Lavender Bakery & Cafe'

At the beginning of my pregnancy I was craving French napoleon , randomly googled it and found this amazing bakery ! The chef is incredibly talented , the employees are always smiling, patient and ready to help and answer any question or concern .

Came in with some friends the other day and we loved it!! We ordered a bunch of pastries because there were plenty of options, and I particularly loved this one (the little chocolate thing on the top was SO good). I'm also happy that the prices were reasonable for how well made and delicious they were -- we're college students on a budget, but we were able to enjoy more than just one pastry here! Fresh pastries with an impressive variety! Staff is kind and respectful and fast! Reasonably priced! Nice furniture and clean throughout! This place is DELICIOUS !  I really cant pick and choose what is good here anything you choose will be great. We came in to try out a couple desserts/cookies and ended up placing a large order for an event. Love love love this bakery. Aesthetics and food 100% on point Food: I've tried a lot of different crossaints and small dessert things and they are all super amazing. Also, I'm usually not a big fan of coffee but their coffee and drinks here are amazing. A very nice cafe to hangout at or just get treats to go! The atmosphere is very friendly and calm, as well all the desserts look beautiful and taste amazing! Some of my personal favorites are the shortbread and oatmeal cranberry cookies and chocolate mousse desserts. Disclaimer: I have only had coffee and/or tea here, so my review is based on what I have tried.This cafe is one of the best in North Berkeley. It is very spacious, clean and bright (lots of natural light). Just to get an idea, compare it with Peet's or Starbucks across the street! It's a perfect place for studying and hanging out. The staff is very friendly.They offer food and also a wide variety of cake options, though I haven't tried any of those and so I cannot comment on them. It gets very packed during lunch time. I ordered a guava Cream Cake for my wife's baby shower. Response and ordering process was very easy - manager/owner Ali were supper helpful, accommodating and responsive. We picked up the cake on the day of the event - this is the first time we didn't have any leftover cake . It was flavorful and truly yum. Only one complain it was little dry. Lavender Bakery & Cafe is my new go-to place for daily computer work away from the house and an easy walk from Hopkins, where we live. The bakery is spacious, light, and elegant with a friendly owner and staff,  delicious croissant  and Mexican wedding cookies, and a wonderful freshly made half salad that I tried the other day. The first thing I ordered on my first visit was the palmier. I used to eat something similar in Japan called unagi pie but these are way better.  Since then , I've tried quite a few of the delicacies offered and have never been disappointed.  The owner and staff are friendly.  The chef is a culinary genius.  Cakes are always available for your next party and they even refill your coffee.  I imagine there's a lot of work involved in creating such a magical place so my suggestion to locals is to skip Starbucks and Peet's and get your coffee and pastry from Lavenders. Their Burnt Almond cake is amazing - not too sweet and very moist. It's a white sponge cake with a layer of chocolate sponge in the middle (both literally melt in your mouth). There are two layers of custard enveloping the chocolate sponge layer and the cake itself is covered in cream and candied almonds. My mom ordered this for my birthday and they placed this beautiful chocolate heart with frosting on it. Even the chocolate heart was DELICIOUS. This is my neighborhood bakery and so happy they are open early for me to pick up goodies for my office every week. Their pastries are freshly made and their chocolate croissants is a must-try! The food from here is absolutely delicious. I've had a range of dishes from savory to sweet and I can tell you that everything I've had so far has been some of the best food I've had. So many tasty options!! Decided to check out Lavender on a Sunday afternoon, after having lunch down the street from the bakery. The display of all the pastries/ tarts/ cakes looks really inviting. After much contemplation decided to get the blueberry tart and the almond croissant with a cafe latte. Also got a chocolate croissant, hazelnut chocolate cake to go. The tart had a lovely crust with a sweet custard and beautiful glazed blueberries. The croissant was so almond-y (and not the weird artificial flavoring kind) and so flaky. We ordered the desserts for our wedding with Lavender Bakery (LB). We live close to Solano and were interested to check out the new bakery on the corner. Ali, the owner of LB, met with us for a tasting. He let us try many of the desserts without a tasting fee (though we bought some cupcakes to go!) and he helped us to imagine how we might do petit fours-- or half size versions-- of the desserts on display. We went with LB because the desserts were delicious and Ali was so kind!  We ended up going with the chocolate opera, napoleon bar (with hazelnut praline), an assortment of tarts, a small "symbolic" cake, and an assortment of macarons as a gluten-free option. Our guests enjoyed the desserts and so did we!The only qualms we had were that it appears that the small cake we ordered did not arrive and that it took a while to procure a final contract. After the first contact, we had some changes to the dessert order as we had less guests than we had originally imagined, and my husband thought most of our guests wouldn't want lemon tarts. We reduced the quantity of lemon tarts and added on blueberry tarts, which I think added some confusion. It took around two weeks to procure the correct and revised final contract, which may have been due to poor communication on my end, but made it a bit frustrating to finalize the dessert order for our wedding. Overall we recommend LB for weddings. The desserts are great and LB was flexible with our requests for the wedding. The only issues were a missing item and a prolonged round of communications to finalize our order.FYI for those considering LB for your wedding, the dessert trays in the pictures attached (photographer-- Cherlyn Wagner) were our own that we ordered through amazon-- I am not sure how common it is for bakeries to have these displays on hand, but LB did not have this equipment available. This is a great bakery for normal pastries, cookies and cakes - my favorite is the napoleon which is flakey and has really tasty cream inside. I special ordered a princess cake for an event I was having.  This was a larger cake for about 40-50 people and it was ready on time, and someone even helped me bring it out to my car.  The cake tasted even better than what they have in the shop!  It was moist and the filling was really good, I could barely stop myself from eating 3 slices.  I'd definitely recommend this bakery to anyone in the area. I really appreciated the customer service at Lavender Bakery & Cafe, and their intentionality with giving recommendations with pastries to try. I got to try a vanilla macaroon while I was here and I loved the texture along with the flavor. I'm looking forward to trying a lot of the flavors when I go back!The tiramisu is to die for. It's some of the best tiramisu I've had in the Bay. It was so rich and extremely flavorful. We ordered a wedding cake and a petit four dessert station from this place for my brother's wedding 9/21/19. From the beginning, I worked with Ali, the store manager. He was awesome, easy to work with and very accommodating. Answered all my questions thoroughly. Helped with cake tasting with parents as they were the only ones locally available at that time.
