The staff is very friendly. We visited on 12/28/19 for dinner. The power went out and they were very quick to check on everyone. The staff did not panic either. The food was amazing. I used the bathroom and it was super clean. I was really impressed that they had a special touch up station in the bathroom too. Hairspray, Hand Lotion, Q-tips, Tampons and Pads! I greatly enjoyed the welcoming, Ohana atmosphere at Jackie Rey’s In Hilo. My server, N Kuulei, was superb in all the ways that make for an extremely pleasing dining experience — professional yet friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive - including that my food allergies were taken care of so that I did not have any concerns to distract me from my meal. (A+++) I began with one of their signature drinks, their mai tai, and it definitely did not disappoint! When I tasted it I immediately thought now THIS is a mai tai! My meal included: Hand made crab cakes, Fresh baked bread infused with rosemary (soooo ‘yum’), and Sesame encrusted Ono. Everything was perfection in preparation and presentation. And when I heard the dessert offerings, there was one that I simply could not say ‘no’ to — A chocolate mint crème brûlée... Did you catch that?! ...a Chocolate Mint Crème Brûlée... it was practically ‘to die for’!! Friendly welcome. Gorgeous dining room. Menu is extensive with very few vegetarian choices. I ordered the fish wrap without the fish, and added a side of coleslaw. The flavours and freshness were wonderful. Server Sawyer was attentive and knowledgeable, and prices are moderate. Spending an hour in a booth here at lunchtime watching Hilo go by is delightful. Ein schönes, etwas gehobenes Restaurant mitten in Hilo. Die Preise ist dadurch etwas höher, aber man bekommt auch was dafür. Sehr leckere Speisen, die auch optisch was her machen.
