Fantastic fancy French dining experience in Brookline.   We went there on a Saturday night, had a reservation and got seated immediately. The place is relatively small, but was only about half full. The food was all delicious. We ordered The Betterave ( beat+goat cheese salad), beef bourguignon, duck with sweet potato and blueberry sauce, and a creme brulee. More...

We went for a New Year's Eve birthday, and were not disappointed. We ordered from the regular menu, through prix fixe was also available. Food and wine were delicious, service was nonintrusive and diligent, all the folks we had interactions with were pleasant. Cost was actually lower than we expected. More...

We've been to La Voile in Brookline a number of times. The restaurant is warm, cozy, and not at all noisy. The food has always been very good. The servers are friendly and have been helpful in describing dishes accurately and in selecting wines. We have gone to La Voile with other couples and with a party of ten and uniformly the reactions have been very positive. It's a special place. More...

Eventhough this was for an anniversary and not acknowledged by any staff, the experience was a lovely one. Mid week so not very busy, but attentive, polite and friendly staff. Specialty Drinks were very tasty. Apps, escargot and muscles saffron sauce were delicious. Main dishes were very good, scallop and lobster was a nice portion. Beef stroganoff was not great, only because sauce was a bit washed by a wine or sherry of some type, but portion was of value as was the entire meal by French cuisine standards. No dessert this time around, but from the view of the patrons next to us, it look scrumptious More...

I have now been to La Voile about 4 times now and felt like now would be a great time to write my review. This is a two-fold interview. One for their food and another for using their event space upstairs (we had our wedding on the top floor). Of my four visits, only one of them was meh (on Valentine's day). More on that below. Overall definitely recommend coming here.Food: This was the first place that I enjoy ordering salad at LOL. My wife is shocked. The "la roquette" and "les tomates" are incredible; we had eaten these before and had featured them in our wedding menu. I now order the la roquette every time I go. The combination of sweet (watermelon and melon) with salty (pine nuts and prosciutto) are fantastic. The bass entrée is de-boned right in front of you at the table, and is solid, however the duck is delicious. The one exception to this was on Valentine's day where it seemed a bit rushed. The place was absolutely packed you couldn't move anywhere. Other notable food items are the fries (incredible), the foie gras (best from a French restaurant in Boston), the risotto (I recommend getting it as a side dish) and the table baguette is really good too, but that's to be expected. I heard good things about the ribeye, but I haven't had it myself.Drinks: Their beer selection features some great beers like LaChouffe and Saison Dupont, however all are a bit on the pricier side. I think 1664 is their only modestly priced beer. Also, please add your beer and cocktail list to your website!! The cocktails thus far are hit or miss and I've noticed a frequent shift in their bartenders on site. The lavoile is good, as well as a spicy drink (can no longer recall the name) that was on the menu, but most other drinks weren't that great. Service: The service here has been spectacular and this goes for both during a regular dining experience and for the event experience. Most if not all of the waitstaff speak French, and are very attentive. During the wedding, they didn't let anyone's glasses reach half empty. Jerome, the manager, was very accommodating with our wishes for the space as well.Ambience/Décor: The restaurant gives off a very classy vibe and can definitely feel very romantic. There is a space upstairs and downstairs. On valentine's day the restaurant was very crowded and you could practically touch elbows with the table next to you, however on all of my other occasions, spacing hasn't been an issue. The upstairs can be used for a private function space, which is what we did, and was able to accommodate 65 people. There was a bar upstairs as well.Overall I will be coming back to La Voile; however, not on Valentine's day. More...

If you're in Boston visiting naturally people recommend you go eat Italian food.  But as I'm surfing Yelp in my hotel room for food recommendations for a memorable dinner I landed on this jewel of a restaurant.  Reservations were easily made on Open Table, and off in an Uber I went to enjoy dinner!  And what an enjoyable experience it was.  This restaurant is tucked below street level, so when you are at the address you have to go down the stairs to find the entrance.  Inside it was a cozy space.  So cozy, you feel like you're sharing a table and dinner with your neighbors, but the food was so excellent I would go back again in a heartbeat.  My boyfriend and I both did the "Taste of France" with the ribeyes. We have always enjoyed the food and ambience at la Voile. However, on this past visit the day after Thanksgiving, while three of the four of us enjoyed their meals as usual, one of us ordered the special entrée, which was a duck and turkey stew with white beans. This proved to be exceedingly dry, and lacked any form of liquid which one would’ve expected in a stew. This dish also came in a crock with no accompaniments. Perhaps we should have complained at the time. More...

