My 1st time visit... The food was tasty, well seasoned and plenty of choices. Gerald was the most patient server, polite and came several time to check on the table. The 1st serving of Lamb was extremely over cooked and was replaced immediately upon request. The server during Happy hour was professional and quick in the service he provided.Will I return, yes, I had an enjoyable time. Everything was delicious, cooked perfectly, and seasoned nicely. The atmosphere is great and the staff were superb. I live in the South and sometimes when you travel north they'll be restaurants claiming to have southern cuisine that don't come close anywhere near close to it. Not the case here! Highly recommend!! First off I'd like to say that the live jazz music at South is so soothing and complimentary to your meal. The service from the staff was just right even with a factor of being busy. The Lancaster roasted chicken served here hits the spot with the cornbread. The cornbread is insanely delicious. Besides the food though, South is perfect to meet new people. I actually met my girlfriend here and we have been dating for 6 months. We always go there together as it was the place where we met. The vibe is unmatchable and it is our favorite place to eat now. I first found this place by searching for a Jazz Bar on Google and they showed up first. I wasn't sure what to expect so I actually checked out this virtual tour I found on Google and their website which showed the inside of the venue, so I knew what to expect when I got there. I like sitting close to the performers so I knew from their tour where the best seating was so I could show up early and order before the show started. A colleague was in town and I knew that they were a jazz lover as myself, so I suggested a place that I myself had not had the pleasure of visiting myself! I've driven past this location numerous times and I've read the reviews but still hadn't found an opportunity to go.Well I will tell you that I have been depriving myself of a great time! Anytime I try a new place I like to go on an off night so I can get the full experience! Man oh man! South did not disappoint! The seared scallops over black-eyed peas and rice.... what!?!?! We have been here 3 times now. Our favorite place to eat on North Broad. My husband is from the South and is very critical of grits, cornbread and other traditional Southern food made by Northeners and says South's versions are the best he has ever had. Definitely get the cornbread.

We went for the Sunday Jazz Brunch and the food was fantastic, we ordered the salmon Benedict and chicken and waffles. Also ordered an Eve's Garden, also excellent. Great atmosphere when you walk in, beautiful decor. The live Jazz band makes it even better, but a little disappointed with the food. The Chicken and Waffles -chicken was a little dry but not to the point where I couldn't eat it. Southern breakfast- Turkey bacon was dry, everything needed a little more salt and pepper or spice. We ended up ordering the items our waiter suggested and everything was excellent. The music was great; loud enough to enjoy but, not too loud so we didn't have to yell at each other or the waiter. The staff was very courteous and professional from the door to the chef behind the counter who took the time to explain some of the seasoning choices and water options.
