I train behavioral conditioning along with obedience.
The reason that so many training programs fail is the emphasis on obedience over behavior. Obedience is what you tell a dog to do, behavior is what your dog chooses to do.

I have a mini Bernedoodle, his name is Oliver . He was the first puppy I’ve ever had that loved to destroy wires . Any kind electrical .
I had many outside repairs and chords I had to replace . I decided to send him to puppy training . I went on internet to find someone close by but a perfect fit .
That’s when I found K-9 reset .
Oliver spent a week with boarding and I could not believe the chg . This training corrected my handling of Oliver. And , I have to say Oliver and I and family are much more happier . He is still a puppy . But reinforcement helps correct when I feel he is slipping . I would recommend any dog to this school . More...
I cannot recommend Rich enough. I brought my rescued pitbull mix to him to work on his leash reactivity and impulsivity.
His first two free sessions prior to boarding were so informative and curated to my pup’s needs. I was blown away by the time and consideration he put into making sure we had the tools we needed to help our dog prior to boarding.
If I was impressed before the boarding, I was blown out of the water after. When I picked up my dog after 7 days with Rich, he was and continues to be a significantly more well adjusted, calm and confident dog. I truly feel that working with Rich improved my trust and understanding with my pup and his with me. I will absolutely be working with Rich in the future, this is clearly what he loves and what he is meant to do. 10/10. More...
Rich is the best! I brought my Great Dane puppy Birdie to k9 reset for training techniques and behavioral lessons, I am so impressed with what Rich was able to teach her! Birdie now sits before crossing the road, walks directly by my side and doesn’t jump up on people or our countertops! It’s a miracle, 10/10 recommend k9 reset. More...
If you want a well training best friend for life this is the place to go. Rich does an amazing job with showing you the tools of how to train your best friend. My father and I were nervous when adopting a shelter dog, knowing they come with some extra work at times. Rich was kind with helping us to show our dog this is his forever home, that he can relax, and that we most importantly are in charge, not our dog Peanut. We have had a lovely time learning and seeing our dog improve to be a happier and well trained dog every week. More...
Rich was amazing with our dog - so happy with the results!
We reached out to Rich after our dog Guapo began showing increased reactivity to dogs while out on walks (one incident resulted in a scary fall and a broken foot for me! ) We needed help and after our first call with Rich, we were confident we found the right trainer. Before sending Guapo to K9 Reset, Rich gave us some homework to do with him and we began seeing a difference then. After his week of Board & Train, Guapo came back to us a calmer and more attentive dog. The pulling stopped, the jumping stopped and his loose leash walking was much better, but the biggest improvement was his dog reactivity! We now have the tools to deal with situations as they occur. K9 Reset gave all of us, dog and human, a new start. Rich is a miracle worker! More...

Thank you Julie, I’m so happy Gaupo is doing better, and it’s only continuing because his “people” are comitted to making his life better, and in turn, yours too!
It was great working with rich he's very knowledgeable with what he does and explains everything where you can actually understand it all and always kept us up to date with updates and videos of our dog and it was great to know our dog was in great hands rich did an amazing job can't thank him enough
Rich worked with our 10 month old 90lb Cane Corso, and we all had a great experience. Rich was patient with our girl while she warmed up to him, then they clearly bonded while conquering lots of her fears and hesitations (open stairs, Swiffers, balloons, etc. ). By the end of the week, they seemed like best friends. Rich communicated with us throughout each day, keeping us apprised on how she was doing, sending lots of videos and pictures, and seeking live feedback. We enjoyed our experience with Rich and will certainly go back to him for refreshers in the future. More...

Working with Rich as we trained our 12 month old Belgian Malinois, Olive, was a dream. He was so generous with his time and clearly explained how to not only train our dog, but train us to be better owners. We feel more confident and have had a much better relationship with Olive since the training. She's been a happier more confident dog, too. Couldn't be happier with the job Rich did and would recommend him to anyone. More...

