We were looking to redo our kitchen and started getting quotes from people/companies. We saw a magazine add from Karmal Skillington discussing new kitchens so we called and she seemed to be ready and willing for the job after pictures and measurements were shared.
My wife and I felt good about the communication and drive. She sent out a designer to get a good idea of what needed to be done. In the end we liked the design compared to existing so we decided to move forward with them and paid 25% (about 15k). We were waiting just over a month to then here from her asking for our signature to be able to place the order of materials. This shocked us knowing it had already been so long from our deposit and we were expecting to be hearing materials arrived and we can schedule once we assemble them. Around that time we were told we need to have the existing kitchen removed with electrical and plumbing in place for them before they can come out and install. We were shocked because none of this was shared with us before. Because of the miscommunication, she did agree to have someone come out and remove the existing cabinets for us. From that point on she told us over and over during the process that “I (we) are not a contractor”. Which was very irritating. When the materials finally arrived 2.5 months later, we learned around that time the person, (old employee) the only one with any cabinet experience, lives in Georgia. So we had to wait to schedule on his time not ours. Once again very frustrating. We learned the measurements were off and more items needed to be ordered to even continue the project. We reached out to the designer, who we were only able to meet with twice before the project, because there was confusion on where and how to place the cabinets. This was frustrating because we are trusting that who ever was in charge of the project knew what they were doing. Apparently the designer not an employee was more knowledgeable about the project. We were not able to have communication with the designer at this point since she told us she was only told to just design it. So they told the designer to stop communicating with us. As a person who is paying lots of money to redo a kitchen, we wanted to feel confident that the kitchen was going to be done right. We did not have a lot of confidence, just more frustration. As more weeks passed and things were finally somewhat in place (bottom half not secured to wall yet) they asked for the final remaining 25% balance before the job was even done because it had been so long and they have been doing everything they can. We were once again shocked but politely declined due to our experience up until that point with lack of professionalism and as they kept saying “we are not a contractor”. We wanted to honor the contract and wait for the project to be completed before we paid the remaining balance. There address says Franklin but we learned with the many times they had to come to our job that they operate and live an hour from Brentwood/Franklin area. They do seem to have great reviews for years which was one of the reasons we chose them but it’s only for tables, islands, etc. They are new to doing kitchen remodels and we were one of the firsts. I have zero experience with kitchens but I do have experience with customer service, professionalism, and communication . If you are looking to do a kitchen or anything more then smaller stuff like tables, islands find someone else.

They did their best and are not bad people, we have no ill will toward them but like we were told over and over they are not a contractor, so please do yourself a favor and go find someone else.

Leigh was well aware of the stress we went through getting our bathroom vanity from another company made wrong, twice! She made us a beautiful vanity that we love! Leigh was a jewel. I’m not sure how she does it, but she was able to make my non-eloquent verbiage and turn it into an absolutely beautiful dining table. After reviewing several fuzzy pictures that I sent of our home, she sourced marble for the top of the table that coordinates wonderfully with our decor. We needed a cabinet for a very specific part of our kitchen/thoroughfare. Width restrictions made it very difficult to find something that would work just right. Style and finish were a challenge as well - since this sits visible between two differently styled spaces. Leigh and her talented team have created numerous heirloom treasures for our family over the past 6 years. They first crafted a beautiful farmhouse table, and refinished chairs we already had to match it perfectly. Leigh next worked with us to create lovely coffee and end tables, providing paint and varnish wood samples so we could select the correct colors in our lighting. The tables feature beautiful gray blue legs and match our rug perfectly - and Leigh did a superb job shipping the pieces 8 hours from here, ensuring they were well protected to arrive safely! Leigh’s masterpiece is our kitchen island (also necessitating shipping 8 hours away) and though I love each of their pieces, this is my favorite. Leigh spent countless hours discussing my very detailed wishes, reviewing measurements and coming up with creative solutions to get maximum space utilization within our space constraints. Her attention to detail is remarkable, and she truly listens to her customers’ desires, making their dreams a reality. Our search to acquire a custom built, one-of-a-kind, farmhouse table began about one year ago. We looked at custom shops in 4 states. We found Karmal Skillington on the web and made an appointment with the owner, Leigh, and met her at her store on a Saturday afternoon to see what she had to offer as to our dream farmhouse table. Leigh really took the time to capture the essence of what we were looking for, from size to style to colors and tones of the wood. She gave us an exact build-time and kept her word. She sent us pictures of our table through the process and even guided us through the details of making a couple of changes. Our table was delivered and we are more than thrilled with it.
