Long over due review. Many thanks to stylist James Staley. I heard through friend in the entertainment field to consider Mr Staley at Joseph Lamar Salon in Burbank, and am I glad I did. Twelve countries and three months later, the bright blue and pink streaks set in peek-a-boo with balayage highlights really helped my hair transform between professional workplace to european vacation that needed tucking up from time to time when in conservative towns. Also got the Brazilian hair straightening with a fun layered cut that still lets me bun my hair into a ball with a french twist (important since on field often and must use pencil to set sometimes). I would have posted sooner but two loved ones hit the great beyond, and while in funeral service, all I could think of was how deserving I was for a spa day, and when I'd get back to town, I'd reserve a slot because hair treatment also seems to come with my kind of talk therapy! I went somewhere so my wife could get a free haircut. My cutter James was a really good guy. He gave me a good haircut. $35 for a haircut to me was a little pricey. Then again I'm a guy. Anything over $20 bucks for me seems like a waste of money for a haircut. The staff is friendly the Cutters know what they are doing and it's been around for a long time. I've been getting lash extensions by Elisa and she is a GEM! My lashes were unhealthy and damaged by another lash tech, so she started me on lash rehab by putting me on a lash serum.   She brought my natural lashes back and then some!  Once my lashes grew amazingly, she added lash extensions which made me literally look 10 years younger.  No joke!  My husband LOVES my new look.  Lashes really do make you look more youthful & refreshed.  Elisa is the best!  She actually cares about my lashes and educates me on extensions.  A lash nerd, haha.  Her service room is adorable and SPOTLESS which I for one appreciate.  OH and her lash extensions are top quality (no shiny extensions like the ones I see on some people in public).  One year later with her and my lashes are still rockin-sexy!  Thank you, Elisa!! Long over due! So I recently had a facial from Kris at the salon (Touched By An Angel) I must say the best!!! I left glowing! !! Kris really takes her time so welcoming , like I'm at home with a friend. I went in for hydro facial definitely will be back again!!!! I'm telling you if you want to have super soft glowing skin then I highly recommend the hydro facial it's extremely hydrating!! I just love the way Kris takes her time no rush very detailed in her work. Greetings YELPERS!I want to start this review by saying that this only the second review I have ever done after being on YELP for quite sometime. I say this because I want to communicate the fact that I am not one to just write a review for the sake of it. Me taking the time and putting my name to a review is because I am 100% plus  genuine and sincere about it.So now that I have that out of the way let me try to find enough positive words to describe Joseph Lamar Salon and my experience since I have discovered them.If you want to take a minute to click on my pics you will see that I have naturally curly hair and as you can see in my pic above it is blown out and fresh! I took this pic in the parking lot of Joseph Lamar after my first visit. A picture speaks louder than a thousand words right?I am 55 years old and I have been going to the same woman for all my hair care needs since I was 20 years old. Literally 35 years and NO ONE other than her has touched my hair until this past year beginning in the Summer of 2017.  Well I knew that she wants to retire in 2018 and so I had to begin to try and find someone who could do my hair the way I like it done. Please know that I am very fussy and very particular about my hair.I decided to use Groupon to try different places without having to spend a fortune. I found lots of deals, some were like 3 Blowouts for $50 or 1 for $20 stuff like that, all kinds of high end salons, and small two person shops and Blow Bars etc. After trying so many and being terribly disappointed. I mean a couple were so bad that I had 2 more Blow Outs to use on my Groupon and I did not even bother to go back it was BAD OUT THERE!Then just as I was about to give up I found Viktoria at Joseph Lamar and OMG!!!!! I feel like I have won the Hair Salon Lottery Jackpot!! Viktoria is young enough to be my daughter and she has the hands and skill set of a seasoned hair dresser. I believe she could do my hair blindfolded that's how amazing she is! I thought to myself she is the one, she is young and talented and she is perfect and she will outlive me so this is it. Well then I needed an appointment and Viktoria was out and I took a chance with another stylist named Penny and BOOM! She did a FANTASTIC job on my hair I mean flawless. I had to pinch myself to be sure I wasn't dreaming. Did i actually find two amazingly talented hair stylist in the same salon could it be? Well I am thrilled to tell you it is true and I could not be more grateful and more relieved and happy that I found my way to Joseph Lamar Salon. Lastly I want to add that the Salon itself is such a lovely place to get your hair done. It is clean and bright and welcoming, all the staff are so friendly and helpful and really mean it when they say good morning. It is decorated so nice and the ambiance is perfect. They have coffee and pastries, its roomy and again its oh so CLEAN! If your anything like me and are picky about your hair care and you appreciate good quality talented and gifted hair stylist and a salon that reflects owner pride and that really appreciates your business. Ask for James! He is wonderful! As soon as I arrived he asked me exactly what I wanted. He asked me what I loved about my hair and what I wanted to change and helped me figure out how to be care for my hair. The cut he gave me is flawless! It's been two weeks since my appointment with him and I couldn't be happier. James is very nice and honestly cares about what you want and how to keep your hair healthy. I'm Soooo glad I I found this place, and the stylist who did my hair, James. I live up the street and had been walking by for years, always curious, but never felt up to trusting a new person to do my hair. I'm half-african american and I work in entertainment, so I like to have a stylist that can cut curly hair and that's up-to-date on trends but isn't going F#!