Intimate. Casual.  Warm and welcoming. Excellent food and drink. Great service.  A little hidden on a sub floor of a building on Boston's famed Newbury St, this small French restaurant has a delightful menu with the flavors as warm, complex, and inviting as I remember from the Parisian restaurants I have frequented on many occasion during business travel to Europe.  We didn't have a dinner reservation so sat at a bar table and still had a great experience.  Perfect place for a colder evening, where you can relax in the warmth and intimacy of an excellent French restaurant waiting to warm you with the many fresh and flavorful dishes. Hard to rate this night at less than 5 stars. My husband ranked it as "the best meal this year". Nothing innovative, but superbly prepared traditional bistro fare. Unfortunately, the entree course was served a little too cold and arrived with the amuse bouche. The boeuf bourguignon was the best ever! Perfectly prepared, always a favorite. My son and I will definitely come back. The sooner, the better. From the moment we entered, we were greeted and provided complete service. We each ordered from the $44 three course Prix Fixe menu. My son ordered the French onion soup for his starter, and the duck for his entree. I ordered the leek and truffle quiche for my starter and the trout for my main dish. The onion soup brought us right back to France. It was even topped with Comte cheese! We also both loved the quiche which was delicately infused with truffle oil (I find that this is too heavily infused dishes almost everywhere else in the U.S.).My son ordered the duck medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. I ordered the trout whole. It arrive almost whole (no tail) and deboned. Everything was delicious. La Voile has a unique by the glass wine list which was also appreciated! For dessert, we both ordered the molten lava cake which was served with vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries. We found out only as we were leaving that our wonderful server Wilson was on his third day working at La Voile. We would never had known, as his service was so warm and professional! Thanks to all for such a lovely dining experience! More...

Nice little spot in the heart of Black Bay. They have a small patio and we were lucky having a nice day in fall sitting outside for lunch with some sunshine. Service is very friendly and very french. Probably they should pull out some tables on the patio - you really have not a lot of room to move your chair. But the great day, good food and friendly service making up for it. They have a small but very good selection of wine by the glas. I had the 'Moules Frites' (mussels) just making my day. My wife had the Risotto which they made with some saffron. Good thing with the 'French' they know how to make good coffee - coffee good all is good. Great little spot would always go back again. More...

I've eaten at La Voile in Brookline 5 times and have always had a good experience. The food has always been good...Dover sole, sea bass, salmon, duck breast, entrecote, all done well. Service can be a little hit-or-miss when it is busy...you may have to ask for bread refills, and once the server forgot to bring bread with the appetizers  - you will want bread with the mussels. But the servers have always been cheerful and pleasant and the place is small enough that it is not hard to catch their eye. Some of the tables are quite close together, so if you are going as a couple and want privacy, it may not be the best choice -though any restaurant in this mid-price range in Brookline, Cambridge, or Boston is likely to be similar. Some tables do have more privacy so you could probably ask for that in making a reservation. I enjoy eavesdropping so for me it is not a big deal. I think the prices are very fair for well-cooked dishes with good ingredients. The wine list is extensive and also quite reasonably priced...only a modest markup compared to what you'd pay for the same wines in France, with lots of good choices in the $45-60 range. More...

Someone who lives in the area recommended this quaint restaurant to us, and I had to write a review after dining there. It was by far one of the best meals I've had in such a long time! ! Please excuse my gushing review! I am usually reluctant to order a prefix menu, but every single thing on it was something that I would have ordered anyway, and the price was remarkably reasonable. The salad was the best combination of flavors, with dried cranberries, sliced beans, and sliced peaches around the plate. On top was a slice of bread with the most unbelievable cheese with herbs and melted on top. I actually told the waiter to tell the chef that it was the best salad I have ever had!My main course was sliced duckling in a thick cherry sauce, including the cherries, with potatoes au gratin. My husband had sliced steak and chose fries which were so crispy and delicious I had to keep snagging some from him. But then there was the desert. OMG!! It was a molten lava torte, which they called a cake so I almost didn't order it. But if you're a chocolate lover this is the way to go. All in all, no complaints! More...