I could not be happier with the training my Boxer dog received at K-9 Reset.
Finley is a much happier and calmer dog after being at K- 9 Reset for her week long training. The training is easy to maintain and commands are simple for my dog to follow. My dog received phenomenal care while at K -9 Reset.
I would highly recommend having your dog train with Rich. Rich is professional, extremely knowledgeable and has an amazing way of communicating with the dogs in his care.
It was a pleasure to work with Rich as always! Our 9 month old golden retriever went back for a refresher, and her behavior improved quite a bit! She is not pulled me on the leash anymore! Rich was also very generous with his time; explained in detail how to go forward with her training at home. I highly recommend him to anyone who is in need of training! More...

I can’t say enough about the training my dog received. She was hard to control, constantly jumping at people and always pulling when walking. She didn’t listen to dimple commands. After spending one week with K9 Reset she’s a much better behaved dog. She sits quietly, hardly ever pulls when walking, obeys commands and isn’t jumping on people very often anymore. She is a pleasure. I can’t say enough about the care and attention that was provided to her. Not only was she trained but a good deal of care was given to training us on how to continue with her good behavior. We are contacted to discuss how things are going and we can call with any questions or concerns we may have. Our experience with K9 Reset was absolutely the best decision to bring her there for training and I’m so pleased with the outcome. I highly recommend K9 Reset. More...

I have two malamutes who needed to be trained for reactivity , and the puppy was a complete disaster at home if left alone , Rich trained them both , and set up a strong base for me and my kids to take over ! I’m walking with them now and bunch of dogs pass by us with no reaction from my dogs ! I can leave a tomahawk steak 🥩 in front of the pup and he will be sitting underneath without even looking at it !! But he started reacting again the past couple of days because my kids were not consistent with the training and I was working long hours. Rich is a wonderful trainer, he communicated every day about how the dogs are doing , sending videos and pics ! Even now after we are done for a while I still can call him and ask his guidance ! He sets up a solid base for you to continue, it’s very essential to be consistent after his work is done or else dogs will forget and go back to their old habits ! Thanks Rich I think Axel misses you 😆 More...
We have not begun the training.
Rich couldn’t have done a better job with my dog moose a husky. Huskies can be difficult to rain and he gave us the foundation to continue with the training at home.
We were very clear with what we wanted and rich went above and beyond. Being a first time dog owner He did an awesome job training myself up and is always available to answer questions down the road.I’d recommend him highly.
Thanks again rich moose is doing awesome! More...
The transformation that our River (Red 8 month Doberman) made from spending a week under Richard’s training is remarkable. She not only following basic commands but her whining has reduced immensely. Yes it takes following instructions but if you do I assure you life with you dog will be enhanced. Thank you Rich. Our dog professor!! More...
We chose to give K9 Reset a try based on the reviews I read online, and I am so glad we did. We admired Rich's calm and professional disposition, and I immediately felt he could handle our insane pointer puppy.
Before Branden went to spend the week with Rich we tried everything to get him tired enough just to pet him. It was so long since our last puppy and then add two young kids to the mix, we needed real help. I loved that Rich contacted us every day and sent videos while Branden was with him. The day we picked Branden up, he was casually sitting in the park and I was able to pet him and walk with him for the first time, it was amazing. Rich stayed in contact and continued to help with Branden's specific problems at home which was also wonderful. We still have a nutty pointer puppy, though now we feel that we have the right tools and knowledge to handle him. More...
Rich was fantastic with our one year old golden retriever, Gordie. He needed a reset after he started regressing a bit with reactivity to other dogs/people, and pulling/jumping on the leash. He was also very skittish around stairs, thresholds, etc. but after a week with rich he is much more confident and we both have much more pleasant walks together. Gordie even went up and down a very narrow set of stairs at my mother in laws home which he has always been afraid of and would normally freeze/whine when we tried to get him to follow us down. Rich is very thorough and made us feel completely comfortable leaving our puppy with him for the week. He sent daily videos and updates and gave us detailed instructions on how to continue Gordie’s training once we picked him up. Before Rich, we were really struggling with Gordie’s behavior on walks and him listening to our commands, but a week with Rich made such a huge difference. I highly recommend K9 reset as a board and train option! More...
To say that Rich is an incredible trainer is an understatement. From his consistent and timely communication, to his unrivaled kindness and knowledge, there is no one I'd trust more training my puppy. Rich and I were in contact months before I took my energetic shepherd in. She was a nightmare to handle and I explained that to Rich. What I really value was being able to meet with Rich twice before dropping her off for free to evaluate and go over exercises to prepare her for his training regimen. Rich was able to establish the foundation for my pup to be more controllable and trainable. She has come such a long way thanks to his invaluable work. I am also very grateful for his willingness to reach out and stay in touch regarding her progress. I'm glad he's in my corner and that I went with him as my trainer! More...

