Absolutely love this little place! The chicken Sorrentino is fantastic! Sometimes it is hard to get a table, so its best to go for an early or late dinner. Will be coming back!

I really enjoyed my meal here on Friday night. The food and drinks are fantastic, but it's the staff that really put the meal above excellent. First off, I had a blackberry margarita. It was divine - not syrupy like others I've had in the past. We had the stuffed mushrooms, topped with a light tomato sauce. The piccola and Caesar salads came next - outstanding and fresh. My friend had fettuccine with shrimp and mushrooms and I had gnocchi bolognese - both fresh and flavorful. The prices are great too! Please visit! More...

On a recent visit to New York, I was desperate to find a place that would do spaghetti all'aglio e olio. I searched many menus online, and it was never listed. As we walked by la Piccola Cucina, I impulsively went inside and walked back to the kitchen. They told me they could make it for me. We ate there not once, but three times. The aglio and olio was fantastic, especially with a bottle of great savignon blanc. My husband tried something different each time, and especially enjoyed one of their chicken dishes. We will definitely return if we make it back to NYC. Great service and wonderful food. Endless gratitude to the chef! More...

This small but cozy hide away would get 5 stars if they'd change the accompanying side for the Chicken Parmesan.  It is ALWAYS zucchini as a side.  You can get spaghetti and sauce but for veggies, zucchini is all that is offered.  To the owner of this restaurant, PLEASE THROW IN SOME POTATOES WITH CARROTS OR SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE BORING AND BLAND ZUCCHINI!  Chicken Parmesan should be accompanied by different veggies, even if just one potato and carrot!  That Zucchini has to go! Pleasantly surprised. I stumbled across this place. This place is very small and quaint. The tables and chairs are adorned with a Semi-fancy cover, which really does nothing for the place. ..but the food is amazing. I mean really, really good. Fresh mozzarella,  fresh bread. I had the Caesar Salad, Shrimp Parmigiana, each bite melted in my mouth. It was cooked to perfection. My friend had the Rigatoni Shrimp, which she explained was a combination of ummm and awwwww. The waiter was awesome. If you're looking for good food, minus the fancy, this is the place to go. I would definitely go back. More...

Very small nice restaurant . Came here with my family during Easter. Luckily they were able to accommodate us . While sitting down a lot of people were turned away because all the tables were filled . I highly recommend making a reservation . The food was pretty good . The pasta was a little too al dente for me , next time I would ask for softer noodles . The flavor was just a tiny bit bland , I used salt and pepper to up the flavor . It's a little pricey (meals cost $24-30). Seafood was very fresh and delicious . I will be back :) More...

This place is tiny but the food is pretty good and I definitely like the intimate vibe (though winter is not the time to come here since it was brutal the evening I went and every time the door opened, cold air blasted throughout the place).  I also like that they had a coat rack to place your big winter coat.  A definite good Italian place in this area; I'm not sure if I found it or if the friend I went with did. I've been to this place many times over the years, and it really never disappoints. It's an intimate space, with great food and great service, what's not to love? !  Definitely check this place out if you are in the area and have a hankering for Italian. It seems there is a high demand for take-out given the amount of times their two delivery guys passed through over the time it took to eat a single dinner last weekend, but I've never ordered the take-out so I can't speak to that. One thing I can say, - the kitchen is spotless (you have to go through the kitchen to get to the bathroom). More...

The food is very flavorful and the waiter service was great! The reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is for two "rules" they have that we did not see online and thus were not aware of: 1) There is a required minimum of $15 per person, so if you and your partner were looking to share one plate (the portions are big enough to do so), you can't. 2) They won't split card payments unless the bill totals at least $60 - just some tips to know before you eat there. I would definitely eat here again as we enjoyed the food, but it would have been nice to know this going in as a first time customer! More...

I almost don't want to write this review, because I want to keep this hidden little gem all to myself. But, what kind of sport would I be if I didn't share this fantastic place with fellow yelpers? We came here for dinner on a whim on a random Monday night and were lucky enough to have the entire place all to ourselves. Our server brought out warm bread for the table, and some of the pieces had olives toasted into it. To die for. I ordered a margarita because it's my signature drink, and wasn't really thinking about what sense it made to order one from an Italian restaurant. Big mistake, but other than that, everything was fantastic. We ordered our entrees and couldn't have been more satisfied. The entire place probably seats 20 people at most. Came here with a small group of friends for a casual birthday dinner. The place is small, easily missed, but should not be if you're looking for simple but quality Italian fare. I had the chicken monte bianco with pasta, which was fairly sized for what I paid (~$20, no wine), and delicious, though I don't often eat Italian food. The place really is quite small; no tables larger than 5, and the whole place probably only sat at most 20.The benefit of the cozyness is the attention to service. The waiter personally served us bread and cheesed our dishes, which I suppose is standard for Italian restaurants, but seemed a nice touch for the not terribly expensive price. More...

This is most definitely a hidden gem. Why experienced New York diners say hidden is because we have walked these streets for years and never had even a hint that this restaurant was tucked away in there. There is not much to bring attention to the restaurant itself, very easy to walk by as we did many times. Thanks to Yelp we tried this quaint Italian restaurant and will definitely be back. We had ordered several entrees and took it to go. The dining area is small but pleasant. Our experience with the staff was cordial and prompt. The restaurant was clean and tidy but the five stars is all for the cuisine. Our meal was terrific. The olive bread was amazing. This is real Italian food. Just ate here for A last minute Valentine's date. We were asked if we had a reservation(which I thought was odd at 9pm with only 3 tables seated), but we were still seated right away without one. This 16 seat "hidden gem" is truly a great dining experience. Is it the most inventive cuisine? No, but it is so well done and so familiar I immediately fell in love. We ordered a bottle of wine, the mussels (so well cooked), and also the chicken Marsala and chicken with artichoke and a white cheesy sauce. Even though we were almost the last table we never felt rushed. The cheesecake was ok-I'm a pastry chef so I know it wasn't homemade and very grainy. I was also given a rose at the end of the meal, which I thought was a nice touch for the holiday. I think everything is well priced. Around $100 for date night isn't bad when it's a special occasion. I like La Piccola Cucina--I really do!...but every time I leave here for dinner, I always leave with the same thought in mind: That place is so weird. Others have called it a hidden gem, and I don't disagree. I guess I'm just puzzled on why it's still hidden--it's located on a fairly active block just a few storefronts down from the always-full Thai Market. Inside, it's small, almost stifling. This is not your typical "hole in the wall", however. La Piccola Cucina has white tablecloths, high backed chairs, salad forks, and just "feels" fancier than you would expect. The food is almost always wonderful--classic Italian, large portions, fantastic olive bread. I like to share the caesar salad and eggplant parm with my partner--more than enough food for two. For dessert, try (and adore) the chocolate mousse. Service suits the decor--polite, attentive, you'll want for nothing. Because there is rarely more than one other table eating when we are, service can even be a bit over-attentive, but I think that's silly (and a little Goldilocks) to complain about. Why, you wonder, is La Piccola Cucina so damn odd? I suppose it's the anomaly of finding a good, reasonably priced restaurant In New York City that has maybe 7 tables and is just about always empty. As a result, it's quiet--too quiet, sometimes. I guess I can't pin down the precise reason, but if you go--and you should go--you too might inexplicably feel the same. More...
