John Tarnoff, Executive & Career Transition Coach
Your dream job is actually the job you are best qualified for. It's the job where you're most inspired, most committed, and most productive.
The trick is figuring out exactly what that job is. You need to define and express its usefulness and its value.
It needs to line up with everything you've done, learned, and want to achieve.
If you can communicate this value proposition, others will support you. With up to 80% of jobs filled through referrals, you want to use your network to get connected and introduced to the jobs and to the people who will recognize you as the person they're looking for.
If you're willing to dig deep and explore this process to the fullest, you'll create a career strategy that will sustain you throughout your life. While it won't insulate you from the ups and downs of today's volatile economy, it will make you more resilient and more resourceful in managing and directing your career.
As we get older, we naturally seek more meaning and purpose in our lives and careers. We want our careers to align with who we are.
I got that wake-up call at 50 when my tech startup cratered following the 90s tech bubble collapse. I knew that I had to make a big change. So I decided to go back to school to earn a Master's degree in Spiritual Psychology. That experience inspired me to pivot to a second-act career focused on education, coaching, and training.
Over my 35-year career in entertainment and tech, I half-joke that I was fired 39% of the time. But those setbacks taught me how to turn misfortune into opportunity, and opportunity into success.
My experiences taught me resilience, but they also taught me compassion and gave me the insight and intuition that I am able to bring to each client session.
As a career coach. I help my clients through the key transitions and obstacles that occur from mid to late career and often derail us just as we're coming into our greatest mastery and ability in our 40s and 50s.
My book, "Boomer Reinvention: How to Create Your Dream Career Over 50," launched on CBS This Morning, and has become a resource for all generations looking to gain more control over their careers.
My biggest thrill is helping my clients synthesize the experience and wisdom they've gained, and create their own sustainable career strategy.
How well-positioned are you to deal with your next career transition? Do you know where you want to be 5 or 10 years down the road? More importantly, do you know how you're going to get there?
I would be happy to explore these questions with you!
