I first became aware of Jon G's BBQ on Instagram, when I saw someone kept tagging them in their posts. I moved to Charlotte from Austin so as soon as I saw that Jon G's serves their bbq with white bread, pickles, and onions (instead of hush puppies as is customary in NC), I knew I had to give this food truck a try. I immediately followed their IG account and began stalking them on social media. I saw that their next Charlotte event was in three weeks (at The Chamber, Wooden Robot in NoDa) so I marked it on my calendar and the countdown began. Let me tell you, this bbq did not disappoint! We ordered the brisket platter with jalapeno cheese grits and mac n cheese and the pulled pork sandwich with slaw. Brisket - delicious!!! Texas style bbq with a Texas style bbq sauce. It's on par with the brisket at Noble Smoke. We ordered a mixture of fatty and lean.Jalapeno cheese grits - amazing. Put this on your must try list. The little bit of heat from the jalapenos really added to the complexity of the dish. I couldn't get enough. The mac n cheese was solid and very tasty. Next time I will try a different side (probably the baked beans or mexican street corn), but I have no problem recommending this!Pickles and pickled onions - both are homemade, which I really appreciate. I wish the pickles had been pickled a little longer and had more of a pickle-y/briny flavor instead of a cucumber flavor. That's my only recommendation for improvement (a very minor one all things considered). Pulled pork sandwich with slaw - fantastic. I am still thinking about this sandwich--it's that memorable. The slaw provided some crunch, the bun was super soft and fresh. The pulled pork was actually pulled and not the stringy mush you sometimes get. I added some pickles and pickled onion to the sandwich and it pushed it over the top. (It doesn't come with pickles and onions so maybe they'll give you some if you ask nicely.)Order at the truck and they bring the food to you where you're sitting. Not only amazing BBQ but you must try all of there sides and dessert. We used them for an event and our guests were raving about the food. After waiting about a year to give Jon G's a try they finally made it North to Heist Brewery at Camp North End. If your a fan of BBQ regardless of regional preferences Jon G's is worth seeking out. While there are plenty of options for chopped pork in Charlotte you don't often find excellent beef, pork, & ribs in one place. There are a few notable exceptions including the Smoke Pit in Concord and Midwood Smokehouse in Charlotte both of which produce excellent cue, but Jon G's may just have the edge over these purveyors of pork and beef. Jon G's brisket was perfectly seasoned and smoked and reasonably priced as well. Choose from the fatty point or the leaner flat or do as I did and mix it up with 50/50 split. The meat from the point contains much more fat which produces a tender melt in your mouth product while the flat is much leaner. Both were excellent this day but what surprised me was the St. Louis Style Pork Ribs which had a great bite not falling off the bone (which is an indication of being over cooked) and a nice sweet finish to compliment the peppery bark from the dry rub. If you want fall of the bone ribs then go to Chili's. The pulled pork was spot on as well, no BBQ sauce was needed on any of our meats this day, as they say in Texas if the meat is good sauce should not be required.Food: 5 SporksService: 4 Sporks (Its a truck but the food came out quick)Atmosphere: 4 Sporks (again its a truck but hey we were at a brewery)Local Beer: 0 SporksValue: 4 Sporks More...

We had Jon G's out at our school for a food truck and movie night fundraiser, and the barbecue was incredible! Lots of positive feedback from our guests as well. I've tried most of the highly rated barbecue restaurants in the Charlotte area, and Jon G's tops them all. Phenomenal brisket, pulled pork, and sides. This afternoon I ate Jon G's Pork BBQ, as well as the brisket - they were both scrumptious! I also tasted all 4 sides, baked beans, cole slaw, mac n cheese and the jalapeno cheese grits - (all of which are made from scratch), they were all awesome!
