We order a lot of party trays from this place and they are consistently good. The Pancit and Lumpia are always a hit. We also eat here or do take out almost every week. ...LOL ..as the food is delicious and it's like having a home cooked meal around the corner. It seems to be family owned and so they have the bare minimum staff but they do their best to attend to everyone as fast as they can. One of my fave dessert from here is the Turon ...definitely a must try. More...

I've got to admit, I was scared to eat only with my hands during this Boodle fight among co-workers; one false move could mean major dummy points through the grapevine and months to recover any credibility in the office.  The key is to keep one hand clean, as you will be required to open your drinks, which come with the meal, as well as to wipe your mouth while eating the delicious Filipino foods and dipping sauces.  The cost of such a meal was $25 per person, which is not so bad considering we had a lot of leftovers.  The key to this type of dining is to sit next to people who have slight appetites, so you can have more of a share of the food from in front and to each side of you.  There is no rule or limit to how much food you can eat, as long as you can tolerate having a full stomach at work.  I would definitely bring a lot of people to such an event, as it's like a family gathering, except with co-workers... Boodle fight commence! We came here for my birthday lunch and tried this amazing experience. It was all our first time and we had no idea how to eat this or what to do. Therefore, a lot of google research started before we came here. We were able to choose 5 items: pork ssig, pancit, lechon, grilled squid, and chicken skewers. All items were pretty good and we were able to finish a good chunk of our meal! We all had different favorites, overall the food was pretty good. It did make us feel kind of gross after since everything is "oily" and heavy. They offered us a choice of our free drinks and they have a good selection! The eggrolls that were given are pretty good. If you would like to try boodle fight, come here and try it out! It is a pretty popular place and not too far from the SGV area. Good pricing and lots of food offered. Enjoy the experience of eating everything with your hands. ;) I promise you it'd be a fun culinary experience! More...

For our birthdays this year, my fiancée and I were eager to try something new, and what better way to celebrate than to get your hands dirty with your friends? The boodle fight at Kalye Grill comes standard with rice, two different types of lumpia, eggplant, mango salad, and four dipping sauces. There wasn't really an explanation of what sauces go with what, so it was up to us to figure it out.The entree selections are up to you. You can choose five from the options provided. For our boodle fight, we ordered:1. Pritong pompano. A whole fried fish--face, tail, bones, and all. As a Chinese person, I love stuff like this, but the idea of ripping a fish apart with your bare hands might freak some people out a little. Still, the meat was hot and tender, albeit strong with the flavor of fish oils.2. Pork sisig. Super flavorful minced pork. Best eaten with rice. Of the dishes we ordered, this was the most inconvenient to pick up with your hands. Would've probably subbed this out for something more "finger food" friendly.3. Adobong spareribs. Unlike the other dishes laid out on the table, these are served in bowls pooled in their own juices. The meat was very tasty, but the spareribs on the bottom were quite greasy.4. Halabos na hipon (shrimp). This dish is pretty simple so there isn't much to say about it, but the shrimp was cooked well.5. Lechon kawali. My favorite dish out of the five. Reminds me of Cantonese roast pork belly. I'm pretty sure I consumed the most of this out of anything. We upgraded the table to garlic rice for $10 more, but I didn't think this was worth it. At around $20 per person (plus tax and tip), this place is pretty affordable compared to other boodle fight restaurants I've researched in Southern California. A seemingly unlimited number of drinks are even included free of charge.Rey was very helpful and responsive by answering my many questions over email. If you can, I would suggest coming to this restaurant beforehand and trying some of the dishes a la carte if you're unsure about anything. Just keep in mind this is more of a takeout place unless you're having a boodle fight (which requires a minimum of four people).Overall, I'd consider a boodle fight an interesting experience that should be tried at least once. While it's not something I'd do every year, I'm grateful and glad I was able to get enough people to come with me to try this out! More...