Thank you for the kind words Alexis, Freya was a blast to have!
I cannot say enough GREAT things about our experience with Rich!! Our three biggest challenges involved recall (literally non existent), reactivity to noises, and learning to "chill.
These commands have now been refined and we have learned the skills to continue to improve on the skills.
Sometimes Poppy still thinks about if she really wants to come but it's not the "I CAN'T HEAR YOU" response of the past and she will respond and we now have the tools and patience to continue working with her.
In terms of reactions to loud noises - previously on a good day she would get a C. Now she gets a B+ on a bad day which is saying a lot.
There are other skills Poppy learned at her time with Rich as well with manners, not jumping to hug people, and expertise in leave it.
Constant communication, texts, and videos put us at ease and knowing she was essentially a part of his family while there adds to the high recommendation! He is also available for follow up questions. More...
So, the joke in our house is the “before Richard times” and the “after Richard times”. We brought Kiki to Richard when she was seven months old. We thought she was going to be a 20 pound dog. She was not, she was 40lbs and so full of puppy and nervous energy, she was more than we knew how to handle. Before we even brought her to Richard he worked with us to teach her to stop pulling on her leash. She had that down within a day, no joke. When we brought her into Richard she stayed for the week, she learned her commands and then it was our job to make sure to follow up on them. It’s not easy work, it’s a commitment but it has changed the entire household because she knows what to do. Her nervous energy has been cut in half!!!! . Richard follows up with me at least every two weeks and is so happy to answer any questions. It’s like magic! More...
We couldn’t be more thrilled with how Rich at K9 Reset worked with our dog, Asher. We were giving up on walking with him because he would always pull (and he’s a pretty big dog), and he would always bark and lunge at other dogs and people (even without a dog.
) Rich was able to get Asher to walk calmly and follow commands, which makes walking him much more enjoyable. Asher was also pawing at our legs at dinner time (completely our fault for feeding him dinner treats.) he now no longer invites himself to dinner…(we still may put scraps in his bowl, but we don’t let him see us do that 🙄) Asher was also constantly barking while outside in the yard, whether it was a person, dog or just at the bunnies. WE were those neighbors with the never ending barking dog 🤦🏼♀️. This is all simply corrected with a command. We not only learned how to correct Asher, but we
Learned why he might be behaving in the way he was. My family and I are so grateful for Rich at K9 Reset. Asher is a happier dog 😊 More...
My first discussion with Rich was via phone, with a summarization of the problems I was having with my Cane Corso Mia, 2yrs. 5 months. Mia reaction to other dogs, difficulty handling ,controlling on leash. Rich suggested we meet so he could evaluate Mia. At the meeting He was able to see Mia’s reactions. He suggested board and train to work with her. We set the date to drop her off.Rich from day one sent verbal and video updates to me showing her progress, which was a complete turnaround from her actions she was walking on the leash learning not to react to other dogs. On the datpy of pickup Rich spent over an hour walking with Mia and me while I controlled the leash, doing what he had done using a combination of e-collar and prong collar correctly , Mia walked not pulled and I controlled the walk. She has been home almost a week and we have taken walks with me in control not Mia. I am thoroughly satisfied , happy with, and confident that the training Mia and I received from Rich is the best that I could do for my Mia and would refer his services to anyone that asked me. As a post note Rich is always there if I need to speak to him and if I have a question. He is not done and gone. More...

We had an amazing experience with Rich! He was able to accomplish a tremendous improvement in so many behaviors with our four month puppy in just a week! It was truly life changing for us since getting a puppy proved to be so much more challenging than we anticipated. Every day felt like a struggle, but after she returned from K9Reset, we could finally enjoy her. Above all, Rich has been so very generous with his time, answering any questions or concerns, providing invaluable education to us! Thank you for the kind wirds Irena, it’s a pleasure working with all of you!
Working with Rich has been an amazing experience. From the very first phone call with him I knew he would be the answer to what we had been looking for. We have a 1 year old male golden who had a major jumping, pulling, not listening problem. Despite our efforts with other training programs our pup was still out of control. After just a week with Rich he was like night and day! He doesn’t plow people over when he greets them, he can be walked without pulling or growling at other dogs. Imagine this, your dog coming when you call them! Mine can do that now! Rich has been there every step of the way, even after we picked our boy up. He answers all of my crazy questions and has guided my entire family on how to reset our dog to our life style instead of us adjusting to his. If you are looking to get your pup under control I highly recommend working with K9 Reset, you won’t regret it! More...

