After seeing the high ratings we decided to stop here for dinner on our way to Cedar Rapids. We got the fatty brisket and the ribs with Mac and cheese, cornbread and fries. Let's start with the brisket. We are BBQ people. My husband smokes brisket all the time. We know the texture, the flavor, the smokiness that brisket is supposed to have after being in the smoker for 12+ hours. This brisket severely lacked in all three areas. It was thinly sliced, had "grill marks" on each piece, was covered in sauce and still had no flavor. I have never been served brisket smothered in sauce with grill marks. My daughter wouldn't even finish her sandwich. Super disappointing. My son enjoyed the ribs and the fries were really good. The Mac and cheese was ok and the corn bread tasted burnt. Solid bbq in regards to pork. Edges out Mosleys as my go to for a pulled pork sandwich, which as we all know is the perfect driving food, second only to a banana.

Damn fine bbq spot for lunch, traveling from St Louis to Minneapolis. Great pulled pork sandwich, which I ate while sampling all of the bbq sauces - not with quite the high heat I love best. BBQ chicken salad was surprising great - huge portion for chicken and salad with a tasty Italian house dressing. So carnivore or not, you'll find something for a good lunch at Jimmy Jack's ... Truth in advertising, Jack and I had lockers next to each other all through high school. Even though we're friends, I can honestly say Jimmy Jack's is the REAL DEAL. I'd never tried their BBQ until tonight. Among the best I've had and I've been all over Texas, Memphis, NC, and KC. Iowa is not particularly known for BBQ, but these guys NAILED it! Love all their sauces: original..sweet and those that don't like it hot will like this, cowboy..tangy and hot, fire... hot but not for the super hot lovers. My favorite is the fatty beef with provolone cheese. I often order the baked beans by the quart and brisket or shredded pork by the pound, this way I have leftovers for later. Was looking for a good bbq joint as we're new to the area. Was not disappointed. The customer service was amazing. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was perfect. I've been wanting to try this place since I was 10 years old but never really had the opportunity. I finally got the opportunity and I could not be happier! !! My wife and I shared the sampler plate with pulled pork, ribs, and brisket with sides of cornbread, fries, and macaroni and cheese. All the food was hot extremely filling with incredible flavor! We absolutely love their food but can't make it to the restaurant all the time. Definitely a fan of their take home barbecue sauce in a jar. My favorite is cowboy, but they are all absolutely delicious. These ribs are homemade but we used Jimmy Jack's take home barbecue sauce. Absolutely amazing flavor! Jimmy Jack's Rib Shack is the home of the best french fries in town. Hands down. I live on the Westside of town so Jimmy Jack's is not super conveniently located-- BUT -- I will go out of my way to drive over there on the reg. My fam and I popped in on a Sunday afternoon. Service was prompt and professional. Pricing was on point. Unlike other BBQ spots in town, this one has ample FREE parking. It was also a nice enough day that we were able to enjoy the patio.Food was phenomenal, per usual. I went with the best thing on the menu-- pulled pork with Chicago fire bbq sauce and french fries. My kiddos were clean plate club-- even becoming bbq sauce converts with the original sauce. (And that is saying something. Nearly every sauce they've tried has been 'too spicy' -- so kuddos to you, Jimmy Jack's.)Can't get enough of their sauce? Lucky you it is sold at a handful of local shops, Hy-Vee and even Amazon. The location in North Liberty was wonderful. That one closed months ago but I found myself in Iowa City this week. It was so nice to see the smiling face behind the counter of the lady that worked at North Liberty. The front people couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. HOWEVER, there are different people in the kitchen and the food was terrible. I realize that it's hard to find employees at this time but the current ones will drive your business away. Nice and authentic BBQ. I got pulled pork and two sides. I love beans so I doubled up. Pork had nice bark with decent smoke ring. Sauces were good. Found this gem while driving from IL oh boy am I glad I did. Ribs were on point and this is coming from a girl who has lived and breath Texas barbecue. Phenomenal! Chicago Fire is on point. Got a BBQ chicken salad and had it gone in five minutes it was so good. Wife had so much food she had leftovers. My daughter had pulled pork sandwich and devoured it. She won't eat she doesn't like and will leave it on her plate. She didn't leave a bite!