*/ up my hair, AND that isn't bat-shit cray, high, or boring. I got baylage highlights and a layered cut and it turned out awesome! I've been coming to James for all my hair needs for a few years now, and have followed him to 3 different salons. When I was terrified of bleaching my hair, after another awful stylist ruined my hair with bleach years ago, he comforted me, talked me through it and assured me my hair would be fine. The other stylist never spoke to me about the dangers of bleaching box dyed hair, but James explained everything in detail, and after finally growing all the box dye out of my hair,  I trusted him to give me the color I'd been wanting for years,  but was too afraid to try. Made an appointment for my daughter to get a cut from James. He came highly recommended by my niece who had her cut and color done by him and loved it. My daughter has thick long hair so I'm pretty picky on who handles her cuts. The salon is bright and open and very clean. Very friendly greeting at arrival. Was offered coffee and pastry which I couldn't pass up of course. James was very friendly and personable. Came straight to Maddie and said hi. She's 15 and it's nice that she was greeted first since she technically is the client. I'm just the bank. :) he sat her down and talked to her trying to get to know her likes/dislikes in regards to her hair. Loved the interaction and you can tell he cares about his clients. Not just cut and go. I sat next to them and we all chatted throughout...especially about cats. He did a long layered cut and it turned out better than the picture I showed him as a sample. My daughter got her hair colored by Victoria and she did an amazing job.  It was my teenage daughter's first time coloring her hair and my daughter wanted an ombre, but then she chose something a little more subtle and we showed a picture to Victoria of what she wanted and she did it exactly how it was pictured.  She did an amazing job and created a subtle yet vibrant look with my daughter's hair.  Beautiful work!!! I don't usually write reviews not sure why but I don't.  But I felt I had to let you know how amazing this Salon is.  The 3 things that are most important in a salon iare Great Stylists, Fair  Prices and the Vibe of the Salon and ladies you know what I mean. From the moment you walk in and are greeted by the Receptionist you feel so welcome and great.  The salon has a wonderful flow and just looks great.  Now for the really important thing.  I have had my hair done by two stylists here at Joseph Lamar and both of them were so amazing in listening to what I wanted and taking into account that I to go home and do what they did myself.   They gave me so many tips for my type of hair (Limp and do nothing) that when I went home and used these simple tips, I  HAD TOTALLY DIFFERENT HAIR. I could not believe it and never at any other Salon had anyone taken the time to ask me how I was styling my hair or what products I was using and not to sell their products !!!!  Both of these Stylists really wanted me to go home and be able to recreate what they did.  I have thyroid issues which really takes a toll on hair and doing the few things my Stylist suggested made all the difference in the world, I am so sorry it took me so long to find Joseph Lamar.  I can tell you everyone is amazing in this Salon because as I am processing my color I love to watch the Stylists work but my Stylist Govi I have to say is so talented in cutting and color, really takes the time to listen to you and see what is going on with your hair and is a really warm and wonderful person, I wish I had to go more often.LOLWhat Stylist will say when you go in "Well you really could wait a few more weeks on your color"  Not many !!!!!Please try this Salon, you will not be disappointed, they are talented artists, nice people, the Reception Staff is amazing and friendly and you will come out a new person.    Joyce. i heard that there are a few stylist who would style your hair for free if you're donating (locks of love), and while i was searching really hard for this person, penney called me back and said she would love to do it. she immediately set up my appointment and the moment i arrived everything felt comfortable. the ladies in the front were very welcoming and were thrilled that i was donating my hair. they were actually glad that i mentioned locks of love because they were brainstorming ideas on how else they can reach out to other organizations, which brought up the offer they currently had which is donate $10 to breast cancer awareness for 1 strand of pink hair extension. so not only am i donating 12" of my hair, but i get to add a little pink to the mix which was fun (two birds with one stone). i never feel at ease when i cut my hair especially when it's this much of my hair i'm chopping off because it never is what i imagined it to be. and having a new hair styles is also worrisome, but penney made this transition easy. she was very social, and looking at everyone's interaction in the salon this place felt like a very close knit environment that's easily welcoming to others. penney was very skilled with my hair style and didnt just rush me out the door. overall result, i love my hair. for the first time i loved looking at my new hair style, and even though it was a totally new look for me, penney made my hair fit my round face. i can officially say that i have a go-to stylist with skills and a great heart. she will definitely be my referral in social conversations.
