This was my first time having Indian cuisine and WOW. I've always heard mixed feelings about Indian food but, you have to go to find out how YOU like it. I can't believe I have been missing out all these years. Came here on a holiday after adventuring around town and seeing everything was closed, Lazeez was not! We were seated promptly and taken care of the entire time. I ordered the chicken tandoori, my partner got the hyperabadi gosht bahar (goat on the bone). Both were incredible. It was full of flavor, tasted fresh, and smelled delightful. For dessert, our waiter gave us a surprise dessert letting us know we would love it and we sure did. I forgot to get the name but I believe it was ras malai. You can see the crushed pistachios and the saffron on it. Great new addition to Orange St! The restaurant wasn't particularly crowded this past weekend but we made a reservation just to be safe. Staff was very friendly and came around often.The menu here is a mix of Indian and Indo-Chinese food. Our party of four decided to split all the dishes rather than order our own items. We split an avocado (bhel puri I think?) which was a little small for 4 people as an appetizer, but very good. For our main dishes, we shared chicken tikka masala, laal maas (lamb) and a spicy shrimp that was under the Indo-Chinese list. They all came with rice as well and we got 2 orders of garlic naan. All the dinner items were quite tasty but we were almost about to fight over the shrimp - it was SO good. I might go back just for that! It definitely had a Chinese takeout kind of flavoring to it and was so good - nothing like what I've had in other Indian restaurants.As I mentioned earlier, our waitress was very friendly and came around often to give us more water and drinks. I have tried most of the Indian restaurants in New Haven, and this one is definitely up at the top of my list for favorites. The food is absolutely delicious, and I would strongly recommend the gobi manchurian and the langarwali dal (I have tried all the dal in New Haven and this one is the BEST). I'm knocking off 1 star for 2 reasons. First, the service is fairly slow. I understand it's a newer restaurant so perhaps the staff isn't used to a faster turn around time between ordering, getting the food, and getting the check. Second, we asked to sit outside at an empty table and were told there was a reservation so we sat inside. The reservation party did not show up until we were leaving, plus the staff accommodated other parties who wanted to sit outside by bringing tables and chairs out for them. More...

A perfect dinner last night. Sat outside in a perfect spring evening, not too hot, not too cold with a light breeze. Mohamed was the perfect host for the evening, needless to say the food and service was memorable. Speaking of food the selection Mohamed choose for us was in it's entirety delicious.Some of our fav's, Chili Crab, Achari Shrimp, The Drums of Heaven, Lamb Chops, Hakka Noodles, Goat, Butter Chicken all so good. This might be the best Indian food in new haven. I was blown away by this new place. Everything I had was so delicious. I highly recommend the gobi Manchurian. I'm excited to try more of the Chinese Indian fusion dishes because there is no other place here that has similar things. I really recommend trying out this place. Occasionally, one finds a spot worth a drive.  Maybe even a long 2 hour drive.  Lazeez  was such a spot for us, as we went there on a trip from Boston to NYC.  We stopped there for lunch and the food was just spectacular.  The chicken tandoori, chicken saag and lamb jalfrezi were superbly moist, flavorful and obviously freshly made from scratch, which is not the case with the majority of Indian restaurants.  There are dozens of Indian places around us in Boston, and frankly, none of them compares with what we had at Lazeez.  I told the server that they should consider relocating to Boston, in which case I would be there at least once a week. While out of town on official business, I stumbled across Lazeez because they offered Lamb Tikka Marsala. Â The food was beyond amazing. Â In addition to the Lamb Tikka Marsala, I tried Avocado Bhel Poori and the Chilie Crab...both were delicious. Newer restaurant from the former manager of the great Thali -- wonderful to have this terrific food back again! We didn't want to be too adventurous so stuck with what we know -- Saag with anything is great if you like creamy spinach -- enjoyed trying some new things to like gobhi by itself. Avoid at all costs. You will regret if you visit them. Â Not many reviews in Yelp. Food is extremely awful. Â No flavor, no taste, no salt, only red chili powder. Â We had chicken biryani. There were only 4 small chicken nuggets and that too was not properly cooked. The red chili pepper level was so high, that we had to throw away the food. And there was absolutely no biryani flavor. It was just chili rice. Ironically, salan and salad were not included, which is expected to accompany, as indicated in the description. Â These kinds of pseudo Indian cooking style bring bad name to Indian cuisine. Â Most of the reviews are false reviews (may be paid reviews) and are totally misleading. Please don't trust them. Ordered takeout at 6:30pm and was suppose to pick up my order at 7:15pm but when I arrived, they didn't have my order ready yet - but in reality they didn't even start my order. I only know this because I heard the servers talking amongst themselves. I had to wait until 7:45pm for my order, the restaurant told me they were backed up due to a large party of about 16+ people that came the same time I had placed my order. Apparently they care more about their dine in guests than their takeout guests. I ordered the chicken malai, paneer shashlik and chicken tiikka all medium spicy knowing I can handle the spice level, but what I received was not medium spice. This was beyond spicy for me I now have blisters in my mouth. Not sure if my order was mixed up with someone else's. This is the second time trying Lazeez, first being the week they opened and loved what I had. The food we ordered from here was EXCELLENT! Me and my wife are no strangers to Indian food and all the food that was delivered was so fresh and flavorful. We ordered the chili chicken, gobhi manchurian, lal maas and spinach dal. We were so impressed by all 4 dishes. If we lived closer we would order from here ALL the time. I felt good eating at an Indian restaurant after quite a while. I liked the location with ample parking options and potential for outdoor tables during warmer weather. Indoors is quite cozy and tastefully decorated, quite different than most Indian restaurants. Menu was perfect. Not too big, but enough options to satisfy most pallets. We ordered drinks, apps, main course and deserts. Drinks and deserts were quite standard, but the apps and main course were outstanding. Try the avocado bhel. Everything was dished beautifully making the experience delightful. AJ and Mo provided great service and had some good recommendations. RUN, don't walk. I tried Lazeez shortly after their opening and was impressed by every aspect of my experience. We were greeted warmly by the staff upon initially entering. Our server then showed us to our table and gave us recommendations on his favorite dishes. He did not steer us in the wrong direction. We began with the sham savera, garlic naan, and the drums of heaven. While simply presented, each dish was unique and extremely flavorful. We then tried the chicken vindaloo and stir fry noodles as our entrees. The portions were generous, each dish was enough food for about 2 people. The chicken vindaloo had the perfect amount of spice and was the best preparation of that dish I've ever had. I initially thought the stir fry noodles were a bit boring and wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised how such a simple dish could be so flavorful. If the delicious food isn't enticing enough, the staff was so kind and went the extra mile. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, I can appreciate the extra touches that really elevate a dining experience. Our server was attentive, friendly, and curious for our feedback. The owner also came over to our table and treated us to complimentary dessert (the Kheer). I think this area lacks good options for Indian cuisine, so I was thrilled with my experience at Lazeez. I can honestly say this is the best Indian cuisine I've ever had and I'm already looking forward to my next trip back. I urge everyone to give this place a try, I'm certain you won't be disappointed!
