The Mary Gay House was absolutely the best place to have my wedding reception. The staff are all incredibly helpful, kind, and willing to accommodate or make things easier in any way possible. The historical aspect and decor of the house makes the space seem like a step back in time, all the while also being very cozy and inviting. The outside patio was ideal for guests to spread out and move around throughout the night. I hope in the future I will have another occasion for which to return! More...

The Mary Gay House is a perfect reception venue for the Atlanta/ Decatur area. The house is beautiful and unique, and the decor is definitely one of a kind. Amy and the whole staff were so helpful and made the planning process much less stressful. It is a charming space and definitely a little off the beaten path. This charming antebellum home convenient to Downtown Decatur and the Greater Atlanta Metropolitan Area is a hidden gem when it comes to social events: excellent location, charming design, modern features, and an unbeatable staff, all at an extremely fair price. With a spacious patio, large dining room, and several smaller rooms, the Mary Gay House can be made to accommodate groups of any size, although parties of 40 to 60 will fit nicely into the "sweet spot." The classical elegance of the exterior and interior lends itself to almost limitless decorating potential and in many ways the Mary Gay House is a blank canvas awaiting the imagination and creativity of its potential guests. The facilities at the Mary Gay House are top-notch, and the staff is excellent: attentive enough to be helpful but "hands off" enough to not be smothering. My wife and I had our wedding reception at the Mary Gay House and we would strongly recommend it as an excellent location for any private event. More...

We had our wedding ceremony at another location and celebrated our wedding reception at this venue with about 110 guests. They provided 10 tables and 100 chairs and allowed us to personalize the location with additional furniture and decor . We added a tent on the rear patio to create a separate "room" for drinks and dancing. It worked wonderfully for us, but is definitely not needed on a nice day. Our guests had a wonderful time. The staff was helpful and accommodating. I had to email questions and requests (instead of speak to someone directly) during the planning period since there isn't anyone consistently on site, but they typically responded within 24 hours and were on site when needed just prior to and during the actual event. Nice, historic, cozy home. More...

The Mary Gay House was the perfect venue for our wedding and the planning was stress-free and easy from beginning to end. Missy, the office manager, was a delight to work with and always responded immediately to our questions . The house has beautiful rooms and a lovely patio. The price was incredible, especially considering they have their own tables and chairs and don't require an alcohol package. For a small wedding, the venue can easily accommodate an inside or outside ceremony depending on weather, with various options for seating arrangements. The house can be easily decorated with your personal touch, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Our guests raved about the venue. More...

Our wedding at the Mary Gay House was amazing!!! We ended up with a guest count of 138 and were able to comfortable fit everyone for our seated/plated dinner with a combination of tables inside and on the patio. We even had a long estate table on the patio that turned out amazing! We actually did our ceremony at the park next door and that worked out perfectly. The only thing to double check is whether or not you have access to the basement- make sure you are certain of this b/c we had some issues day of until we pulled out our contract and then it was all good. Our guests stayed at the Courtyard Marriott right in downtown Decatur and it was super easy for everyone logistically with MARTA being right there and plenty of lyft/uber's around. We had our wedding at the Mary Gay House. When we were looking at different venues I immediately fell in love with the charm of the house and the main event space in the back of the house - lined with French doors and windows that let in so much natural light and gave amazing views. The venue changed management over the course of the year we were planning, but it remained a seamless experience. Our wedding was perfect - the venue was big enough for our guests (around 100) but small enough to feel cozy. Missy is super friendly and was very accommodating helping get everything ready to go for the big day. It's definitely worth a look if you're looking for an event space! More...

Not only was Missy, the house mgr. there from beginning to end, she came to the rescue and provided a projector when I forgot mine! In addition, prior to the event the patio was full of leaves and she made sure the patio was impeccable prior to the event. They have the perfect size facility for a small wedding. We provided the set up and tear down with the help of a few friends, and our deposit was returned promptly.

We chose to hsve the ceremony outside and the reception inside. It was easy for our guests to transition easily.

We chose two food truck vendors from their list and we loved them. My husband is a chef and was not to keen on having food trucks. But we found that they werevery reasonably priced and the guests loved the food.

