We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary at Jake's last night and it was wonderful! My husband made reservations and Katie's greeting and acknowledgement was very genuine. She made a point of coming to our table to check on our accommodations and our waitress Kelly was attentive and knowlegeable. Super service! My husband has hearing challenges and they accommodated us by seating us in a quiet area! Perfect for our ocasion as well! Thank you will definitely be returning! More...

I've never been to Jake's because it's too far from my house, which is only 5 minutes west of downtown, so I stay in that area for dining out, but I found myself in the area on a Saturday night, and I was hungry, so I gave them a call to ask how busy they were. The hostess told me the wait for a table was one hour and bar seating was first come first served, but she was about to seat 4 tables (so that should open some bar stools). There were people standing in the bar area when I walked in, so when bar stools opened, I hung back to give them dibs because I'm cool like that. About 15-20 minutes later, more stools opened, and I was able to snag one. A few minutes later, one of the busy bartenders greeted me and offered assistance. I asked for glass of water and a menu. It took about 30 seconds for me to figure out what I wanted. This being a supper club, I ordered the staples: french onion soup, steak tartare, and a dry-aged bone-in ribeye with baked potato and their signature mac-n-cheese. The only thing I missed was the haystack onion rings, which a friend later told me was a must. I'll get that next time. The broth of the Caramelized French Onion Soup was nicely seasoned. It was heavier on the onion than the croutons, but came with ample melted gruyere over the top. Solid start! The tartare came with soft, yet slightly crisp crostini. The tartare wasn't bad, but was fairly "vanilla" as far as tartares go. I didn't see or taste most of the listed ingredients, and I thought it could have used more seasoning. I ordered my steak medium rare, but it arrived a little closer to medium well. However, the sear and the seasoning was so on point that it tasted amazing, and I refused the bartender's offer to send it back. She really tried. I appreciated her eagerness to ensure I was a satisfied customer. The baked potato was perfectly cooked, and the mac-n-cheese was also pretty good. Orecchiette pasta was baked with a creamy cheese sauce and topped with a layer of cheese and bread crumbs. I definitely had no room for dessert after all that. Overall, I was satisfied with service and the food enough to justify a future visit. More...

Love the food here. We walked in Saturday after the trick or treat event, and found the bartender nice, but the bar was understaffed for a full-house Saturday. You need to figure out when you think you’ll be busy. Get more help in if you’re fully committed. The halibut was overcooked and rushed out after learning you were out of salmon. More...

I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner tonight! I got amazing walleye cooked perfect with tasty topping! The French onion soup crock was better than all the others I've had-not salty and had  a firm melted cheese topping. The baked Mac and cheese was excellent as well.  I tried their new hibiscus unsweetened tea which was a great change of pace! My waitress with 20 years experience at Jake's was prompt and sweet. I've been eating a lot of beef lately and other some issues downstairs from eating dry aged beef, it's going well   Jakes was great. We had a nice table sitting directly across from a couple who had to have been married for 60 years (they didn't  say a word to one another).  Ok Jakes.. i had dinner with two friends and the three of us all had great meals. The dry aged Kansas City Strip steaks were excellent (Kansas city implies the cut comes with a bone). My French Onion soup was  outstanding. I mean incredible-the beef broth was as rich and as perfectly seasoned as the broth we learned to cook at the Culinary Institute of America (my alma mater). The soup had loads of Gruyere and was just crusty and creamy. Our sides were good except for the Brussels sprouts, they were bitter, not well seasoned and a bit too al dente. I'd def come back  to Jakes! More...

Took my mother and brother out to dinner here, and it was almost exactly as I remembered it from years ago.  The décor is definitely starting to show its age, but the food was good, well prepared and the service overall was courteous and on point.  Had the 8oz filet Oscar style, which was a nice medium rare and seasoned properly.  My mother enjoyed the pomegranate cocktail creation, and in fact, had three.  A good steakhouse with solid food, a bit pricey for the aging ambiance. This is a nice low key fancy restaurant. I was with a big group and they had no trouble seating us even without a reservation. We had a fun, witty waiter who knows the menu very well and was able to make great suggestions. The table got a few appetizers, one being bone marrow. This is something I've never tried and frankly was reluctant to.  But peer pressure won out and I tried it and survived I am happy to say. It tasted fine but more than the taste was the texture. It was like fat from a steak but creamy. I ordered the pork chop which was cooked perfectly. There were glazed apples with it and they went perfect with the chop. I also ordered a vieux carre, my latest favorite drink, and it was just ok. It was not on their menu so it's perhaps not fair to critique it. All in all, we had a great meal and outstanding service.  I suspect next time we are in Brookfield we will return. More...

The food here is always great.  The service, however, is extremely low level (for the place) and that has to factored in when you think about how much it costs to eat here.  I have been here a few times in the last few months and dinner each time took forever.  Like two plus hours with a reservation.  Not only that, but a couple times we had kids with us...what is the golden rule with kids in a restaurant?  Get their food out quick so they shut up and fall asleep!  All you are doing is making chicken strips and mac n cheese!  Get the food out quick, get them some ice cream and we can stop them from ruining everyone's evening, right?  Jakes doesn't get this.  Now back to the food...steaks are always great.  Also, if possible get the duck wings.  They are the best appetizer in the city of Milwaukee.  Why they do not have them all the time, I wonder. If you are on a budget, the short ribs are always a dynamite selection. I will note that the drinks are way too expensive.  It is almost a joke.  The sad thing is that if they lowered drinks to normal price and hired another sou-chef/good line cook the place would probably be packed non-stop. The food is that good. More...

I had a taste for some really good steak and Jake's was the first place to pop up.  You drive down a road that has a railroad track then make this weird turn that takes you up a hill to this beautiful quaint building and you are at Jake's. My waiter was extremely kind and I started off with champagne with a sugar cube in it and truffle deviled eggs.  The deviled eggs were so good, what brought them over the edge was the truffle oil.  I love truffle oil, did I state that already?  I then ordered the filet mignonette trio; Oscar style, blue cheese, and peppercorn crusted.  My dudes was the cream corn and double baked potato.  I loved the blue cheese and Oscar style filets, the cream corn and baked potato was out of this world good.  Yummy!!!!!   One of my best steak experiences.  Next time I come back to Wisconsin first place I stop at will be Jake's. I'm sad to see this only have 3 1/2 stars. This is absolutely my favorite restaurant in Milwaukee and my family and I have been coming here for the last 20+ years. They are usually pretty consistently good and haven't changed much in that time. I've never really had a bad experience at Jake's, which is what I would expect considering the prices you pay. There are three things that we always insist on getting whenever we come here. The onion strings, the bacon wrapped water chestnuts, and the french onion soup. You can't go wrong with any of those choices. They also have a great atmosphere - I love all of the dark wood and it's nice to have the fireplace going in the winter.Overall, this is an amazing place that does not disappoint. I highly recommend it. More...
