HMI's hypnotherapy education program is excellent and is taught by experienced and knowledgeable instructors with their own successful hypnotherapy practices. A wide range of presenting issues and approaches are covered. Combined with the internship with clients and forums to discuss various topics, techniques and approaches, I don't think anyone could receive a more exhaustive and informative hypnotherapy program. If you're reading these reviews, you're probably asking yourself whether you should look into attending HMI.The short answer to that is "Yes! "But here's the longer answer. When I was considering attending HMI, I took at our of the campus, and it looked pretty interesting. Then I asked Mario, the Director of Admissions for the names of some alumni that might be willing to talk about their experiences. (I did not do this before attending law school. I could have saved myself a great deal of time and money had I done so. I am incredibly glad I found HMI and took the leap! I began attending HMI in 2017, and now, I am nearly finished with the program. Their curriculum is thoughtful, well-taught, and frequently mind-blowing. HMI is 100% geared towards student success, and as a full-time working mom, I'm especially grateful for that. The teachers are top notch, and the mentorship program is brilliant. No person or institution is perfect, but what I really love about HMI is that they are ever-evolving, and ever-improving. Each successive graduating class gets more improvements than the last, and the continuing education opportunities are endless. The deciding factor in me signing up for the program was that they had business, speech, and advertising classes as part of their core curriculum. I figured that even if I decided Hypnotherapy was not the career for me (it turns out it is!), I would at least have a lot of practical knowledge under my belt. I had been smoking since I was 16 years old, off and on, and I LOVED to smoke.  Now that I am 42 and have a child I am committed to being free from my addiction to smoking.  I would smoke to celebrate, to calm my nerves, or just because I needed something to do.  Cigarettes would not let go of me until I met Ted.  His approach not only turned off that desire, but it also helped get to the root of the problem....anxiety and low self-confidence.  I cannot recommend Ted enough.  I will be returning in 2 weeks to prepare for some upcoming public speaking engagements. This school has the best training to become a hypnotherapist. I feel totally prepared for my new career. HMI is an excellent and well organized college. It is 50 years old this year :) There isn't a better program available for the study of Hypnotherapy. The pace of the school work is laid out systematically. In other words, the program incrementally becomes more demanding. However, one is able to handle it because of the order of topics within the training. I received excellent training and started seeing clients right at the start of the internship. The environment of the school is extremely positive and motivating. All of the information to successfully complete the program is available from the start on the well-organized student web portal. One of the most helpful aspects of the program is being able to select a mentor from the very experienced and established staff. I can't say enough good things about HMI. I went to see Ted to quit smoking, however Ted gave me so much more! Including becoming nicotine free, Ted help me to see that I can be more than just a single mom I could be a woman, a human being with wants and needs of my own. He helped me to see my old self, meaning Kelly before motherhood. I recently started their free Fundamentals of Hypnotherapy streaming class and find the lectures fascinating- a nice balance of theory with practical demos.  The school seems very well organized.  The instructor, Mr. Melton, is as good as or better than the professors I had at Columbia U. I cannot even begin to articulate the amazing experience I have had and am having at HMI. This is the best decision I have made for my career-EVER. I left law school to do this! My calling, to help people! This is how I am choosing to do that! The staff is amazing and professional yet personable.  Incredibly knowledgable staff with decades of experience,  and I must say, this place knows what they are doing! I am a Marriage Family Therapist and a business owner/entrepreneur. I went to Ted for some performance coaching and to get to the next level and achieve some dreams both personally and professionally. I have degrees from both UC Berkeley and Northwestern University and they have offered some of the best in schooling and experience but I can attest that Ted's brand of hypnotherapy truly does quantum leap one into another place altogether.  I can vouch for his professionalism, care, expertise and efficacy.  He simply is a cut above the rest. As a therapist I'm pretty particular about who I go for my coaching and I recommend Ted for his ability to listen between the lines. Something I attribute to gifted therapists and to be able to draw out an unspoken storyline and deal with one's blind spots. After deciding to become a Hypnotherapist I carried out an extensive search to find which school would be the best for me to attend. HMI is hands down the most extensive and all-encompassing education I found to become a certified Hypnotherapist. The year long program delves into all areas of hypnotherapy and includes business and marketing classes to round out your leap into a new career. I'm A Student at HMI i started in September of 2016 and this school has changed my life. Not only is the staff knowledgeable but also very caring doing every thing they can to help you succeed. I graduated from Hypnosis Motivation Institute back in 2014 and loved their program!I am not sure where the two negative reviews came from but I want to definitely give my review here of my experience with HMI. Firstly, the teachers are mostly excellent. My favorite teachers were Michele Guzy, Cheryl O'Neil, Lisa Machenberg and George Kappas. They taught in ways you could understand and they were also very professional in how they did their work. They were always helpful in guiding and teaching us how to do hypnotherapy inductions, and ways to speak to our clients. I learned more about myself in this year than I ever did before as we learned about the associations we created from childhood, the subconscious and conscious minds and how they worked through the Theory of Mind. Every month, the school has a