The staff members were very friendly, accommodating, and went above and beyond to provide us with the information we needed—including offering suggestions based on their experience. It was great that the rental came with tables and chairs, working fireplaces, and access to the porch outside, as well as guided tours. It is a little disappointing that you can't provide food made by your family, but we are so happy to have ended up choosing Farm Burger from their recommended caterers list, which was amazing and delicious. What a wonderful place to host a small wedding. With their serene, picturesque back patio area and good-sized dining hall, they can accommodate parties of several dozen or more. We had our wedding reception at the Mary Gay House and it was outstanding. The wedding was at our church in the morning, then we came over for an indoor/outdoor fun and games reception catered by Farm Burger.

I dealt mostly with Elizabeth, the main contact there. From the moment I started planning and saw the space I knew it would be excellent. Elizabeth was super easy to work with and very helpful with suggestions, timelines, organization . . . all the stuff I didn't know because I'd clearly never planned a wedding before!

The day of the wedding things went off without a hitch. Brandon was there onsite if needed, but as far as I know everything went very smoothly.

One of the best things about this space is how "warm" it is, and how little decoration is needed if that's not your thing. We just had tablecloths and lots of bunches of very colorful flowers, and it was perfect.

I would hold another even at the MGH in a heartbeat!

We had our 60-person rehearsal dinner at the Mary Gay House, and it was more lovely than I could have imagined! Elizabeth was responsive, helpful, and flexible during the planning process. We worked with a "non-preferred" caterer because of the particular kind of food we wanted to serve, and she was a great resource for them.
Many of our guests were staying at the Marriott in Decatur, and they walked to the Mary Gay House. For in-town folks, there's plenty of parking across the street.
It was a beautiful night, so we used the lovely back patio for cocktails, and then came inside for dinner. We hardly decorated-- just some lanterns and candles, and it looked beautiful! The pictures are amazing. The only problem we had was that everyone was having such a good time that we didn't want to leave!

Elizabeth at the Mary Gay house was great to work with. She had lots of ideas and asked great questions that helped us think of things about the event that we may not have thought of on our own. A sign of good experience!
We had almost 70 guests at our reception, and the house was just the right size. Because of weather, we were unable to use the patio (sadly!), but that would have provided more space to spread out. Being limited to the inside of the house, I felt like we maxed the space out. Our caterer was able to fold up some tables after dinner to make more room for dancing afterwards. So, they have tables for 100 at the Mary Gay house, but I wouldn't recommend planning on more than 80 guests (for a sit-down meal) there, especially if you want space to move around, mingle and dance.

My husband and I were married at the Mary Gay House sixteen years ago on July 10, 1998.  We hadn't been back to the house since the wedding but we made a trip to Decatur earlier this Spring and stopped by for a visit.  Unfortunately, the house was locked so we couldn't go inside but we walked around outside.I am delighted and grateful that the Junior League has done such an outstanding job of upkeep on the property.  The grounds are immaculate and beautiful and the house appears to be in excellent condition.  I can see by the more recent photos that the inside has also been remodeled.  Capet has been replaced with wood floors and the salmon colored walls have been repainted with neutral tones.  It looks lovely!I have never regretted our decision to get married at the Mary Gay House.  The house was comfortable and definitely affordable for a charming and historic antebellum home (we actually had our wedding on a Friday night when the rental rate was cheaper and we got an extra day on our honeymoon to boot).  We had a DIY wedding on a tight budget but I felt that the house lent an air of sophistication to the proceedings.  It is elegant, yet comfortable.  There are lots of spots inside and out for unique photo opportunities.  The house is sparsely decorated so you can bring in your own ornamentation and temporarily give the place your own flair. Tables and chairs were provided so we didn't have to worry about renting them and our rental coordinator gave us a list of trusted caterers who were familiar with the facility and experienced in working events there.  Street parking for guests is convenient and free.We held the ceremony on the back patio and seated everyone inside for heavy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails.  There was plenty of room for dancing and the house never felt crowded with 100 people inside.  We used a room off the front parlor as the bridal chamber and that worked perfectly.  I was able to walk out the front door and around to the back patio without being seen before I walked down the aisle.       I have to believe that Mary Ann Harris Gay would be most proud to know that her home is well cared for and frequently used for happy occasions like weddings and parties.  So thank you, Miss Mary and Junior League of DeKalb County, for helping us create a special and memorable wedding.
