It had been decades since I have lived in Las Cruces, but knew I wanted to have some great Mexican food while traveling through town. So glad my wife found this on Yelp. Had a combination plate so I could get a little bit of things I had been missing for sooo long. Everything was quite tasty. Not a fancy place, but the food was great, and the portions, good sized. Now I want to move back to Cruces. LOL More...

La Nueva Casita Cafe was established in 1957 and definitely has some classic small town charm to it. I ordered the Tacos Estrellas (the "star tacos"), which were really good with the chef special recipe pork and beef in the soft corn tortillas. There were also some other standard taco ingredients in there, and all were high quality. The soft tortillas were a tad hard in a few spots though (maybe slightly over-cooked). The 3 tacos came with a side of beans and squash soup, which I chose - I liked the squash soup in particular, as it was a healthy yet tasty side. $12.50 for these 3 tacos and sides was a pretty good deal. I also tried the Chimichanga Bandera, which was pretty good and not as fried/oily as some others I've had before. $12 for this was also pretty good value. To drink, I got the Horchata, which was a tasty classic recipe and only $3.The restaurant is kind of in a residential area and looks more like a normal house from the outside. The interior of the restaurant has some unique decor like some large portraits and a big old music player of some sort. It has a cozy, homey atmosphere and was pretty busy on a Friday night. Still, we were able to get a table right away. There is some parking available next to the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The service speed was pretty fast.Overall, I am giving La Nueva Casita Cafe a very solid 4/5 stars. I would definitely recommend this local favorite if you are looking for an authentic local spot for Mexican / New Mexican cuisine in a homey environment. More...

This was our first time to eat in New Mexico so I had to pick the appropriate cuisine. We've visited Cloudcroft before which is in New Mexico but we always brought a picnic with us. This time, we were going to eat local. Our city of choice was Las Cruces. Our destination was clearly going to be La Nueva Casita Cafe, the most unique and highly rated local spot in town!By luck, we arrived after the lunch rush and were seated in only minutes! I was concerned because the entire parking lot was full but a table popped open very quickly! Our waitress offered the obligatory chips and salsa but.. they were an excellent start to our meal! Crunchy, salty, spicy and delicious! We over ordered but there was so much to try and the prices are insanely low based on our east coast standards. Chili Rellenos, with multiple sides, are like $10. For real!We got nachos with green chilis (an extra $.50), quesadilla with green chilis (another $.50) and chili rellenos made of, you guessed it! Chilis! We also ordered green chili con carne, fideos and calabasitas, because we've never tried these dishes! And, we got a horchata to drink!Everything came out pretty quickly and tasted amazing! I now know and understand that New Mexico green chilis are fantastic with everything! Great flavor and a very slight amount of heat! They are safe for everyone! Also, we will make calabasitas at home since this vegetarian dish is a great taste explosion! Our service was great and the total price was $46 for everything! Incredible! I tipped 25%. If you've never tried green chilis, come here! Life is good with delicious local green chilis! More...

Always friendly staff, food is good and still reasonably priced in this economy. I love that you can get fideos and borracho beans as a side instead of the old refried beans and rice. It's a nice change of pace and as far as I know the only Mexican restaurant that does this. More...

I am in a stupor this place was so durn good! I had flautas with barracho beans and rice, spouse had mesilla chicken with green chili rice, and yea I tried it. I was blown away by it all. The salsa was spot on what my grandma used to make, flautas were rolled tight and cooked nice and crispy and packed with flavorful tender meat. The rice. Yes the rice. The rice tasted like New Mexico. Both styles of rice did, even though they had completely different profiles. All I can say is I think I'm still in a stupor. The quality of so many places has gone down since 2020 while the prices skyrocket, but I just got a spark of hope back. More...

While visiting the area I knew this was going to be a must try for me and I it did not disappoint! Believe the hype because this place is serving up amazing authentic home style New Mexican food! The interior was very cute and nicely decorated with a welcoming feeling and the staff was too notch! We went around brunch on a Saturday morning and only had to wait a few minutes, we arrived right on time because by the time we were done it was very busy but so worth the wait! I had the Chile tells o omelet and my kids had the chorizo and eggs! Let me tell you my daughter had the borracho beans as a side and we could've been happy just eating that because they were smacking! More...

We stopped to eat at this restaurant after our trip to white sand national park. The staff here is super friendly, warm and welcoming. They did a great job making suggestions on what to get. I really appreciate that especially if ai am at a new place. They offer complimentary chips and salsa! I love when a place does that. Their salsa was chunky and great spice level. We had at least 2 rounds of it lol. I initially ordered chimichanga bandera plate but omg a long hair strand came out of my food. I was so devastated and obviously could not eat it. I spoke to the waitress on the side and they gave me a different plate. I ended up getting the Lichas combination plate and not going to lie was a bit guarded. Thankfully no hair found in the second plate. I was so hungry and enjoyed it. The place is spacious and allows for group seating easily. It was not too busy when I went there or loud. There is a parking lot for parking and plenty of street parking available. The prices were reasonable for the portion of food you get. More...

Thanks to Yelp, we decided to give it a try! It was so cute, our waitress was the sweetest girl and the food was delicious! I had the Chile Relleno plate with a green sauce on one and a red sauce on one (per waitress's recommendation). They were both so good, but the red sauce was my favorite. My husband had the Tacos Australia plate and he was only going to eat 1 taco, but they were so good, he ate all 3.Definitely a must try while in Las Cruces! More...

I finally went to dine in and was not disappointed. The interior is very clean and the decor is appealing. They also have a good running air conditioner, which is a HUGE plus this time of year. I have walked out of a few restaurants because they can't keep the place cool during the summer. My wife got the Tostadas Compuestas and couldn't finish her meal so I had the leftovers for lunch the next day. They were still wonderful after reheating. My favorite there is the beef taco plate so I ordered that again they did not disappoint at all. I usually don't finish my beans and rice but here I always do. There's some of kind spice in the Spanish that puts it over the top and above all others. The salsa could use a little more heat in my opinion but the flavor is on point. I'll be going back soon to try more menu items but it will be hard to stray from the beef tacos. I'd be willing to bet everything on that menu is worth ordering. One of the only bad reviews I noticed was a person from Brooklyn, NY complaining that it was too spicy. LOL! If you are from Las Cruces spicy is good thing. More...

Small unassuming building in the heart of "Old" Downtown LC. This place still feels like the 60s and 70s inside and thats a good thing. Friendly servers, chips served in a metal pale like kids used to use at the beach? OK...Hot sauce is good. First timers tried the Licha's Plate and it was solid...Enchiladas and rellenos were standouts, taco was on par with Roberta's and was good but chile con carne was chewy. Overall 4 stars but certainly not a #1 in the town sort of place. The Combo #2 Plate at Nellies was superior all the way around, especially chile con carne and rellenos. More...
