Recommended by my daughter, this virtual training class was a great way to start our puppy on the road to behaving correctly as well as a fantastic refresher course for my husband and I on how puppies think and act (and how to handle it! ) Can't recommend this enough, I only wish we lived near Hope so we could attend her live classes. High Hopes Dog Training was recommended to me by my vet and I am so pleased that he did. Hope, the trainer, and Sandy, her assistant, are top notch. Although my dog Chloe and I had to do the Beginner Obedience and Good Manners class through Zoom due to Covid, Hope made every effort to make it interesting and exciting for each dog, plus very effective. I would highly recommend her.

Hope helped us with our French Bulldog Jasper (Jazzy). He was acting out aggressively towards his brother Rocky a Boston Terrier and was not listening at all to me nor my husband. We were at our wits end and were afraid we were going to have to re-home him for fear he would attack our son. After just one session with Hope Jazzy's behavior started to improve. We couldn't believe it! Now, he get's along great with his puppy brother & is very close to our son. Hope taught us how to lead effectively and as a result saved our family! If you're dealing with an aggressive or unruly dog and don't know what to do I strongly suggest you call High Hopes! Their prices are very affordable compared to other trainers and it works! More...

I had the pleasure to work with both Hope and Sandy with my dog, Memphis. Memphis was once a stray from the streets of Memphis, TN that I adopted. Hope and Sandy are incredible teachers, as I learned just as much or even more than Memphis during out training. Memphis has become more confident in himself and has shown amazing improvement in his everyday behaviors and manners. I am so happy I chose High Hopes Dog Training and am blown away by how important and how much the commands (and tricks) I've learned from Hope and Sandy have improved both my everyday life as well as Memphis'. We couldn’t be happier with Hope’s services ! About a year ego we adopted a 2 year old GS with a severe separation anxiety. We also got an 8 week old GS puppy. I admit there were moments when I thought I was not fit for the task! Hope came to our rescue , not only she is an awesome behaviorist, she is very creative with finding the solutions to the problems ! I am happy to report that Schuster and Remi made a huge progress , they are happy, well adjusted dogs, all thanks to Hope ! More...

Hope has been helping our family with two very energetic, intelligent, and leash-reactive dogs. She provides great in-home training that is truly tailored to the things that you want to focus on with your pets. She clearly understands our animals and gives us specific techniques to work with them, complete with practical "homework" to do before the next lesson. This definitely keeps us accountable. One of the most valuable things about having a trainer like Hope work with you is that she can help you see where you can improve communication with your dog, which is not something that you can easily perceive yourself. I'm a very do-it-yourself kind of person and have learned tons from blogs and YouTube, but having Hope right there alongside me to coach me through adjustments I can make while training my dogs is totally invaluable. In addition to private lessons, we have also joined her in her Gobedience class, allowing us to take these skills and apply them in real-world environments. We communicated with Hope beforehand about our concerns regarding our dogs' reactivity, and Hope assured us that we would be able to distance ourselves from the group and go at our own pace, which was exactly what we did. While the dogs were indeed still very reactive, Hope and Candice stopped by to help us with the skills being taught in class as well as provide our dogs with good interactions with strangers, and around other dogs. The dogs were able to calm down by the end of the class, which was a good improvement from where they have been.Gobedience gave us a safe space to train our dogs and work on their reactivity around other dogs and people. Hope was a tremendous advocate for our pets and helped us feel safe and secure while we were working alongside other trainers. We felt that it was a genuinely good experience, and that while our dogs still have a ways to go with regards to reactivity, we all absolutely love Hope and the training that she facilitates with the dogs. Hope and her staff are amazing. Classes were well planned and the space was laid out well. We were given enough space to learn our new behaviors. But still close enough to do a little socializing if we wanted. Each behavior was broken down into steps, which were repeated as many times as needed. Each pup had the opportunity to perform last weeks behaviors and the current weeks new behaviors. This allowed us to be clear on the steps needed to complete the behavior. The thing that impressed me most was the love the staff have for the pups. They love them all. Short pups, tall pups, fat pups, thin pups, fluffy pups and not so fluffy pups, pups with blocky heads and wiggling butts. Even whinny pups! Yep...Ginger was the whinny pup. I must also mention how much admiration and respect I have for High Hopes and staff for the work they do with our local shelters. My plan is to continue on until we can become CGC certified. See you ladies soon More...

We are owners of a 3 year old Yorkie, Macy, who had basically no training prior to taking Obedience 101.  Hope and Candice did a great job of teaching skills that were easy to learn but also challenged Macy (and us).  While we were in a group setting, we received a lot of personalized instruction and gained a lot of knowledge about how to better care for Macy.  I would recommend this class to anyone who has some frustrations with their dog's current behaviors and is in need of a little guidance.  We also had a lot of laughs having our dog socialize with all varieties of dogs! We rescued an incredibly handsome 1+ year old hound mix from the local shelter. When we brought him home, he was wild. My father assumed he had been adopted and returned a few times. He had terrible anxiety, chewed through things, was unwelcoming when we had company over (jumping, clingy-ness, personal space issues), was all around hard to manage, and barked constantly. For Christmas, my parents got me (and Fletch) some dog training sessions with Hope. I loved that she came to our house and could see us all in our regular surroundings. She was so in tune to what we were doing, and not too shy to let me know that Fletch was bossing me around and I was re-enforcing a lot of the behaviors I hated. We had a great intro session, and Fletch was so smart! He loved training and when Hope would come over. We saw a difference instantly and he became much easier to manage with each session. We found that exercising his brain was just as important as exercising his body. Fletcher is a true success story. Though he is by no means the perfect dog I am now more able to recognize how his behaviors, my role in encouraging/discouraging those behaviors, and how to exercise him. Hope was so nice and cared about us and our concerns, but wasn't scared to show us ways in which we could improve to help Fletcher. That is what I really feel made the most difference, and made Hope the best in Roanoke. I would strongly recommend High Hopes to all of my friends and family with new dogs or dogs with concerning behavior. More...

You can tell that Hope and her assistants, Madeline and Tina, love their job by observing the wonderful rapport that they have with their canine students and handlers. We took the beginner and advanced group classes with our adult rescue dog. Even though it was a group class, Hope recognized any problem areas her students were having and gave each individual attention when needed. She conducts her classes with humor, enthusiasm and lots of knowledge and experience. I would highly recommend High Hopes Dog Training to anyone wanting a well behaved canine member of their family and community. More...

I highly recommend Hope Cogen of High Hopes Dog Training to anyone with a fur-baby. I contacted Hope after adopting Ella, an 8-week-old Lab mix who was the cutest of the litter, of course! We had recently lost our 6 year-old Golden Retriever, Abby, to cancer. I thought getting a puppy would be just what I needed to fill the hole left by the loss of my sweet Abby. However, I had completely forgotten that having a puppy is like having a baby! At this time, I also had a toddler in the house and was in WAY over my head. I called Hope and she immediately set up an appointment with me that week. She gave me a refresher on everything to expect from a puppy. She helped me potty train and crate train Ella and taught me the best ways to solve those bad teething moments. She even helped me puppy-proof my home and teach my daughter how to interact with her new "sister".Hope's expertise was exactly what I needed to help get me through those first few months. When I found Hope, I was very desperate and regretted the decision I had made to adopt our new pup. Hope helped me get over my anxiety and taught me how to HAPPILY balance a puppy, a 3-year-old and our 10-year-old Golden all at the same time. She is a wonderful and caring dog trainer More...
