What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
The secret to taking a great portrait is to connect with the model, whether it be a three year old child, or a 16 year old dog.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I prefer to have a consult with my clients before they get in front of the camera so we can plan for their session. For a newborn session, I would ask if there were siblings, or grandparents that were going to come to the session. For older babies and children, I would want to know if there were any special needs that might need to be met for the child. For families, I want to know a little about what they want to do with the photos, and how they plan on working their larger framed portraits into their décor.
What do you love most about your job?
I am a very down to earth person, not fancy at all. I love my community and I love getting to know my clients. I love that my baby clients come back many times during that first year and become friends. I love seeing them bring those babies back year after year and seeing the changes they are making. I love watching my families grow. Many times they start out as a senior client, then engagement, wedding, dogs, then babies. The relationship that is built over time is very important to me.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I owned another business before. My daddy was just at the point of being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and I knew my parents would need some help. I sold that business and joined the small photography business with my husband. I needed that flexibility during the years I was raising my daughter and as both my parents' health declined. My daughter is now grown up and both my parents are gone, but I cherish the time I had with them by having my own photography studio.

My clients are the BEST and I strive to continue my education on a regular basis so I can continue to deliver top quality images for them. I am not the cheapest! I believe in investing in beautiful products and taking the time with each client to deliver images that will be enjoyed for generations to come. I treasure the opportunity capture a second of time that can be enjoyed for so long.
