Last month  I came across a write-up In the OC Register which awarded Maro's Wood Grill, "Best Steak in Orange County". So being the carnivore that I am and since OC has quite a few options which makes that award even more impressive. ..I made it the next restaurant to give a visit too. Let me tell you my friends, I was NOT disappointed in the slightest!! From the very personable Chef, I believe his name is Emilio,  preparing my food in an open kitchen in front of me...to wiping up the plate with my last bite of steak...I couldn't have asked for a better experience!! Sunny Friday in Laguna Beach asks for a lunch out, and if you get early enough, you can even get a parking spot.What I loved about Maro was the experience, the music is upbeat, decor, chairs and seating are on point. But what I need to rave about is the service, Emilio was amaaazing! Always smiling and super pleasant he mad my work lunch, it is hard to find an employee like him.But wait, I wont forget about the food, the empanadas are very good.However, the show maker was the desert: the banana bread.Emilio suggested and I was like ( )Banana bread before brownie? before a chocolate cake? How does that makes sense?OH IT DOES! The banana bread is not that hard thing you are used to, it comes in a bed of a kind of milk with thin sugar on top. I tasted and felt my heart warmer. The chef and owner of Maro Grill treated my girlfriend and I to one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. Â This place is a gem and the food is amazing. Â I was a little hesitant to tell you all how great this place is so my favorite seat is not taken when I go back this weekend, but the local team running the place is so kind that I want them have all the success they deserve. On Vacation from the NJ, ended up stopping in for lunch while driving thru Laguna on PCH. Had the empanadas which were amazing. So of course we came back for dinner that night with some other friends. What an experience! The Chief Emilio prepared deliciousness for each one of us. It was the best steak I've had in quite a while. Not to mention the appetizers that were amazing. Don't forget about the deserts, what a way to finish off that meal. Emilio was able to go from one course to the next adding more and more delicious flavors. If you haven't been to Maro wood grill yet your are missing out. Thank you Chris for your wonderful service. ELast night we had the opportunity to sit and watch Emile make some of the most amazing cuisine. From the empenada sampler to the grilled veggies we were amazed by the attention to detail and flavors. The carpaccio and Shishito Peppers are a must as wellOur main course consisted of different steak cuts and some new grilled vegetables. It is difficult to find a Ribeye End Cap anywhere. When you can, you must! I could taste the quality inside every dish I have had here on the menu. The handmade empanadas and fresh local grilled vegetable apps are so much fun to share. The mesquite wood grill provides a cozy atmosphere for the bar with an open kitchen layout. It also adds seriously incomparable flavor to all the otlaguna beach steakhouses. Def a must visit and order the ribeye cap it's always the best. Wow had another fantastic meal at maro! Everything is always fresh and the service is flawless. Been here for dinner and always enjoyed it but came in for brunch on a Saturday and had one of the best meals EVER!!! One of the best, if not the best dinning experiences I've had. I prefer fish and chicken as my regular intake, but the ribeye Cap steak. .Amazing. Me and my fiancé just went out to dinner here for my 29th birthday. Food was tasty, FRESH, clean, and the atmosphere was so serene sitting outside  with the fresh air. The service was excellent and I felt like I was at home. Everything is organic and this is important to me, I actually feel good after eating here instead of having an upset stomach from other restaurants who use non organic food with chemicals. They do things right here. Tried for two days to get a table and finally wrangled a four top at a reasonable hour for the kids. We actually got there early and were seated immediately. The beef empanadas were great. My wife enjoyed the shishito peppers (not my taste at all but I did eat some). Â My son had the Maro burger. 8 oz of grass fed beef cooked to perfection. The baseball steak my wife ordered to split with the daughter was literally a baseball sized hunk of meat, again perfectly medium rare. I had the short ribs. Delicious! Service was good by the owner, only two tables for service for him so it wasn't bad service. Burger was ordered medium well and came out rare to medium rare which kinda dampened the dine. Our wedding reception at Maro was terrific! Hristo and the crew were perfect! All of our guests seemed to really enjoy themselves. Lots of smiling faces! The food was exceptional! Hristo came up with a special menu for us. My favorite was on it, the skirt steak with chimichurri sauce. he prepared 2 other options and a vegan veggie plate. I really love the Spanish octopus salad. The kitchen came up with a way to make it a hand held appetizer. It was delicious! Hirsto was an absolute pleasure to work with on the preparations for our event. He really cared and put forth his best effort to make sure the evening would go as planned... "Don't put off until tomorrow on what you could do today". Â Words we all need to live by. Having driven by this unassuming restaurant for years and never have stopped. Â WHAT A MISTAKE!! Â Dined here this evening and the food was EXCEPTIONAL... as well as the service. Alex couldn't have been a better host. Â The grilled prosciutto burrata with mixed beats was an exceptional appetizer and set the evening on the right note. Â Our party selected the roasted chicken, grilled salmon and skirt steak - WOW!!! Â Each order was cooked to perfection on their mesquite wood grille. Â It was time for dessert and Alex suggested the banana bread pudding...OMG!!! Â That dish alone would bring us back - voted the best OC dessert 3 years running! Ate dinner there on Dec. 30, 2018--it was my first time at Maro Wood Grill. It is a small restaurant with wonderful food. We started with one order each of empanadas and grilled artichoke, which were both very tasty . I had the grilled lamb chops with oven-roasted brussel sprouts. The lamb was expertly seasoned and had a great flavor from the wood grill. The sprouts had both great flavor and texture. My wife had the salmon and loved it. My daughter also had the salmon and said it was good but didn't give any detailed feedback. The menu that night offered 4-5 different steak cuts, beef short ribs, lamb, duck, and salmon, plus a few salads (and I can't remember what else). Originally I was going to get the short ribs but they were having a busy night and had run out. The lamb was an amazing 2nd choice but I cannot rate the beef since none of us had steak.Other notes: The main seating area is a covered patio that is enclosed and cozy in the winter, with electric heaters (I assume it's open-air in the summer.) They also have bar seating and 1 or 2 small tables indoors. There is a small parking lot in front with street parking available nearby. We had a great dinner and definitely plan to go back. Disclosure: my wife is friends with one of the owners. We paid for our entrees and drinks, which didn't receive any special preparation, but we got two free desserts, so I won't rate the service or the dessert.
