Highway Restaurant is just simply the best restaurant out East for delictable meals from salad to dessert. I was never a fan of Kale salad until I discovered a kale salad here with the most delicate dressing, dressed with chips made from squash, and various tangy and sweet surprises. The fried calamari was so light and just the right amount with a nice spicy atoli very fresh. Then fresh burrata with multicolored beets nicely dressed. The late corn was grilled and dressed perfectly. And John's eggplant parmigiana light and flavorful. Best thing was the apple crumb dish. Simply superb. Love this restaurant. The menu does not change often, but that is OK because many of the menu items are craveable: kale salad, chicken pot pie, roast chicken, eggplant parm, pork buns to name a few.

What a great place. We had the tempura rock shrimp appetizer and I almost cancelled my entre to reorder the shrimp, but I was glad I didn't when I tried the homemade cavatelli. We all shared several apps, salads and entree's and everyone was memorable. I'm not a fan of eggplant parm, since it's not even a thing in Italy, but it was awesome. Highway is our “go-to” in the Hamptons. Not only is the food and service excellent, the key word is “consistent”. In living here, it is often a hit or miss at many of the east end restaurants but not at Highway. It is consistently excellent. Regardless if it’s a Monday or Saturday, the food and service are always top notch. The atmosphere and staff are friendly and professional. Came here with a group of six for a decent meal, especially for the Hamptons. Once you accept that things will cost a little more, you'll have a 20% automatic gratuity for parties of 6 or more (which they won't tell you about) because that is "market" for the area, you can enjoy your meal. I had the bouillabaisse which was excellent and well portioned. My friends had different pastas and we also ordered some kale salads.  Everything hit the spot and the service was generally solid (not always a guaranty given the automatic gratuity). It was a little slow, but I"m guessing that's because it appeared to be a little understaffed (ie there was nobody working at the bar and it looked like our waiter made the drinks himself).  My one gripe is not the restaurant's fault but when i went to go to the bathroom, the men's room door shut just in front of me. The women's was still open but of course, I would not go to use the women's room in a nice place like this. After a long wait, the men's room opens and a female waitress comes out. I found this very odd. Why she did not use the open women's room, I'll never know and i found it very off putting. Again, thats a staff specific issue and not restaurant's fault so i'll say this is generally recommended. More...

Food was good but they must not have had enough help that night. Waitress never asked if I wanted a second glass of wine. I addition they fed us so fast that we were out of there in about an hour. Not very relaxing.

A local friend of ours in East Hampton recommended Highway to us for dinner while vacationing in the Hamptons from LA. Likely one of our best meals on the East End. Handcrafted cocktails were rightfully limited (far too many restaurants have far too many and the effect is diluted), with a special call-out for house-pickled onions in the Gibson! The dinner menu is rooted in classic menu items done well, and thus conducive to many repeat visits during and after season. Each dish we had was superb. Home-made pie for dessert, as well as biscoti, deserve special mention. Far easier to get a bad meal out here so far from NYC as we had at Nick and Toni's two nights earlier. The bloom is long gone from that long-time local favorite. Even after telling a manager at the door how bad 2 of 3 dishes were, and how un-attentive the service was, it is obvious that they have forgotten the meaning of Hospitality, whereas Highway has it down almost to a science. We love this restaurant and took another couple out for their anniversary there. Even though everything was solid, each dish lacked the attention to detail that you would usually get at Highway. It’s most likely because it’s midsummer and I imagine that the kitchen is just burnt out from the tourists and full houses every night. Unfortunately, dishes like the usually amazing pork buns were dry and lackluster, and the halibut special was truly tasteless and bland. The crudo was excellent as was the service. On a busy Saturday nite in the Hamptons, we were pleasantly surprised that our table was ready at our reservation time. Server was good. The chicken was excellent.
