Lucille Buell Interior Design

I hired Lucille to help me make all of the nitty gritty detail decision with a major remodel. I love big bursts of color -- pink, yellow, lime, electric blue, etc. -- and I when I came to Lucille with the plea to help me make all of those colors work in a single home with a wide open floor plan where every room and wall is visual to the others, she tackled the request with grace and brought my dream to life with cohesion and and elegance.

In addition, I wanted to maintain the feel of my original house -- built in 1923 -- while making more modern improvements as we upgraded everything in the remodel. Lucille helped identify light fixtures, flooring options, plumbing, and more that weaved together the traditional 20's era feel with the look of today's modern.

We hired Lucille Buell in February 2014 as a designer-consultant to oversee the undertaking of a complete and total redesign of a home we had just purchased in Napa Valley. At the time we hired her we were still living in Minneapolis; so the duties she performed for us during the following year were both as a designer and as a project manager. The home we had purchased was 1500 sq. feet, was built in 1973, and in need of a total rebuild - floors, ceiling, electrical, plumbing, utilities, lights, etc. Lucille’s expertise was invaluable to us. She is a professional in every sense of the word. Her design skills are highly evolved. Her communication skills are excellent: she listens well and explains clearly. In a word …she is

Lucille Buell is a family friend who I have known all her life. Usually I steer away from using a friend but in this case, Lucille's temperament just told me it would work our well. ..and it did!
Lucille is very professional, thorough and thoughtful. From her suggestions and choices, I could tell that she listened very closely to what I liked and the look I was trying to achieve. When I turned down a choice from her, she never tried to talk me into it and instead made other suggestions. I have used Lucille for several interior design projects and remodelling from shelving, pantry design and build out, redesign of rooms ( she worked with my 16 year old daughter to change her little girl pink room to her new teenage redesigned bedroom), window seats, furniture purchase and reupholster and window coverings. Lucille also helped carpet and provide lighting in my business. She is currently helping me create with a favorite piece of art a custom made carpet runner for my main stair case. It is with pleasure that I write a recommendation for Lucille. We had the pleasure of having Lucille design the interiors for our home in Sun Valley Idaho. We had just completed another project in San Francisco and wanted to find someone who would truly listen to our requirements and at the same time let us know when we were getting off track, it is clearly a delicate balance. Lucille executed it with perfection.
The home in Sun Valley represents the beauty of the the inside, but as important was the need to incorporate the natural beauty of the outside. This integration, to our way of thinking was done in a perfect way.

In addition to her design eye, lucille was very sensitive to cost. She at ever turn made an effort to balance cost and design impact. I have worked with other designers that try to make you feel guilty for being sensitive to the bottom line, it is all part of a successful project and she executed brilliantly.

It has been a pleasure working with Lucille on the remodel of our wine country vacation home. She is currently helping us transform our enclosed 1970's- style home to a more open, modern home by updating the kitchen and baths, tearing down a wall between the family room/kitchen and living room and opening up the ceiling. Lucille's attention to detail, impeccable taste and resourcefulness made working with her on our home seamless. Lucille worked with us to decorate our home in Singapore while still living in the US.
