I have this place bookmarked for a while and finally gave it a try last Christmas eve. They were open till 3pm and there wasn't much people besides some that were picking up their orders. * The carrot cake was one of the best cakes I've had in a while - moist and baked to perfection. It was a big slice enough to share with another person.* Fudge brownie was a little too sweet but very generous amount. A little on the dense side but still good. I have to have an intense craving for it to finish the whole thing.* Matcha latte was decent. I don't see anything special about it.* Birthday cake latte was actually pretty good. It had the right amount of sweetness. I initially asked for a vanilla latte but they don't carry it but I would say it's very similar to one.And let's talk about the interior decor?! Finally had the pleasure of trying this place! Absolutely love! The place is smaller than I thought, but they have a ton of great choices. I love how you can have cake by the slice! We had the fruity pebbles cake and they even offer to warm it up to room temp. The cake was moist and delicious... not super rich, which I love. Delicious little coffee and dessert shop in Detroit. On the outskirts of what is still a very sketchy area but one that shows signs of Detroit's revitalization. A block from the very trendy Empire Kitchen and Cocktails, this establishment is, as the name suggests, a great place to indulge your sweet tooth while washing it down with a tasty cup of coffee. We ordered two fudge chocolate brownies and a caramel pecan cinnamon roll cake with hot chocolate, a coffee, a cappuccino, and a latte. $46 --- this place isn't cheap, folks --- but a very nice change of pace and everything was delicious. Frankly, the brownies can satisfy two normal people and so can the cinnamon roll servings. My suggestion --- make sure you have them warm up those servings --- absolutely delicious.This place is definitely a keeper for those times when in the vicinity of Little Caesar's Arena (walking distance). We ate at Bakersfield around the corner. The waitress recommended this place as it was a short walk away. Shared a giant cinnamon bun with amazing cream cheese frosting and took a big chocolate chip cookie home. Cute, bright decor and loved the themed tree ornaments. It's in a weird spot off of Woodward, and parking is annoying so definitely stop by after a walk around Midtown. The decor looks like a wedding magazine from the early 00's, so maybe just get your baked goods and leave. Vegan options are AMAZING :)

I went here with a friend as part of a Christmas Adventure downtown. He doesn't get downtown much and I was determined to show him something special. I had seen pictures of For the Love of Sugar and knew that the aesthetics had the wow factor I was looking for. When we arrived we found parking right on the street. The block surrounding this place has been rehabilitated and is very polished. The interior is a delicate balance of Tiffany blue, gray and white. It's is absolutely charming. I really enjoyed the giant cake window displays. My favorite thing from here are the cakes. I usually go for the rainbow, Matilda or banana cake and highly recommend trying the latter two microwaved with a glass of milk. Some of the best tasting cake I have ever had! Recently, my friend got married and hired For the Love of Sugar to bake their wedding cake. It was almost too pretty to cut into, with a personalized Batman and Batwoman as their toppers. Unlike other weddings, this cake also offered multiple flavors, forcing me to have to consume more than one slice. Each flavor was delicious and flavorful in their own way, but one that stood out the best was the red velvet, as that is a hard flavor to do well. As a bridesmaid, the cake was the highlight of the wedding and a great reward for all my hard work. Oh, how I wish I was eating another slice now. The best part of this place? There's no wrong choices! No matter what you order, it tastes absolutely AMAZING. From the adorable macaroons and five layer cakes, to the perfectly frosted sugar cookies and fresh cookies, everything is super scrumptious. Everything is also super Instagram worthy, so I'm really upset that I had taken a bite of every single thing we ordered before ever taking a picture - the perfect excuse to go back again soon! The store is perfectly decorated, and the staff seemed really nice. The woman working behind the counter on my visit was giving out samples ahead of me and was more than happy to recommend some macaroon flavors for me to take home for my friends. Hands down the best dessert place I've ever been to. Not only is the atmosphere warm and welcoming, but the desserts are absolutely out of this world! You can definitely see and TASTE that everything has been made by people who have a passion for baking. Their cakes are so unique, the macaroons are to die for, and they even offer gluten free and vegan options, so there's something for everyone! I used to come here all the time with my friend for the birthday cake cookie and macaroons. ....I came back recently and the recipe for the cookie changed..it's like less than half the size it usually is....I don't feel like I'm getting the same worth for my money anymore for the cookie since it's pretty pricey but before it was large so to me it was okay to swallow.The macaroons are great, I think this is what they are known for so I come here for gifts all the time. If the cookies were the same size they were prior I would be back weekly but until then I'll just continue to go to my new spot Detroit Cookie Company. We came from out of town and were looking for a place to indulge our sweet tooth. We were not dissappointed at all! The staff were friendly and quick. We dropped in for a sweet treat after dinner downtown and this place was buzzing with excitement and customers. I got a slice of the Matilda cake and it was every bit the rich, chocolatey, fudgy dream boat cake I hoped it would be. My husband scarfed down his Oreo cheesecake so fast he forgot to save me a bite! Our friends got the fruity pebbles cake and the rainbow layers were so bright and tasty and moist (only acceptable use of this word). I love this place and know I will be back again and again. As an expert on everything birthday cake flavored, you can trust me when I tell you that FLOS's birthday cake cookie is hands-down the best iteration of this sweet ever. Lovely interior, friendly staff, and beautiful macarons and cakes. We split an iced coffee; luckily I tasted it before adding cream or sugar, because that coffee was smoooooth, tasty goodness. Usually in bakeries, the coffee doesn't live up to the quality of the confections, but in this case, you could stop in just for a coffee and be delighted. This place is ADORABLE inside and out. The decor is so delightfully elegant and feminine. I love the colors and the chandeliers and AH I could just camp out there all day! ! There are so many different macaron flavors (fruity pebbles, birthday cake, Nutella, etc.) and the cakes are to die for!!! Matilda Cake is OUT OF THIS world.