Even though we do not live in the area, we are quite happy to have discovered this small, family run Filipino cafe with good quality food in Diamond Bar.   We have found excuses to visit and revisit here several times in the past month, it is just that good, maybe better than what we thought were great places in other parts of Southern California.  Just don't be expecting an upscale dining experience.  It is not. This is not an Asian fusion type of place, very traditional.  The small kitchen puts out a daily rotational menu of hot, pre-prepared dishes, known as Turo Turo (meaning point-point, the equivalent of cafeteria service), but there is also a regular menu, foods cooked to order.  You can even find traditional, heavy Filipino breakfasts.  You must help yourself to the cups and water dispenser unless you wish another kind of refrigerated beverage, and accompaniments like soy sauce or garlic vinegar* for dipping or slathering all over your pork are found on a tray nearby. We are have already discovered their Dinuguan which was done quite well here.   Dinuguan is not served every day, it rotates. If you are not familiar with this dish, you need to be informed as to the ingredients, as it incorporates parts of the pig that some may find offensive, like pork blood.  This one also uses pork ears.  We are passionate about a good dinuguan.  This is it.The Lechon Kawali- pork belly cubed and fried, was freshly cooked and crispy skinned.  The Pork Sisig was exceptional.  I have eaten many, this is one of my favorite dishes at any Filipino establishment, but theirs was different from others I've had, so much more flavorful.  I cannot imagine eating here without ordering this.  This was on the rotational menu.Their signature Bbq  Skewers (tried both pork and chicken) were tender and well seasoned and a real bargain.  Do try these if you are mystified and a newcomer to this cuisine.  Always available. The sinigang, a soup made with pork ribs and a broth seasoned with sour tamarind, was delightful.  I like my soup quite sour, with plenty of okra and daikon radish.  This definitely met my expectations! We also tried their bif steak (thinly sliced beef cooked with onions in a soy sauce gravy) and pig knuckles in a sweet soy gravy.  Both tasted like Mr. B's family recipes, i.e. very good. The Mongo (a small dried mung bean stew made with pork, powdered dried shrimp, and bittermelon, was my least favorite.  It was bland, missing something.  Usually I am a big fan of this dish.If you are feeling particularly festive, this is a place you can try eating Kamayan style food (eating with your hands, rice spread out on the table over banana leaves, then covered with selected meat and vegetable dishes, and lumpia, Filipino egg rolls).  They call it "Boodle Fight", a delightful, ice breaking, family food experience that requires a reservation ahead.*Bring Breath Assure.  The copious garlic with kill your chances of getting a follow up job interview or a sly kiss.  That, my friends, is just how it is with Filipino cuisine. Imagine a table with no plates, no utensils, and in the middle banana leaves with pancit, fish, fried chicken, lumpia, and pretty much any Filipino dish you can think of. We then used our hands to consume as much food as we could. There was so much food that even with all 17 of us, we couldn't finish it all! Overall it was such a fun experience and I was definitely recommend anyone to participate! Just make sure to wash your hands very well beforehand. More...

What a nice late afternoon find in the city of Diamond Bar! The family that owns the simple, cozy restaurant is kind and hardworking, and the food we tried was very good. For a party of two we ordered the lechon kawali which was very crisp yet moist and the dipping sauce delicious; sisig asada fries were very tasty, as was the tap-si-log (all day breakfast - beef/rice/eggs). The cost was reasonable for three generously sized dishes (took home leftovers of the lechon and fries) and the service was timely and friendly.Beyond the food, it was very interesting to watch them set up a boodle fight for a party of 21 and another for a party of 4. It was hard not to stare as it is intriguing and beautiful, and it definitely makes you want to come back and try it with some friends! It would have been five stars if they had had other Filipino dishes that I was hoping to find like adobo and beef caldereta (though I suppose those aren't "grilled" dishes so they don't fit the bill here)... and also if they hadn't run out of the skewers we wanted to try (but were being held for the boodle fight). Still, I look forward to going back and trying other items soon. More...

Man, what happened to this place? When I first saw this on Cahuenga and Hollywood right off the 101, it was so very nice. They were taking a modern twist to traditional Filipino food . Not sell out food just enhanced are upgraded whatever you want to call it. Even the whole layout and atmosphere was different. A few years ago seems like they lost their lease and moved out to MacArthur Park area that's not true. Not sure if that place is still open and I have never been there but I heard that this Diamond Bar location had opened. I was in the area so I decided to drop in, it's pretty much your average run-of-the-mill same old older generation ran Filipino restaurant that you find in the United States. Gone are the days of the modern twist to traditional Filipino food here. Gone are the days of the more hip atmosphere and decor. I wonder if the original creators of the restaurant sold it off Well, you win some you lose some. The food here is good but it's again, run of the mill average Filipino joint now. Nothing really special. Yes, they do the boodle fight Etc but I am quite certain it's nothing like the boodle fight that used to happen in Hollywood. Atmosphere alone was so fly out there! I think there needs to be more support for the Young pinoys and entrepreneurs in the restaurant game bringing traditional Filipino food to the masses. Maybe it's something to do with the whole, not wanting to pay for something you can get cheaper at a run-of-the-mill joint? Or maybe it's something like, thinking other chefs from other ethnic backgrounds other than Filipino can't create good Filipino food? Or maybe it's something like, folks just think it's to bougie or something? Whatever the case, you gotta support not because it's Filipino but because it's a great way to open up the culture and the people for bigger and better things. if nothing else, you gotta represent because there are other countries taking and stealing Cuisine and dishes from the islands and claiming it for their own dot-dot-dot and coming up 2! Sadly without giving props to where the influence came from.So to all those so-called Foodies and probably noise, stand up and represent and support ball up-and-coming establishments that rep the cultural cuisine! Traditional, modern or what have you! Just rep and present! More...
