K9 Reset

So it's 90 days post training with Rich. My neighbor just stopped me on the street and said "my goodness your dog seems so relaxed! What happened?"

I thought I had great control over my 4 yr old rescue dog until in recent months she started to become very reactive to other dogs on the leash. I live in downtown Salem, so the last thing I can or want to do is avoid people and their pets. And because she had grown up as a puppy on the streets of Houston, Texas she was given to eating absolutely ANYTHING! I've had her in the emergency room 3 times this year and was worried that the next trip would be fatal. I had so seclude her when I had company because she would just surf the counters for food and make everyone uncomfortable. I was also losing recall; she was startingto ignore me. So I was afraid I would not be able to get her to respond to me in an emergency situation. I was desperate and lucky to find Rich!

Rich is amazing! Within minutes of our first meeting he could tell that my timid by nature dog had become quite dominant in the relationship. The more fearful I became of her behavior, the more reactive and protective she became of me! The first time we met we started with the choke collar. I hate the name because the whole point of using it is to have a very loose hold on the leash and not to ever choke your dog. After one meeting Rich sent us away to practice. At our second meeting he showed us how to work with the eCollar. This is another tool that has a bad reputation because people don't know how to use it appropriately. Rich was a fantastic instructor!

Finally, we started week-long over night training. I was really hesitant to leave her, because we had already had to get over abandonment issues when I first adopted her. For a dog that can be quite timid around people, especially men, she had no hesitation going to Rich or watching me walk out the door. She knew he was safe! Rich sent me short videos each day to show how she was responding to training, and getting along overall.

When I picked her up at weeks end, rich worked with us giving me specific details on how to work with the tools she had been trained with. The first couple weeks I was not a 100% consistent. UntiI I realized she thought the rules applied only when Rich was around. She was beginning to slip back into undesirable behavior. I got the message quickly that I had to stick with the plan if I really wanted to see success; not only for the time and investment, but for our relationship and overall happiness day to day.

Its 90 days later and I use the tools regularly. Although she is responding to commands quicker without there use. She's become quite a "good citizen" and will actually wait patiently with food in front of her until I give her the release command to eat it. I can leave the room and come back and she's still sitting there waiting patiently! Still, I realize she's a dog and by nature she will test me again, but I have the tools, language and commands to help her get back on track.

Rich checks regularly and I've been able to reach out to him when I have a question. Most recently Rich suggested working with a remote camera so that I can monitor her when I'm not there. (She likes to get into my closet and she has ruined several coats.)

Rich is an excellent trainer. My husky Loki was a spoiled dog and was allowed to do whatever he wants. So he had a lot of behavioral issues and could care less about what I wanted him to do. Our walks weren’t great, he listened to commands when he feels like it, loves to mark, he also escaped a couple times by removing his harness/leash, and jumping. After a week with Rich our walks have improved drastically. He actively checks in with me when we walk, listens more to commands, and is better in public spaces (less marking, easier to control, less reactivity to dogs and small animals). So glad I found K9 reset. I contacted Richard for help with my 1 year old dog Archie (yorkie). I was having a hard time having him follow simple commands and our walks were terrible. My dog would bark at other dogs as soon as he saw them. It seemed the only way to have a peaceful walk was to walk him at night so that we wouldn’t encounter other dogs. After contacting Richard, he explained the services that he offered, we agreed that boarding would be best in our case. Our shih-tzu is incredibly stubborn and impossible to train through standard approaches (treats, toys, praise). We sent him to Rich for a week of boarding/training. Rich dramatically improved our dog’s receptiveness to following commands, taught him multiple commands, and even more impressively, improved his confidence to the point where is no longer skittish around people or most other dogs and has stopped nearly all nuisance barking. The best trainer ever!

I was heartbroken, thinking i may have had to give up my beloved tiny companion, a one and a half year old Yorkie. She barked at everything, woke me up barking at 4 am , attacked visitors to my home, attacked people on the street while on her leash, bit people’s ankles, including my children and grandchildren. She barked out of the car windows, and basically attacked anyone who came near me.

Rich saved my dog by educating ME about how dogs think. I began to understand that she thought she had to protect me, and as such was always on duty.
MY behavior had to change so that she could relax. There were many things I could change .

I had two training sessions with Rich to help me manage a dog reactive dog with bad recall. We had tried other training methods (clicker training in group classes, private instruction, daycare with training) and none were helping me have more control over my dog or lessening her anxiety when approached by other dogs (which triggers her aggression).