conference that is hosted by the American Hypnosis Association, which is part of the school. I also spoke in that conference earlier in the year with my own one hour talk on Empowered Speaking for Success. Rose and Gina, two of the most nicest people you could ever meet, help out at the student center. I was always on top of my classes, and they let me know where I was in the program and what I needed to complete. I highly recommend this program to anyone - whether you are looking to change careers, or add hypnotherapy as part of your career in your 9-5 or in your own business, this program will help you learn more about yourself and how others work around you. You get to understand your relationships better, and ultimately, work towards a better future for yourself as you create the changes needed on a subconscious level to blossom. Plus, what I really like is that this school is a full one year program, and you have to actually attend evening classes so you can learn hands on how to do hypnotherapy and how it works. You also have to do a clinical internship that will bring you experience to work with clients before you are certified as a clinical hypnotherapist. I am grateful to Ted Moreno.  He has given me a way to manage my own insomnia.  I have broken that bad habit, and now, about a month in, I get my desired 7-8 hours nightly sleep.  I had asked Brenda B. Smith, acupuncturist in Pasadena, who has helped me with various physical issues, for a referral, and she sent me one name: Ted Moreno.  Even so, I was apprehensive and skeptical when I contacted Mr. Moreno.  Seemed like a risk to try hypnotherapy: What if it didn't work?For years, I was having trouble getting back to sleep, and recently my energy level and enjoyment of life had reached an all-time low; I was placing limits on my life.   The days were long, and I dreaded the night time.  I would sleep for four hours or so but sometimes lie awake from 3a on, especially when I had an early AM appointment.   I suffered performance anxiety about not sleeping and then had to get up in rough shape to go work or play tennis.   I resorted to Ambien, which gave me a hangover, worsened anxiety, and wrecked my mood and the quality of my meditation.  Other than that, I got to sleep a few hours.First meeting with Mr. Moreno consisted of an in-depth interview in which we discussed my plight, my medical history, wellbeing, family, state of mind, losses, and goals. He is a consummate professional, an excellent listener, and he has a talent for focusing on the person he is with; he gave me simple instructions on how to prepare to sleep, along with a recording of his hypnotizing me.  I had learned not to sleep, but with hypnosis, I re-learned how to relax as I lay down, breathing calmly, expecting to sleep. By the third night, I was getting the sleep I needed, from 11p-6 or 6:30a, minus a few trips to the bathroom.  I was able to fall back to sleep!  Dreams became more pointed, memorable.  As I explained to Ted, who followed up with me after a couple of nights, an issue with anger I was dealing with was like a "tangle, a knot that needed untangling in my unconscious."   Well, it got untangled and sleep has come and stayed.I went to Mr. Moreno for four visits. Each time he would tirelessly listen to my questions and lingering concerns and incorporate the answers as he made me a new recording and provided additional, simple techniques to lessen anxiety. My confidence was building following the real success of good nights' sleep.   For me, life is good again, takes less effort to persevere; opportunities are presenting themselves, and the possible once more looks like the probable.  Amazing what the gift of sleep can do. Thank you, Ted Moreno, for your commitment to my transformation.  Nice to be myself again.  Life is good.  I appreciate what you can do for others and have referred three people I know to see Mr. Moreno. I went a while back, but the school and instructors were fantastic.  I highly recommend taking one of their free classes to get a taste of it. (hypnosis.edu/classes) If you can take one with George Kappas all the better.  He is the owner of the school, and has a great sense of humor in addition to his hypnotherapy skills. I took off a star because if you going to it for a career, know that it is hard career to break into. I think it is only a small percentage of students who are able to go on to full time careers from it.  In addition to learning the skills of a hypnotherapist, you will also need to be good at marketing and promoting yourself to build clientele.  Having said that, I did not go on to have a career with it, but I am still glad I went and would do it again just because I enjoyed the experience and the education. It wasn't until I discovered the true quality of this college that I knew this was exactly where I was meant to be. I'm a 2014 honors graduate from here and so very proud to be! HMI is the only nationally accredited college of hypnotherapy and their training covers practically everything you could possibly think of. There are so many other "schools" for hypnosis out there that don't cover everything that HMI does. Other schools are a weekend course, a week long or sometimes even 3 months long, but you can't learn everything HMI teaches you in that short time span. HMI school is an entire year long and they leave no stone unturned with the education. If you happen to be reading this review and thinking of hiring a hypnotherapist to accomplish something, I can't stress enough how important their educational background is. Go through their website, look for somewhere where they talk about their education. Unless they said they went to HMI, DO NOT TRUST THEM! It's possible they went to a short week long course and they want to open up your subconscious mind and change things around with that kind of lack of training!?! I don't think so! Soooo....hypnotherapy is pretty interesting. I wasn't entirely skeptical going in, but I admit I had some doubts about how effective it could be. I am so glad my first experience was with Ted. I was having motivation issues and was (still am?) a bit embarrassed about finding myself in that state. Ted made me feel immediately comfortable and he was very easy to talk to. In the pre-interview he asked me some pointed questions and helped me get to the heart of my concerns. He then moved on to the hypnosis, which was not as weird as I had feared it would be. The session was incredibly valuable to me, it really helped crystallize the steps I needed to take to move