What a great little cupcake place! The shop is small but the place is full of flavor. I tried four different cupcakes. The lemon cupcake was the best even thou the peanut butter cupcake was delicious. With family in town we decided to get a sample of several local cupcake bakeries and do a comparison. We did our own taste testing. We tried Georgetown cupcakes, Sprinkles, Alexandria cupcake and Lavender Moon. By far Lavender Moon won against the competition. So creamy, moist, and packed full of flavor. This place has the most amazing coconut cupcakes I have ever had. The icing is sublime and the cake is just the right amount of moist. Their biggest flaw is that they hardly ever have this cupcake because it is "special." The interior is also pretty creepy. There are a lot of cupcakes in the DMV area and it's worth the trek out to Old Town Alexandria for these gems. Lemon curd is my favorite. Yes, I know there is personal taste and preferences when it comes to these things (ratio of icing to cake, texture of icing, sweetness level, flavor combos, spongey vs crumbly cake), but this place hits all the marks for me. All the icings pretty much are cream cheese based (I think) and being from the south, I don't really know why this hasn't caught on. Found this little spot on my adventures in old town. One of the cons is parking. There were spots behind the building but it's very risky, get towed at your own risk. The inside decor was a cool little concept. The menu with the daily flavors are listed which gives insight to what's available. I ordered a half dozen, I will say the price is kinda high but you get what you pay for. The reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is due to parking and the fact my cupcakes tasted more like jiffy mix. So I basically ate cornbread with good frosting lol good concept but as I got into the rest of the batch I didn't have the wow factor lol....I would recommend this though to friends as a must try due to others having different taste buds. What a cute place with some really delicious cupcakes. We stumbled upon this place and I am a cupcake fiend. Walking in the woman working was so happy and so helpful. She gave us a rundown of what they had available and both her favorites and the customer favorites. We opted for a box of four which included smores, strawberry dipped in chocolate, peanut butter dipping in chocolate and Boston cream. I think my favorite for sure was the Boston cream, it was filled with pastry cream and absolutely delicious. The cupcakes themselves were very moist and flavorful. My least favorite was the smores, I think the topping was a little under whipped. When I took a bite it fell flat and got a little soggy. I would absolutely come back if in the area! Hey what's the value of a little cupcake before a giant lamb burger? Immense, I say. We were on our way to O'Connells in Old Towne. And decided why not cleanse the palette with a hummingbird. The banana pineapple icing was moist and creamy. The cake nutty but could be better. 4 stars because by 6:30pm on. Thursday night the business had near run out of all cupcakes except hummingbird and the owner seemed a little surprised to see us at her store!! We found her cleaning and perhaps closing down for the day. Which seemed odd because the hours ran till 8pm. But i guess understandably. Other than that we of course would like to visit again. I am very impressed with Lavender Moon! I wanted to have cupcakes delivered to a co-worker who was leading a group trip in Virginia (we are from CA). Lavender Moon was more than happy to have someone deliver my order to a local hotel. After an address snafu (on my end), the delivery location ended up being much further from the shop than I realized. I called the shop, let them know my error, and asked if they needed to cancel the order or charge me an additional fee for the delivery. They insisted they would stick to the original price and still make the delivery even though it was outside of their regular delivery area.On top of all of that, my co-worker and others who enjoyed the cupcakes raved about them! The cupcakes here are some of the best cupcakes I have ever had! I love the texture and the frosting isn't overly sweet. I came here on Saturday afternoon and there was a line but it moved quickly. The person behind the counter was very sweet and patient. I love the buttermilk cupcake with the Mexican chocolate pudding filling and the Pinot Noir-cherry-chocolate cupcake. Very cute and rustic interior design. Tried 4 cupcakes between the BF and I (don't judge...). The flavors we tried was lemon chiffon, Boston cream, vanilla bean lemon curd, and bourbon pecan. All the flavors were very good and true to its name. But most of the cake part was pretty dense and I prefer them to be fluffier. We ordered a dozen cupcakes to bring to a friends dinner. Most of them are very good. There are no artificial ingredients in it which was great to hear. They have a limited amount of flavors and because there are no signs on the cupcakes telling you what they are, the poor girl behind the counter had a repeat herself with each customer that came in on what everything was. While visiting from NC to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday, she said she wanted a cupcake instead of a birthday cake. I guess she knew I couldn’t put a lot of candles on a cupcake. One of our fellow Yelpers wrote great things about this place and highly recommended it, so I decided to go one day to see what I was missing out on. Boy was I glad because their cupcakes were sooo rich, velvety, and absolutely delectable!I got the following flavors: pistachio (with lemon?), vanilla (my absolute fave!), s'mores (I think?), and blood orange (different, but good!). My number one choice would have to be the vanilla one--simple, yet perfect in taste! My second would have to go to the blood orange one because it was a pleasant surprise in taste. The s'mores and pistachio are a tie; just because they're last, that doesn't mean they weren't good, because they were! It's just that the vanilla one was THAT good (to me) and the blood orange was unique.They are a bit pricey, but worth it! P.S. There are some street parking near this cute shop.
