What do you love most about your job?
I believe that weddings are the ultimate photo story. I love being able to capture the magic of a wedding day and creating beautiful photography that preserve those memories for your lifetime. Knowing that you are able to relive your wedding day through these heirloom photos is the most satisfying part of my job.
What inspired you to start your own business?
As a working photojournalist for major national and international news organizations, I knew for my own wedding that I wanted to have a photojournalist photograph my day. One small problem was that there was no such thing as wedding photojournalism when I got married 18 years ago. I knew that if this was a service that I wanted, there had to be others who would want the same thing, too. After my wedding day, I decided to learn everything I could about classic wedding photography. I worked with other wedding photographers, went to seminars and took classes. In that process, I discovered that I truly love wedding photography. I merged what I learned about classic wedding photography with my skills as an award winning photojournalist and Katherine Van Acker Photography was born.

I love the magic of weddings. I live and breathe weddings and yes, I watch all the wedding shows! I'm obsessed with wedding dresses, bridal bouquets, and wedding cakes. I love when people go crazy on the dance floor. l love being able to witness and photograph the bonds of love between the couple and their family as they celebrate your union.
