Hungry Hunter Steakhouse

We came in pretty late so it wasn't busy at all. A few people on dates and what looked like local folks at the bar, in an otherwise large picturesque dining room. The menu offers a variety of steaks, chops, chicken and fish as well as a variety of pastas. I'm afraid that if you're vegetarian your options are limited to salads or the alfredo, "hold the meat please," style, but you probably already expect this out of a place called Hungry Hunter.The good: The portions are fairly generous, with most entress bringing 2 sides, choice of soup or salad and complimentary bread before you start. Hopefully this means you won't leave hungry.Our server was helpful and attentive, making us feel right at home.The Not-So-Good:They're famous for their prime rib but my wife said if was just ok. We took a drive out to Bakersfield CA to have lunch at the Hungry Hunter restaurant.My wife had the filet mignon with broccoli and a small dinner salad and I had the beer battered shrimp with rice and small dinner salad. Also they have a mud pie to die for which we both shared.If you ever went to the Hungry Hunter, you know the food is great and so is the service. Stayed in Bakersfield for the week and I ate here every night! From the Oscar steak with crab meat and hollandaise sauce to the gaucho mint lamb chops, I just couldnt believe how delicious the food was. I literally had to tip the cooks! Went to my birthday dinner with my son and daughter.  I had a great house cut prime rib, perfect rare. Everything was very good, including dessert, except the appetizer sampler , which I thought was terrible. Very good service, I will be back.

Hungry Hunter Steakhouse is somewhere you go if you want to celebrate something in Bakersfield; examples: anniversaries, retirements, engagements, etc. The restaurant space, at one time, was probably lovely and refined, but it's a little outdated nowadays - slightly weird (ie glass grapes/giant wine bottles) decor sporadically spaced throughout the restaurant.In any case, my friends and I had dinner here. I opted for the New York Strip steak entree. Each entree comes with a soup, Cesar salad, or table side salad bar + additional side dishes which include a baked potato, rice pilaf, scalloped potatoes, etc. I chose soup (corn chowder) and the scalloped potatoes + rice.Okay. The corn chowder situation was a little too thick. I did not enjoy this dish. My friends opted for the table side salad bar which was an experience in itself - you choose the ingredients table side and they toss whatever you choose. This not only tasted better, we got a whole show out of it too.My New York steak entree was good ($25.99 for a 10oz). I thoroughly enjoyed the well seasoned steak. Had the ribeye and I'll be honest, it was good, but not the best I've had so far in Bakersfield. Hungry hunter steakhouse is known for their steaks, but for the price point I've had better for sure. I know Texas Roadhouse has a lower score on Yelp but definitely check that place out for their 20oz ribeye compared to the 16oz I got here. My wife and I went here for a seminar on STEM CELL regeneration therapy. A full meal was included. I chose the salmon; my wife had the mushroom chicken. Both were excellent!