Meghan, thank you for the kind words, Blu was a treat to work with, as were you and Jesse. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
I was amazingly pleased with how my dog Ray improved after just a week with Rich. I brought Ray to K9 reset to address some manner issues, she was jumping, lunging, reacting to other dogs on walks. I was a little nervous to do a board and train program but Rich walked me through the process and his methodologies and made me feel great about this approach so I decided to board her for a week. I received video updates daily (even multiple times a day sometimes) with her progress. After settling in I was amazed at the updates, after just 2 days I could see her reactivity improving significantly. After many updates and check-ins I picked her up after her week was complete. Rich was very helpful and spent time explaining the new commands and techniques so I could continue to work with her at home. Shortly after I got to see her progress in action on a walk a few days later with some family. Her jumping was markedly improved when she was greeted and she was even tested when walking by a group of dogs playing. She ACED it and walked by them without a second look. Even my family joining me for the walk were very impressed. I have such a greater bond with Ray and even have asked for tips for my older dog Luna to start using some of the methods used to train Ray and Rich was very helpful with her as well. All in all, I would definitely recommend this training. Ray was well cared for and came back happy and ready to continue training. Rich truly shows his care for the dogs he takes on and has great results. More...

Working with Rich Laperchia was amazing and everything we hoped for. We have a 2 year old 150lb. Great Dane. He is an alpha dog and very energetic. Before K9 Reset he was very mouthy, would pull on leash, counter surf, jump on people that entered house. After a week with K9 Reset it was like we got a different dog back. Ozzy was more attentive and obeyed commands. We just needed that foundation to be set and reclaimed. Now that we have the basics set we can now work on it from here on out. It was everything we hoped for and more. I would recommend K9 Reset and Rich Laperchia 10 times out of 10. More...

