She expertly handled all of us, especially the three kids and got some amazing shots of them. If you have children, I would highly recommend her. First of all, I have to say that there is absolutely nothing I would change about my experience with Kristen and her ability to engage and capture your needs from the first moment you speak with her. I am out of state and googled photographers in Telluride and I emailed her on a whim and gave her less than two weeks notice and she was able to accommodate my family photo needs. I was so weary, but as soon as I got on the phone with her, I knew she was the one. My husband thought I was crazy. And he too was completely awed at her genuine love for her art, and for people and their stories. She is worth every cent you invest in the memories that she captures for you and your family. I loved that Kristen called immediately to discuss what I was looking for, being personable and not just shooting emails back and forth is important to me. She took the time to learn what I wanted to capture and to get to know who we are as a family. Telluride is a special place for my husband and I, and making our first road trip from TX to CO with our firstborn 9 month old son was going to be special. I knew we had to capture this time. This was also going to be our first family portrait and we couldn’t have picked anyone better. In celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary, we asked Kristen to photograph our entire family of 15 which included 7 children under the age of 10. We wanted a group photograph but also individual photos of the separate families, the grandkids alone and my husband and I with our grandkids. It was a daunting task!Kristen chose a beautiful venue, prepared us well, gave us tips for photographing kids, and the shoot went off without a hitch. We had an epic family gathering from all corners of the US in Telluride, CO to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary and my own 20th anniversary. It is rare to have everyone in the same place at the same time and with the stunning scenery it was the opportunity of a lifetime to capture some memories. We had a large group aging from 5 to 80 and Kristen did a great job working with everyone and providing some stunning photos. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
One of the secrets to taking a great portrait is to keep shooting in between the posed shots. It's during those quiet moments between a couple or between a parent and child, for example, that the real connective magic happens.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Do you want quality or quantity? We believe it's better to have 25 amazing and different images than a hundred blah and forgettable ones.
What do you love most about your job?
Each session is part of my journey in this profession that I Iove. Each session is different. Being outside in the mountains and getting to learn about people with unique experiences is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. I love that I am not only creating lifelong memories for people to have and hold, but I am also growing my art at the same time. It's a special give and take profession.
What inspired you to start your own business?
My parents have piles of images of members of our family, dating back generations. To have these connections to the past is incredibly important to our family, as it is important for me to be continuously capturing the present moments so that my children have connections to their past. I know that others feel similarly about having these connections to the past and I wanted to offer a service that helps to preserve time through my carefully crafted style and vision.
Why should our clients choose you?
We should work together if my style appeals to you. I view my images as individual canvases to showcase personalities within a natural and colorful setting. I want my images to have the feel of a painting, almost like a photograph of a painting.
