Helen has an amazing variety of skills she brings to her practice. She is steady, dependable, and reliable which is critical when you are coming to her with your own life in chaos. She is highly intelligent and unfailingly kind. She is always professional and keeps fair and appropriate boundaries, but within those boundaries she puts forth an extraordinary effort for each client, definitely above and beyond. She also doesn't hesitate if there is a step that you need to take to improve your life- you know it, she knows it- but you're trying to get out of it to give you a proverbial "kick in the pants" to get you moving, all with a good sense of humor and a pure heart. My favorite thing she has said to me was that she will work hard for me (and she has) but she won't work harder than I am. Her therapeutic style is a masterful combination of steady warmth and support and kind but firm insistence that you take responsibility for your own happiness. She does not foster dependence. She helps find resources that might help you on a journey to better mental health and she is extremely supportive, but you are the one who needs to actually do it and she really somehow helps you believe that you can.
