Innovo Kitchen

Sadly, this restaurant has lost its luster over the past few years. I used to come to Innovo regularly for date night or out with friends and we always found the menu inventive and the meals consistently great. Not so much anymore. I hosted my office team for dinner and we were all disappointed in our meals. A chopped salad (ordered by three of us) was not chopped (why?). The appetizers consisting of taters, nachos, and a dip, were nothing better than frozen reheated supermarket quality. The best part of our night was sitting at the bar as the service was attentive and the cocktails were great. This is my second time at Innovo Kitchen and I have been super happy with both visits! It has an industrial look with plenty of tables and a large bar. Seriously every dish that passed me looked absolutely incredible! They have a variety of options including salads, sandwiches, pastas and hot dogs (?). I was all set to order a salad (New Years you know) but the turkey sub at the table next to me looked too amazing to pass up! Luckily for me, the sub tasted just as amazing as it looked. Love this place!!! I have never had a bad meal here, every time it's dynamite and worth every penny! You walk in and are greeted by Christmas decorations that flourish the rooms and a host stand or room to scoot to the bar. Innovo is perfect for a date night as there's no music blaring in your ear. My party was able to book a resy right online which is always the best way to go! Arrived around 430pm for happy hour at the bar. Was pretty busy for happy hour as it's around the holidays, we found 4 sits together though. Only suggestion: the space is a little tight and could loose a stool or 2 around the bar to make the guests feel more comfortable and not on top of strangers. But Happy hour specials were nice, $5 draft beers, $5 wines and they offer small plates. The menu is on a QR code which makes it a little annoying to be frank, would be much better if they had printed out a menu or two and posted them on the little boards that the QR code's are on. Waiter was attentive. Nice thing about the bar is for us ladies they have little hangers under the chairs so you can put your purse or clutch in front of you! We got cocktails then went to check in at the host for dinner. Seated within seconds, waitress Amy was knowledgeable, attentive, friendly and helpful. Shown below is the Beef Short Rib: it was very juicy and served with these amazingly sweet, mashed sweet potatoes and Brussel sprouts. My partner and I have been to burger night for happy hour (I think they were $5 at the time) and neither of us were too impressed. I met up with an associate for dinner another time and was pleasantly surprised with the food, although I found it don the pricier side personally. On another occasion, I took my daughter to brunch on the patio in the nicer weather because we always love a good outdoor seating option. The cocktails at that time were fabulous! It was our family's first Thanksgiving celebration at IK~everything was excellent!! From the pumpkin bisque to the turkey, stuffing, carrots, green bean casserole & gravy (we all asked for extra!), it couldn't have tasted any better. We all went home with leftovers. It was still very busy later in the day when we arrived and our server, Jessica, was smiling, sweet & very attentive. Hands down the best warm pretzels I've ever had. The pimento cheese on the side was also incredible. You can tell the pasta is homemade in the clam scallop orecchiette dish. I've been to Innovo Kitchen twice in the last 2 months. Both on Tuesdays. One time was 5 Stars, hands down a great experience, great drinks, great food. Meh. Had a cold lobster roll which didn't have a roll at all! Just a slice of bread. It didn't taste bad but it was definitely at the low end of the scale. It was dry and didn't have much mayo or flavor in it. Not even a lemon. Probably the smallest lobster roll I've ever eaten in my life. Had one of those epic meal experiences here last night, you know the one that stays with you for a long time and remains the standard until you are lucky enough to have the next one. Had a nice bar experience before being seated in the warm and inviting dining room. Our waitress Larissa was lovely and tended to everything without being intrusive or hovering. Service is awesome- particularly at the bar. I've been coming here for years once a month when in town for business. Unfortunately- the portions have been getting super small. I had a $19 salad tonight that was literally the size of a side salad- MAYBE 2 oz of grilled chicken and a cup of greens. Tucked away into an unassuming suburban shopping center, it's easy to let the run-of-the-mill brick façade that conceals Latham gem Innovo Kitchen fool you. Upon entry, the bustling bar area, dim lighting, and exposed wood design might lead you to believe that this is a tavern-style establishment, but classifying it as such would be a gross understatement. Even a cursory glance at the menu proves that this restaurant truly does deserve its name, with intriguing, elevated twists on your essential staple dishes. I first developed an inkling that this wouldn't be my typical dinner out when my dining companions and I were welcomed not with an ordinary bread basket, but instead with an incredibly flavorful garlicky bean spread and crisp seeded crackers. For my entrée I chose the Spring Burrata salad, which highlighted the fresh flavors of carrot and harissa alongside a comforting buttermilk naan. The service was impeccable, and we were pleasantly surprised when our excellent server greeted us with dark chocolate with almonds and cranberries as he bestowed the check upon us after our meal. The food here is horrible. The buns are always dry, the meat is never cooked to the proper specifications. The ingredients, while advertised as fresh, are clearly frozen. The restaurant has all kinds of creepy crawlers in the bathroom and kitchen. The staff is very rude and Tina, the owner, is the rudest of them all. She implied that I was too poor to be eating at her restaurant and that I didn't understand "quality food". If this burger joint is the epitome of "quality food", then the bar is extremely low. I want to love this place for the really cool vibe and gorgeous interior and excellent service ... but it just keeps missing the mark. $19 cocktail ... was just ok. Innovo is one of those places that from the outside you get a glimpse of the interior and wonder - what goes on in there? If the gorgeous interior doesn't draw you in, the smells will . A very modern industrial / rustic mashup of an interior and a layout and flow that make sense, and oh yeah, tables that are reclaimed bowling lanes? Very thoughtful decisions were made here. Let's talk about the food though! Glorious, glorious food. Their 5 onion bisque - is a must try! Even if you can't imagine anything other than French onion soup, this is stellar. Heaps of onion and and savory brother with goat cheese croutons is Luther worldly. Definitely not a close talker. Many options abound, a favorite salad of mine is the Ahi Tuna Salad - succulent seared rare Ahi tuna atop chopped greens, veggies, cashews and wontons. Another favorite I've had was the Grandma's Braciole - a solid helping of delicious Braciole rounds with fettuccine and braising sauce. Been here a bunch and I usually go to my default without fail - the lamb burger with a salad. Lamb was cooked properly (medium) and the salad was fresh although a bit smallish. This place does a good job on cocktails and always has a unique drink menu. Prices are pretty fair as well. Staff was friendly and the place has a good vibe. Love the almond cranberry dark chocolate treat at the end of the meal. Nice way to end the night. Along with a Negroni :). Only nit was the waitress spilt water on my jacket when pouring our waters.
