with a smile. Definitely doesn't make your pet feel like it's just another dog or cat. When I learned I was deploying overseas, I quickly started looking for a groomer that could help our three dogs clean while I was gone. We found Abby, Rachel, and Masterpiece Canine Spa, and we could not be happier. Our dogs (two french bulldogs and a pug) come back happy, clean, and well cared for. From moving, my dog has visited 2 different groomers.  Now, here in D.C. , we've gone to Masterpiece Canine Spa at least three times. The owner is absolutely fabulous - so gracious, caring, and friendly!  I hand over my little dog right into her arms - he never goes in a cage.  The groomer we've had is exceptionally calm, and does a super professional job - definitely show dog work.  There are never other barking dogs or a hassled atmosphere.  These two persons couldn't be nicer, more efficient - I have complete trust my dog will be well treated. I recently got a Malshi puppy and his hair grows very fast. We always schedule our appointments with Katelyn because she's really patient with the little pup. Throughout the whole process, she's chatting with him to make sure he's comfortable. My puppy is known to be very dramatic - just ask my vet. He's literally the biggest baby ever, but Katelyn is still able to do her job well regardless of his random cries (he cries even when the scissors are nowhere near him or if the dryer turns on). They groom the dogs out in the open so you can watch if you'd like. The place is also clean, which is always a plus. OH! Another thing, another client picked up her dog with an ear infection and Katelyn saw that it had spread to in-between the paws (most likely from scratching). This dog was so furry so it would've been hard to spot it but seeing how Katelyn works, I'm not at all surprised that she caught it. Katelyn is thorough and handles her furry clients like it's her own. When I first met her, she had a doggy voice and I instantly knew she was animal friendly. I've been to MCS to groom my puppy after some extensive research for groomers in the DC area. I love the fact that at Masterpiece, you can schedule your appt for your dog with hourly blocks. This versus what other groomers do which is have you drop the dog off all day and then pick them up at the end. I always thought this practice by the way was super weird -- it doesn't take the dog all day to get groomed... so why not have hourly booked appointments like any other salon? Anyway, the staff and team at Masterpiece are fantastic. I think it's clear that they love dogs and pets in general. I was incredibly nervous to drop off my 3 month old puppy at the time as it was her first professional grooming experience. But I could not have been more pleased with the results. Abby and her team of groomers took such good care of her and before the end when we picked her up, she was wagging her tail and was very happy. I now have gone back 3x and each experience is the same. They also provide really helpful tips on things that are outside of grooming -- like training and health tips that I found very useful. My 6mo puppy, Nico had such a pleasant experience. Rachel was super friendly on the phone and even better in person! Katelyn was gentle and great with my puppy. The place is very clean with room for dogs to move around comfortably. Nico was the only dog there at the time as they take dogs by appointment, allowing him to receive one on one attention. Took my 10 mo old Sheltie pup and 10 yo Domeranian (Doxie/Pom rescue mutt) in for the first time yesterday and WOW! We had our dog Sadie groomed by Katelyn. Our dog is very shy and nervous and the whole experience was phenomenal. Katelyn did an exceptional job bathing, brushing, grooming and trimming Sadie. We just visited Masterpiece today and it will be not be our only visit!   They took wonderful care of Diego and he looks fabulous.  The groomer was gentle and sweet and Diego immediately was comfortable with her.  She understood what a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is supposed to look like.   They do not kennel the dogs.  Highly recommend More...

A friend of mine who owns a local pet food and supply shop recommended Masterpiece Canine Spa (MCS) when I said I needed a place to go in DC. I have a very sensitive and sweet 7 year old dog who is used to extreme pampering by his current groomer, but she lives too far away for it to be convenient anymore. Not only is MCS convenient, but it is a place where I feel I can trust to take my little dude. They were accommodating, sweet, and made sure that we were comfortable leaving him there and that he was happy while getting groomed. They also sent photos. It was great. He loved it and will be back for grooming at MCS from now on. Love that there was not wait because of their appointment system. He was in and out in around an hour. AWESOME place. Thanks ladies!! My dog, Leonardo, had such a great experience at Masterpiece!! The space is lovely, so calm and relaxing for dogs, and the owners dropping them off =) Staff is great, they showed me around the spa and assured me Leo was in good hands. My dog is super apprehensive about nail cutting (we typically take him to the vet and they do it in the back) so I didn't expect Masterpiece to have any luck...I was shocked & so happy to see that Leo had his nails cut when I went to pick him up!! By far the best dog grooming experience I've had. My 45 lb pit mix was happy and calm (unusual for her because she's anxious and hates baths) and received the best de-shedding she's ever gotten--she hasn't shed at all in the week since her grooming. She's also been scratching less (they used a medicated shampoo that I didn't even know she needed), and her coat feels cleaner and softer than it has in years! The folks who work here are incredibly nice, the facilities are spotless, and I'm so excited to have a groomer I can finally trust on the Hill (and that is worth every penny). More...

Masterpiece Canine Spa is wonderful! It's brand new, with top of the line equipment, and a super awesome space where you can see everything. The owners were kind enough to let me hang around while Baxter was groomed, which was super awesome because I learned some things about him, like he doesn't like his front legs touched and gets a little nippy. The groomer, Katelyn, adjusted her methods to keep him comfortable. I went the day before the opening party, so while I sat, I got to preview the prosecco being offered the next day and chat with owner and hear their philosophy. There was a senior dog waiting for its owner, and I was super impressed with the information provided to the owner about how it may be time to stop grooming that dog. I loved that they were willing to sacrifice profit and advocate for what's best for the pet! Lastly, they don't crate their guests and only work on one dog at a time. Professional, perfection and personality plus!!! This is an amazing doggie spa.. Katelyn is my groomer and she is the best I have ever had groom my dogs. ... she is patient, loving, and a perfectionist !!! Best groomer we have gone to! We have a 70lb, 5 year old Goldendoodle who is a little skittish getting bathed and groomed. We have never felt good about his past grooming experiences - he always came back nervous and fretful, or in the worst case, sick! All that said, we are thrilled to find Masterpiece Spa. Not only did they do a wonderful job with our pup's cut, but he was happy and much less stressed after his appointment. The technicians only take one dog at a time, so your dog is only there as long as he or she needs to be and gets extra special care. The staff is super friendly and will text pictures and questions during the appointment. They also sent me a ~20 minute heads-up before our pup was finished, so I could pick him up right on time. Cannot recommend Masterpiece enough! We brought our 3-month-old goldendoodle, Judy, here for her first-ever grooming and are SO happy we did. The place is brand new, remarkably clean, and all the staff members are so kind, friendly and incredibly skilled. We felt totally comfortable leaving our little lady in their capable hands. The groomer, Katelyn, was super patient with our wiggly 3-month-old, and took extra time and attention to make sure she wasn't freaked out or scared during all the necessities (nail trim, ears, private parts, etc.) and blow dry. When we came to pick Judy up, we were blown away by how refreshed and beautiful she looked. Not to mention, she was calm and not traumatized in the slightest.Even better, this isn't your typical groomers -- you book your grooming by appointment and bring your pet in for just that appointment time, as opposed to just dropping off your dog for the day (although, if you need to do that, they team up with Atlas Doghouse next door to make that possible). I much prefer this, so that our pup can get their full attention for the time she's there, and not have to wait around in a crate before/after. Plus, they're open on Saturdays and Sundays -- so you can bring your pet in for their appointment, go grab brunch, and come back and pick up your beautifully groomed pup! More...
