The decor is bizarre and kind of offensive in some corners. The food was okay. Not the best. My burger was a little cold. The flavor was okay . Nothing special. The house chips were soggy and bland. The waitress wasn’t very nice and we didn’t get drunk refills More...

Instead of our normal Saturday night tacos pilgrimage, Ryan, me and couple of friends decided go to Grinders. Don't worry! I appeased the Taco God's earlier that afternoon by consuming tacos at Fric n Frac (can't afford to upset the Taco Gods. I don't want to suffer their wrath). What contributed to this change in our plans, you may be asking yourself. Well, we had heard tale of the death wings that Grinders had. Wings so hot that they are deemed inedible. Since I love the super hot and spicy (as does one of our friends) we felt the gauntlet had been thrown and headed out with the "Challenge accepted" chant on our lips! We arrived and got seated pretty quickly. The server brought us our menu and drinks. We mentioned we were interested death wings. The look of skepticism that crossed her face should have been our warning that we shouldn't go forth. "Uhm...those are inedible. You may want to order other food first and try that last as your appetite may be ruined. No one has ever eaten more than 1 of the wings." We decided to heed her advice and ordered a pepperoni New York style pizza, a slice of Goldberg "Phats" pizza, potato casserole, a grinder and 1 order of molten wings (the spicy wings 1 step below the death wings). We wanted to see how spicy those molten wings were to verify of we thought we could handle the legendary death wings. The food arrived and let me tell you, it was DELICIOUS!!! All 4 of us agreed that the molten wings (while spicy) were not THAT spicy. So we felt beyond confident that we could conquer the death wings with no problem. Oh my dear friends, how wrong we were. So terribly, awfully wrong. The server comes back to our table. "We want an order of the death wings", we say. "Are you sure? They are super hot", she responds. "Yes! The molten ones were not that spicy and we came to conquer the death wings. Bring them forth, good lady", our response. The server (with a smirk), "Okay. I warned you." About 15 minutes later the server arrives with the wings....and rubber gloves. "You want to eat the wings with these gloves on. Don't handle the wings with unprotected hands and make sure to wash your hands very well after you eat them. Oh! Don't touch your face or any part of your body at all until you have washed your hands". She then gave us the gloves, set the wings down on the table and walked way. I glanced down at the wings to look at them closer. Guys, no lie, these wings LOOKED angry and mean. Truly they did. I leaned closer to smell them as I wanted to see if I could detect what kind of spice or peppers were used to create them. All I could smell was a peppery smell. My confidence soared! I mean they didn't smell spicy! We all quickly put on our gloves and grabbed a wing each. The bravest of group dunked one in ranch and took a huge bite. Instantly, his face turned bright red and he immediately started sweating and hiccupping. Wimp, I thought! I then took my first (and only bite). Holy hell, all! This was a pain I have never experienced before in my life and it was INSTANT! As I chewed the pain I was experiencing can only be described as the agony one must feel if they picked up a hot coal and decided to eat it. My taste buds felt as if they were being seared off my tongue. My lips were as if I had decided to wrap them around a hot poker that had been set in the fiery pits of Hell. My heart rate instantly accelerated as adrenaline coursed through veins. This is how I die, I thought. I look over at Ryan through my tear filled eyes. The poor man was practically hyperventilating and was a shade of red that can only be described as boils lobster. I then look at our friends sitting across from us. The bravest is trying valiantly to look cool as he is gulping down glass after glass of water. His poor wife (who detests all spicy things) looks like she is in shock as the tears stream down her face. The pain is NOT dissipating, all! If anything it is getting worse and worse! I start guzzling water, my beer, carrots, celery (which those of you who know me well, know I detest celery)! In my desperation to try an cool my burning mouth, I (ashamedly) even started doing "shots" of ranch from the little cups that came out with the wings. The server returns. "How is it? Do you like them?" Our response, "White Russians, please. Bring us the dairy! We are so sorry that we doubted your knowledge in these matters, dear lady!" While we were waiting for what we hoped was a cure, the bravest amongst us wife forgot about the warning the server gave us. The poor woman touched her eye. I have never felt as bad for someone as I did her. I can't imagine the pain she was in as she ran to the bathroom to clean it out. The heat from those death wings took a good hour to start to disappear. No joke, all. And that, my dear friends, is how I spent my Saturday night. Going to the bathroom this morning is a WHOLE different story that is not fit to share here. I will just say, I am walking a little funny. We will return to Grinders again (as their food is amazing... especially that Goldberg "Phats" pizza). We will NOT try to battle the death wings again. More...