forward. Ted really knows what he is doing, and his non judgmental  attitude  and humanity made it possible for me to get over myself and get on with what I needed to do. When I first heard about the Hypnosis Motivation Institute, I was living in the Philippines 15 hours away by plane. I had gone into semi-retirement mode and was with the most amazing woman I had met in my life. Something inside me stirred when I discovered HMI. After researching it further, I knew it was my calling to be trained by the "Harvard" of hypnotherapy and go to work helping people heal or simply better themselves through guided, self-improvement behavior modification.I shared my insights and motivation with my lady, and she gave me her blessing. I would return in time and we would pick up where we left off. So off I went back to the US to enroll at the Hypnosis Motivation Institute. I met with Michele Guzy the Admissions Director for the college, was given a tour and quizzed about my motivation and reason for coming. I had another interview to cover the financial arrangements and was informed later in the week that I had been accepted. I began my new journey into hypnotherapy on December 17th of 2013. Now, one year and 720 hours later, I graduated with honors as a certified, clinical hypnotherapist. The training was extensive, exhaustive, challenging and fun. I have never enjoyed college as much as this, and I already have a degree in computer-aided design drafting which landed me a job at Boeing in the commercial airplane group. I know what hard work, studying and excellent training is, and the Hypnosis Motivation Institute is up there with the nation's finest. Maybe this is why since 1968 when the college was founded by Dr. Kappas, it is considered to be the nation's first and foremost nationally-accredited hypnosis training college in the country. If you want the best in-depth training, this is the place.The entire curriculum is well-thought out, intelligent, useful and extremely interesting, and of course each semester builds upon the knowledge gained and proficiency of the previous semester. Practicum workshops and extra archived video training supplement the in class training perfectly. Nothing is left to chance.I would like to point out that the staff of HMI is absolutely dedicated to their craft and they are the best at what they do. I feel very privileged to be under their care and guidance. I am just starting the second half of the yearlong hypnotherapy training program at HMI. A little background- I'm a licensed therapist and initially intended to attend HMI to simply add a new skill to my clinical tool bag. I'm also a veteran- I served six years in the army- and I've subsequently attended a few different colleges in my lifetime. HMI is, simply put, amazing. The program is very well organized and all the staff are wonderful. Each instructor has a distinctive and interesting set of skills/expertise. They are approachable and knowledgeable, with unique personalities! The non-academic staff are also exceptionally professional and encouraging. If you have a question about anything related to your academic progress, you will find they are available via phone, email, and in person. They are highly responsive to voicemails and emails. I had the privilege of earning my master's degree at a very well-known school, and I can honestly say that HMI's program is equal in all regards. It's well worth the tuition!Speaking of money- I'm a bit confused by another review that says the school is money-hungry. The tuition is very low considering what you get. I mean, you are taught ALL the skills you need, and then the school keeps you on as an intern and teaches you how to market and establish your private practice. The program fully prepares you for a career in which you can charge $100+ per hour, pretty quickly. There ARE electives that you must complete at your own discretion/pace throughout the year, but it's entirely possible to do that without spending money out of pocket. You probably won't want to do that, though- there are WAY too many amazing in-person trainings offered. I'm currently enrolled for PTSD and Smoking Cessation certifications and intend to sign up for Past Life Regression soon. If your financial aid doesn't quite cover all of your tuition, the school is happy to give you credit off your remaining balance for each hour of pro bono hypnotherapy that you complete. You can complete this on your own and the school does not profit from it. The school's founder was a visionary in his own right, and the school continues to implement his teachings. One of those is the Mental Bank Program, which helps you raise your reality income by gradually rewriting your life script and changing old or self-limiting beliefs about money. It is very nice to see that this program is practiced by instructors and mentors at the school, including the director. I personally am inspired and encouraged by their success!The school wants you to succeed. All of the instructors want you to succeed. There is a vibe of "yes" in the air. Everyone you encounter is available to help. Bottom line- this school and program are legit. You get more than your money's worth, and each and every instructor, staff member, and the director are all great professional role models. All I can say is that, Joe Tabanella is amazing!!!! I have heard wonderful things about their accredited school and they are conveniently located across the street from my nail salon.  In fact, I had been given their "Mental Bank" books by a friend.  When I found out that they offer free classes on Monday nights a couple of time a month, I signed up.The first class I attended was the "Energy Healing and Connection" class taught by Katt Lowe.  Last night I went to Susie Kappas' "Hypnotherapy for Weightloss."  Both of these women are excellent healers and speakers.  They not only gave us some insight into the various modalities used in their practices (they use other healing techniques, like reiki and EFT, in addition to meditation to help their patients), but they did some hands-on work with us as well.  What I really enjoyed about both of the classes is that the instructors shared their personal stories to help us better understand how they came to be healers.  They put everyone at ease with their friendliness and professionalism.  No snake oil salesmen or weird vibes here!I will be signing up for more free classes in the near future and will attend one of their reasonably priced EFT classes next month.  Give it a try.  You have nothing to lose!