I found K9 Reset via Google search. It was easy to set up a call with Rich to describe my situation and talk about options. As I have an adult dog I've had for 4 years now who recently developed some issued, I didn't want to move immediately into the board and train.
I immediately appreciated Rich's flexibility to work with me as a private lesson client open to possibly boarding my dog with him after we'd done some basic training.

We did sessions with a prong collar and e-collar. I was interested in the e-collar from meeting other dog owners who'd had success with it, but I was nervous to try to 'teach myself' how to use it.
Rich walked me through how and when to use both during our sessions. We've only had the e-collar for about a month, and I'm taking things slowly, but I'm seeing these tools start to work. Rich gave extremely helpful hands-on instruction, gave me manageable homework to do, and checks in periodically to see how we're doing. After a detailed search I decided to inquire with Rich about training for our 15 month lab/hound rescue.
Addie came to us by way of GA where she spent the beginning if her life chained to a tree, no training and I. The elements of GA weather with no shelter. She had no interest in praise, treats or rewards. She had an extremely high prey drive with extreme pulling on leash and a zest to escape and run away at the slightest moment.
After meeting Rich for a couple of private lessons we decided to send her to him for one week of “overnight camp” or boot camp.
I believe my words were “she has run away 8 times I’m sure we are just giving you a donation.” Was I wrong! Addie responds so well to him. He had her working hard-mentally. Every video we received was better than the one before. Especially leash free trail walking and running while he was biking.
Picking her up we still weren’t convinced one week had changed her. We realized it was us that needed the changing. We had to maintain his methods at home to optimize success. Two weeks later we had her in Vermont, NH and Maine all leash free, happy and obeying commands. It’s a work in progress. Mostly for us. We could not be more thrilled in our progress and hers.

I brought my dog to K9 reset for board & train as a young puppy. Rich was extremely helpful in walking us through the basics of what I needed for my dog. He was very patient and attentive to my dog’s needs and my questions! My female Cane Corso, at 5 months old, spent one week with Richard in January. Prior to training, she was impossible to walk on a leash and was stubborn about coming in the house when called. Sending my puppy Cyan to K9 reset is one of the best decisions I made for her! Richard really knows what he’s doing and understands dogs very well. We rescued our dog from Alabama back in October. I grew up with dogs and was so happy to have him. Well he took over my house. I couldn’t get him to listen. He eat everything. My furniture was his. He nipped at everyone. Walking him was hard but he was still such a sweet boy. I needed help. I was out in contact with Rich. He was so nice and knowledgeable. You could see he loved doing what he did. I decided to board for training. Best thing was not only did Sawyer get training so did I. I recently sent Rich a picture of my couch. I have a wonderful English Springer Spaniel , my 3rd ESS. They are a willful but teachable breed.
Rich helped me to communicate more effectively with my young dog. He has a thoughtful and tried and true method to teach canine and owners alike~ truly the best experience. I met Rich and then had my dog stay with him so she would gain consistent support and then I was taught to follow through. I had sent one of my dogs (4 male) to Rich when I noticed that after my other dog (1 male) was attacked by a dog on one of our walks, all training went out the window for both dogs. We went in with both dogs for the prong and e collars and Rich made sure I knew exactly what I was doing to apply at home. My older dog went to stay with Rich for the board and train for a week to (as the name suggests) reset his thinking and get him back on track, while I used the tools with my other dog at home. When Bear came back there were noticeable differences and I had the tools to continue the same training at home. They both have made such huge improvements in just a few weeks, and Rich continues to check in on their progress and be a resource! Rich did a wonderful job in getting my dog to be more calm and obedient. Before he trained him. He would chew everything in sight and jump on anyone he saw. I’m glad I found Rich.

I have owned many dogs in my lifetime and have always trained them myself. The dog I have now is a German Shepherd and at my age 75 the puppy has way more energy than I remember. With all my other dogs I had very little trouble with them because I had patience and energy. Now I have neither.

