I was brand new to singing and have always been very embarrassed to sing even around friends and family. I wanted to learn the basics of singing and start the process of exploring my voice. Breonna was very helpful in getting me to do just that. She helped me learn different singing techniques, find the types of voices that are most natural for me, and helped me to start feeling more comfortable with my voice. Until I found rick rossi, improvising on jazz tunes was always a mystery to me. Rick, who is an elite teacher and coach of improvisation for woodwind players, is teaching me his system for how to improvise that works like magic. He teaches you how to hear target notes and uses rhythm and articulation studies to help you learn how to play by ear and how to be more focused when practicing. As a result, the mystery veil of improvisation is being removed from my eyes and I'm developing the skills to become very good at improvising on tunes. so if you are like i was and a veil is covering your eyes hindering you from learning to improvise on tunes. Call rick and he will remove that veil by teaching you his system of using approach notes and the basics of phrasing so that everything you play is musical. This approach really opens up your ears and will have you playing what you're hearing in your soul and when you are listening to recordings, you can really hear the chords and rhythms very clearly. I've always loved the violin. I went to my niece's music recital, and their school had an older gentleman who had been taking voice lessons and was brave enough to perform solo alongside the young students. The next day I Googled "music lessons in Los Angeles" and had a call out to Rick by the end of the business day. Rick immediately set me up with both a teacher (Xochitl) and a store for beginner violin rentals. I've been taking lessons from Xochitl for about 5 months now. Of course, it had to happen amidst the public health crisis, so I've had to switch to online classes. I wasn't sure this would be an effective way to learn violin, but honestly not much has changed. Xochitl is as fun as professional as ever, and I still feel my (limited) abilities growing despite not being face to face. I'm very grateful that I can continue my musical journey with Xochitl despite the quarantine. I am 32 with a highly stressful job, and I do not always have time to put in the practice that I should. However, Xochitl always finds something to praise, and never loses her patience with me. It is more appreciated than she probably knows - my piano teacher used to screech at me when I was young.Given that the violin is probably one of the most difficult instruments to play, I think it speaks volumes that in 5 months Xochitl has made it so engaging and accessible (particularly for an adult student like myself), that I went ahead and purchased one! I am looking forward to improving and highly recommend Rick and his team for anyone with even a shadow of a wish to play music. More...

Q&As

What I love most about being a music instructor at Los Angeles Music Teachers is about seeing the smiles from students when they are able to progress and get over hurdles. I love breaking down music difficulties into easy to digest pieces so that the student is led in a very smooth way to higher and higher levels of proficiency.

I love helping new students, no matter what age to experience the fun and excitement of playing music. I have taught all my life and I worked on all levels from private teaching to a professor in several colleges, but I knew that if I started my own school that I could pick the right teachers who know how to inspire students.

What makes our music school so unique is that our teachers are selected from the best of the best in Los Angeles. We only accept teachers who not only have a Masters in music but also must show that they are performers as well. We have a separate business to help our teachers get paid gigs doing special events and studio dates, so all of our teachers understand the importance of applying music teaching to the real world of music and making music fun by customizing to each students individual tastes in music.

Yes, we have been teaching on Zoom for over 7 years and currently still teach most of our students who joined us during Covid on Zoom because they love the convenience and because it works. We've adapted the whole learning experience so that the students don't feel like they are missing anything by learning their instrument online.

We have large rooms with lots of windows for breeze to enter. We require 6 feet distance from the student unless the teacher and student have both been vaccinated. All of our teachers teaching in person are vaccinated.

Services

We have 3 amazing voice teachers. All of them have Masters degrees in Voice Performance and Education.
