Had lunch here today.  Website is a little unclear but the dining room IS open at 12 noon on Fridays. We started with the large meatball, French onion soup and caprese salad. Entrees were chicken parm, chicken piccata and Tuscan shortribs. Everything was delicious and service was prompt and pleasant. More...

I recently visited Joseph's Italian Steakhouse with 2 of my colleagues. We decide to dine at the bar which had ample room for eating. Bartender Kim waited on us for our cocktails and dinner. She is an excellent mixologist and our cocktails were made to our exact specifications. For dinner we all decided to have  prime rib dinner. The meat was served exactly as ordered and exceptionally tender with delicious flavor. I had perfectly baked potato and a side of cream spinach which was wonderful. We all shared a fine bottle of wine with our meals and it was very reasonably priced. Our whole experience was very satisfying and we cannot wait to return to try some of the other choices on the menu. Dinning at the bar is a great option for those who are alone and are uncomfortable sitting at a table by themselves. Give it a try, you will not regret the experience. More...

Food and atmosphere was so good I had to open up a Yelp account and leave a review.  My wife and I (Pa residents) decided to spend the day in Hudson Valley.  Long story short after checking out the Vanderbilt mansion it was time to eat.  Checking my phone to see what was around, I was pleasantly surprised to find a steakhouse just a few miles down the road.First, the restaurant was spotless.  We were quickly greeted and seated.  Opened the menu and was pleasantly surprised by the offering.  It had an outstanding selection of steaks and if you weren't in the mood for steak there was a plethora of Italian dishes to choose from.I had the mushroom soup to start.  It was one of the best I've ever had, mushrooms seemed like they we ground into the cream.  The flavor was infused throughout.  I choose the NY strip and the better half had salmon for our main entrees.  We couldn't stop talking about how good our food was, an absolute home run.Our server Bill was very attentive and you can tell it was important to him that we enjoyed our experience.  We met the owner, Joseph who also checked in on us.  Super nice people.  Great family feel. After dinner Joseph gave us a tour of the beautiful outside deck complete with a bar and waterfall.  They have plans to enclose it for outdoor winter dining.  He also shared some history of the place.  It actually had ties to Eleanor Roosevelt.  Long review, especially for my first one, I am just trying to get across how great this place was.  If your in or traveling thru the Hudson you have to stop here, you won't be disappointed.  We can't wait to get back there.  Thanks Joseph's for a wonderful dining experience. What a great place. Tried this place during Marist family weekend. It was outstanding. As an Italian I know meatballs. The meatball app is the best meatball I ever had. For dinner I had the prime rib. It was fantastic. The best part was the service. Old school great attentive service. Owner visits each table and chats (nice guy). We ate inside but I saw their heated outdoor area /bar.will definitely be back. This place rates #1 in my book. More...

My husband and I went to JIS yeasterday as part of our 'date day'. We live a few doors down so we were excited to see it reopen. Every piece of food put on our table was amazing. All the way from presentation to taste and textures. Food and Drinks were served at a really good pace. (we ordered drinks, app, meals) A woman named Dina took care of us, checking in frequently and making sure we had everything we needed and clearing the table often to make sure we had enough room. We did sit outside for dinner. We chose to sit by the water feature which was super relaxing. The patio area, as it got darker had lights come on, all of which had warm lighting which made the atmosphere super comfortable and romantic. The patio also has a bar, TVs by the bar, ceiling fans, plants and different table heights (regular and tall). After dinner, we decided to move it inside to the bar. Sitting at the Sinatra Bar was really relaxing. It's a mix of a modern cozy sports bar. We were happy to learn that they had a different bar menu for foods. (it's a simple menu but it's really good in the aspect of 'bar food') Kim was the bar tender. She was knowledgeable about what was behind the bar as well as the various menu's JIS has to offer. She filled us in on specials, hours and their 3-6 deals and what they offer for brunch at 11am on sunday! (this menu was a good blend of breakfast and lunch style items all for a good price.) While at JIS we checked out the whole building and I'm please to say (and they did just open) but it was clean. Both the mens and ladies rooms were spotless. All of the floors looked clean. Table tops, Bar tops, glassware and decorative fixtures were free of dust, watermarks and smudges. We plan on going back often. More...

My friend and I waiting maybe 15min so we ordered a drink at the bar, the place was definitely busy. Reisling was very tasty. The ambience was very warm and family oriented, & all decorated for St Pattys day.My meal was spectacular, I started my app with the Honey shrimp over polenta, about 4 shrimp with honey balsamic goodness drizzled on it. For the entree I had the short ribs with red wine reduction over mushroom risotto, I almost licked the plate!! So delicious! I literally had to force myself to stop eating as we also had dessert to consider (go big or go home)!DESSERT OMG!!! RASPBERRY LEMON CAKE...again, almost licked the plate..all this for $33.95 folks, restaurant week doesnt get better than this! Bravo to a great meal and excellent service More...