We’ve had a loving, adorable and totally problem dog that we adopted as a puppy for 2 plus years. Ralph presents with extreme separation anxiety, whining, and scratching doors/furniture. He is also dog reactive to the point we have to limit his walks to odd hours of the day to avoid other dogs. Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t crate train him or leash train appropriately enough to give him the quality of life he deserves. Enter Rich… we found Rich from some online forums and liked his prior reviews. Rich is thoughtful, puts dog owners at ease, and his training is incredibly effective. The mini educator and Rich’s strict, but loving approach to training with it works like a charm! Rich was able to completely reset Ralph, take on the Herculean feat of crate and leash training him, and gave us an excellent start for his dog reactivity. K9 Reset has been the best decision we have made for both us as owners and our pup to live a calm, structured and happy life. Being such lovers of dogs and this being our first dog (a lab), we did a lot of things that are not the right things; gave our pup the world with lack of structure. We were slowly losing control of our day-to-day with him, and the main reason for doing this training was so we as dog owners can properly train our boy in order to give him the structure he needs. Rich was fantastic to work with. While Munch was at a week of board and train, Rich communicated everyday with texts and videos that showed us him working with Munch. Very smart way to train us to know how to get the same results once Munch came home. Rich provided a list of the commands he uses and what they meant so we are consistent. I highly recommend Rich as the work he did with my ten month old Chesapeake was incredible. It is a stubborn breed and Rich has familiarity with it through his brother-in-law. I am so happy that we brought our beagle Meri over to Rich. He did a wonderful job training both her and us! She is 2 1/2 and spent her early life in captivity so she really behaved like a puppy, with some bad habits like chewing electrical cords and shredding paper. Rich trained her and us in the use of the e-collar, and she responds great to that, but it is even more amazing that we don't need to push the button very often. Rich at K9 Reset is a really skilled and disciplined dog trainer. I met Rich at the dog park area in Salem where he was training a puppy to sit still while dogs played within the fence of the park, and we’re coming in and out. When the pup didn’t move a muscle and even my 4 month old puppy greeted him, I knew Rich had something good going on with his training. I brought my 6 Mo. old puppy, Caddie to a consultation with Rich and everything just continued from there. He was really good with Caddie and we actually dropped Caddie off for a 7-day stay with Rich while we were away on summer vacation. Caddie came back a pretty transformed dog. Best decision I made was reaching out to Rich. First off, answered my call the first time I called and talked with me for about 15/20 mins. The process was seamless and was upfront of what I was going to get with him. I did the board and train for my German shepherd puppy and I can honestly say I was amazed how much structure he gave her. The best part of about the whole process was Rich would send over videos of her and the progress she was making. Rich contacted me when I had been searching for board & train services for my pup. My main concerns were working on her intense anxiety and leash reactivity. Rich was very informative and helpful during the initial phone call, the subsequent consultation, and the e-collar training prior to the board and train. He was extremely knowledgeable and great at breaking down everything we needed to know and coaching us on how to implement things into our routine at home. Rich was amazing to work with. He really took the time to understand what we were trying to accomplish with our young Boston Terrier and explained everything thoroughly. Our puppy was obedient, but needed some behavioral work to cut out some bad habits and to be more attentive to listen. With a baby on the way we made the plunge forward with the training and I wish we did it earlier! The techniques Rich teaches the dogs and owners really does work and now we can walk Kray with no issue and have him understand not everything in on his terms and not everywhere is a playground. I was looking for a dog trainer for 2 weeks of board and train for our puppy. I was contacted by Rich and am very happy that he did so. After an initial visit (which was free), we felt very comfortable leaving our puppy with him. Rich has a very calming demeanor and explains things very well. Our dog was very well trained for a 5 month dog. And we are quite happy with our experience. Rich was unbelievable to work with! He has an incredible calm and demeanor. At the last minute, he took my 9 month old puppy because his behaviors were so concerning. After one week with Rich, my boy came home a completely different dog. Not only does my dog continue to do as he has been trained, but the family is so much happier. Five stars all the way. Rich is a great guy, excellent communicator, knows his stuff when it comes to dog training and has a very professional program and approach. From our first introductory phone call we did with him, to pre-meetings before the board and train that we did, everything was purposeful, well explained and moving us 2 steps closer to having a more peaceful pup. We brought our 11 month old sheepadoodle through Rich’s program and it the end result was amazing. Rich got our puppy to a great place, where he was calm and had a new way of communicating with us and understanding what we were asking (e.g., enough, leave it, place). That one week had such an impact on our house and how all 6 of us interacted with Max. 4 weeks later we are still amazed and awestruck at how Max continues to listen and learn new things. From our first introduction with Rich, I could see how passionate and well-informed he is, regarding dog-training. He made Willie and me quite at ease , while helping Willie get used to the pinch collar. He had him comfortable and complying, within a couple of minutes, after helping him through his initial apprehension. Rich was extremely patient and gentle, letting Willie know that he was in good hands . I immediately felt comfortable, after feeling quite anxious about leaving him with a total stranger. I was not successful, at home, getting him to get into a crate . Now , after his week with Rich, he has no problem with that and now seems to like his crate , sleeping through the night and fine with crating when I leave him for a couple of hours.