I sent my 4 month old Australian shepherd to spend a week with Rich for training. He is a high energy pup, and although very smart, I had a hard time training him. We brought our 8 month old dog, Kiki, to K9 reset for 2 weeks, hoping for help with leash pulling, recall, and counter surfing, and are extremely happy with her results! Even after just one meeting, I felt very comfortable leaving Kiki with Rich - he seemed to have a calming presence over our rather skittish dog. Rich was great about providing updates via text, as well as sending pictures and videos of the things they were working on. Since bringing Kiki home, it is clear she learned a lot! She is able to calm down more easily, walking well on the leash, getting better at recall, and there is no more counter surfing. Rich is very clear about the fact that the training must continue at home, and not only gives you the information you need to do so, but continues to check in to see how your dog is doing. After recently moving to a new apartment, Kiki was having some difficulties settling in. We asked Rich for some advice and he was more than happy to help. We would highly recommend K9 Reset to anyone! More...
We rescued our dog, Pumpkin, and assumed she’d be trained and the good girl that she now is before our first baby was due in 5 months. That definitely was not the case. Pumpkin is very eager and excitable when meeting new people and dogs. She would get the zoomies, jump on you, basically had little to no listening skills, absolutely no leash skills as she would pull/walk you, and even though she knew some commands such as sit, stay, come, and wait, she was very selective with those. Once our baby arrived, I felt as though I was drowning trying to figure out how to take our baby and Pumpkin on walks, have guests over without stressing over Pumpkin, and just the daily management of having a dog. Feeling EXTREMELY overwhelmed and stressed, I researched and found K9 Reser. Rich emailed me back right away and we had a phone conversation that morning. I instantly felt relieved after talking with him and when we met in person, I had the biggest weight lifted off my shoulders. Watching Pumpkin wag her tail and listen to him within 10 minutes of interaction was out of this world!! I saw a different dog. We knew right then and there Rich was the one and we scheduled a week of training with him. It was the absolute best decision we’ve ever made! Pumps now has better recall, understands her place and what to do in different situations, keeps all four paws on the ground☺️, and it’s not stressful to take her out for a walk in the busy city! Training with Rich has been life changing for our family- we cannot recommend him enough! He is so gentle, kind, and very patient. He’s extremely professional and warm, and made it very clear he is here to help us long after the week of training was over. We are beyond relieved and happy to have met Rich and his guidance has changed our daily lifestyle with Pumpkin. We cannot thank him enough and strongly recommend K9 Reset!!! More...
We were afraid at first to send our dog to a trainer, both because our dog already had separation anxiety and because we wanted to be sure it wasn’t going to be a scary or traumatizing experience for him - and that we would get our same, loving, energetic, individualistic dog back at the end of the week.
Richard convinced us that this was the right choice and that Scout was in good hands by explaining that to empathize with dogs we have to understand that they are descendants of wolves, not primates; knowing their role in the pack at all times is essential for them to feel secure. Richard talked with me and answered all my questions for an hour on the phone and met with us and Scout several times, to talk with us about what was happening and to help us prepare Scout to work with Richard at K9 Reset.
I was nervous the day I dropped Scout off, but I was reassured when Richard demonstrated that Scout could watch me leave without becoming upset. Richard sent me pictures, videos, and updates most days of the week that we were away, and I was amazed by how quickly Scout was sitting calmly by other dogs (something he had never previously been able to do), walking calmly by Richard’s side, and overall paying attention. The day we picked Scout up, Richard trained us on all Scout’s new commands. Scout showed us his love without jumping up on us, and he walked calmly by other dogs, geese, etc. It was a remarkable transformation!
That same day, I took Scout to an open house and an outdoor patio restaurant, and with our new shared language, he was a perfect angel in both these public settings, where I would never have even considered taking him before. Richard gave us advice on how to keep Scout’s training going even in the context of our busy lives when we couldn’t be around him at all times. When we met with new challenges that we hadn’t asked Richard to address (e.g. meeting our baby cousins), Richard responded to our questions via text and provided specific and easy advice to train him to be calm in these new and different situations.
Scout walks by my side now, doesn’t pull on the leash, and pays attention to me rather than other dogs. I used to turn around, take alternate routes, and schedule walks so I wouldn’t have to pass other dogwalkers, but now I don’t have to worry. I can even tie Scout’s short, 3’ leash (which Richard gave us) to my belt and walk Scout hands-free while I enjoy the scenery. I look forward to walking Scout in a way I never had before.
Something Richard said when he brought Scout back to us really stuck with me: that it’s our duty to train our dogs. If our dogs are barking, unruly, or anxious, they are suffering, and if we don’t do something about it, we fail them as owners. I truly don’t believe I know a dog that couldn’t benefit from Richard’s training and have already recommended K9 Reset to 4 or 5 of my dog-owning friends and neighbors. More...

Thank you Eileen! You have everything you need to have the best relationship with Augie, keep on him, he'll be fine. Any questions, I'm just a text away:)
Richard contacted me right away when I submitted on Bark, which was perfect for me since I decided to put my dog in board and train a week prior to leaving on a trip since I didn’t trust my 6 month mini sheepadoodle puppy with anyone (he was still finding any/everything to chew).
We had an hour and half orientation, and I have never felt so comfortable leaving my puppy (who is my child) with anyone.
From the moment I left Miko and heard his howling out the window, I began to question if I did the right thing. Within and hour, Rich sent me a video of how calm he was and content, and being treated for it. I knew then I/he would be just fine for the week. While away, Rich continued to send me pics and videos of progress and I couldn’t believe how well my Miko was doing in such short time. He wasn’t a horrible dog, but a puppy who needed training that I just don’t have the time or tools to give him. I even called one time to check in and just can’t explain how relieved I was hearing what he was learning. When I went to pick Miko up, Rich spent and hour with me going over tools to use and what Miko learned. I began to realize I was letting my dog run my life at home and things needed to change on my end. Rich understands and is compassionate for owners since he is one and has been through it himself.
We continue to talk almost daily on checkins and he is there for any questions I have to make sure Miko is getting the proper owner teaching now too
I can’t say enough good things about my experience and I would recommend k9 Reset to anyone! Truly a great experience all around! More...