We were there for the dinner and a show. The dinner and show was well priced. They started with oderves stuffed mushroom, fish and chip, burshetta, pigs in a blanket all good. We had our choice of Egg plant parm, Chicken Marsalis, or Braised short ribs. I had the chicken it was very good. Other's in my party had the ribs and also thought they were tasty. The only downfall was the lack of choice for children. Children can be fussy and the kids choice was baked Zitti. They also offered macaroni and cheese however it was strange. I almost felt it had cottage cheese in it. Again strange never bodes well with children. Over all the dinning experience and the show were great, they could use a little help on the kids menu for this particular dinner and a show package. We will be back maybe leave the kids at home next time. More...

We found this delightful steakhouse on Google maps so decided to give it a try. From the moment we walked in we felt like family. Our wonderful waitress Amy made us feel at home. She answered our numerous questions about the place then got Joseph himself to come to our table and share the history of the steakhouse. Part of it use to be a teahouse where Eleanor Roosevelt had tea with the Queen. We were so lucky it was prime rib special night so that's what we ordered. The meat was cooked to melt in your mouth perfection and seasoned just right. The garlic mash potatoes were excellent as well. The vegetable was fresh green beans and red peppers. Each bite made on sigh with how amazing it tasted. Try to save room for dessert, the variety and perfection of each will make you want them all. The evening was one we will never forget and if we are ever anywhere near we will repeat. We only wish Joseph could open a place in WA state. Thanks Joseph and Amy for a outstanding meal and your friendship. It is worth the drive from anywhere in NY or NJ. Thanks again, Karol, Scott and Harry. More...

There was something about this place - every time I drove past I felt like I should be there. For 3 years this went on and FINALLY one day I stopped. I had seen and heard that they did murder mystery dinners, comedy shows, etc. and had been thinking that this seemed like "my kind of place".....Yep, it is. First of all, Michael the bartender who has been with the restaurant since practically day 1, is someone I had done some catering events with years past, it was a pleasure to run into him again. Oh yeah, I put him to the test to make me a fancy drink with some Rye whiskey and he totally passed!! Joe (Joseph to you who have not patronized the establishment as of yet) was just as I had imagined - super friendly and welcoming and I felt like I had known him all my life as we sat together at the bar sharing pics of our animals in funny positions. So far we've got super-cool staff/owners and kick-ass cocktails! As my dining partner and I perused the menu and asked questions about what the best choices were, the carpaccio was recommended as an appetizer. My friend mentioned she has never had carpaccio (I'm still dumbfounded by this, btw) and we were told it was a damn good carpaccio so I nudged that we order it - "NO you won't get sick eating raw meat, it's good for you, the alcohol in those 2 cocktails you had will cook it". Well.....they weren't a kiddin'! That carpaccio WAS one of the best I've had and the recommendation on the pasta bolognese was spot on as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Joseph's and I WILL be going back, hopefully sooner rather than later. The place has an interesting history to it to boot, it's where Eleanor Roosevelt's tea room used to be.....as a matter of fact, the Queen of England has had tea here!. More...

People here seem to be raving about the French Onion Soup, but I thought it was just okay (as some other reviewers have noted, a bit watered down). I got the 8 oz Hamburger, which was very good, the meat was cooked just too perfection and still a little juicy. The Steak and Sausage Bolognese was average, would not recommend. The reason this place gets four stars is easily because of the EXCELLENT service we had there, by far the best wait and bar staff I've encountered in any kind of restaurant. For this reason alone, I'd come back (and maybe actually order a steak this time around, they looked delicious). More...

You'd have a tough time finding another restaurant similar to Joseph's in the Hudson Valley. Part of that is, of course, the menu. But another part is the ambiance that comes with the dining experience. It is a much more relaxed atmosphere than many of the bigger steakhouses in larger cities. We came here during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, so besides the regular menu, the Restaurant Week menu was available. This was, IMO, a good deal, because it was essentially your entree plus appetizer and dessert for about the same price. My dining companion asked about substituting a vegetable for the potatoes with his entree and was told there were no substitutions for the Restaurant Week menu. We were fine with this because they were up front about it, but they neglected to mention that your entree came with a portion of steamed vegetables anyway. For the appetizer, we both chose the butternut squash bisque. This had a very strong nutmeg presence - good if you like nutmeg, unexpected if you don't. For my prime rib, I requested medium and was told the prime ribs were typically served medium rare. I'm sure if I insisted, I could have asked for it medium, or I could have asked for an end cut if possible, but I went with their recommendation and was satisfied. It was a perfect rare, juicy but not bloody, and yes, I could cut it with a fork. The short rib, on the other hand, while delicious, was a bit fatty.   I appreciated that Joseph visited each table, and you can tell he takes pride in his restaurant. He was a bit taken aback about the comment on the short rib, but he was very polite about it even though we sensed an "I don't know if I believe you" reaction from him. Service was casual and steady, and that was actually a nice break from the ultra-professional waitstaff presence you get at larger steakhouses. For me, a restaurant steak dinner is typically a once or twice a year thing. But the daily specials and Sunday brunch at Joesph's provide enough variety in your options. More...
