Wanted to try the famous delicious food in the area and Yelp sent me here for Chinese fast food. Ordered one item combo with mushroom chicken. Food was delicious and there was a ton of it. Don't think about the small portions from the bear fast food chain. There was plenty of fried rice, chow mein and chicken. I finished like 80% and was stuffed. Prices are reasonable. I usually get the two combo with tangerine chicken and mushroom chicken with chow mein and fried rice. Their green beans, teriyaki chicken are good as well. Yum! I love little take out spots like this! My frequent go to has been tasty goody for years but I finally tried this spot out and it did not disappoint! After seeing it so many times on TikTok, my brother and I finally went to go see what it was about.Great prices for the amount of food you're getting. It's sad to see what has become of this place. I've been coming here since the mid90s. Even my kids ask if I can grab take out from here but it's no longer the same. I remember hearing a couple tell the servers "I came all the way from Long Beach to try this place out" I wanted to tell under this new owner/management, the pile of food we use to get is no longer.People say it's recession, and I completely understand. But to increase the price and decrease the serving portions doesn't add up. Yesterday, July 30th, I decided to make the trip from Whittier to try this place. My husband kept asking for this location especially after reviews from a foodie on Instagram. The pictures and reviews specifically for the Imperial Shrimp were too good to be true in my opinion. This dish is $18 dollars and some change but basically almost $20 for this entree ALONE. I decided to order to give it a try and I regretted it so so bad. I hate ordering out of my usual orders but this one hurt really bad especially $20 lol. I first tried the broccoli and I should've just stopped there. It was terrible, vinegary, awful blanched broccoli but it gets worse. The shrimp were disgusting. Literally I couldn't even eat a third shrimp. I got sick to my stomach and couldn't finish the rest of my food. By the way, the rest of the food was mediocre to say the least. There was such an off putting taste to the shrimp where you knew, EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK. I couldn't believe how bad it was. Do not trust foodie influencers either, they get paid to eat and never give an honest opinion. You'll see the guys sticker of "APPROVAL" on the door and menu inside. I am so happy I discovered Happy Wok becauase it truly makes me happy every time I order from them. Happy Wok is a family business that has been around at the same location for 33 years! I can call them the OG chinese takeout spot in the Rowland Heights area. What we ordered:BBQ pork, Spicy Tangerine Chicken, Spicy Shrimps, string beans, crab ragoon, chowmein and fried rice.My favorite is the spicy tangerine chicken. I just love the flavors of it. it has a different type of spicy and sweet flaor and you will get hooked once you try it for the first time. BBQ is another must get. It tastes just like the ones you get at the chinses deli but better flavor. I just love how they are so consistent with the receipe. It never fails. Happy Wok has been an iconic restaurant and small business owned entity for as long as I can remember. I first ate at that restaurant with my husband when we first started dating. That was over 30 years ago! Throughout the years, the recipes has not changed and there was only one owner until just a few years ago. I can honestly say that owner, Dianne, has turned this iconic restaurant until something even more amazing. She uses the same core recipes but spiced it up. She remodeled the restaurant with the same feel but just a touch of trendiness. When you walk in, there are nothing but smiles and laughter as they tell you welcome.The food is fresh and piping hot. They are definitely not stingy on the proportions that they give you, and the owner has mentioned several times that she tries her best to keep the pricing fair for the community.My ultimate favorite dishes are the legendary tangerine chicken and their barbecue pork. They have a great selection on items to choose from, all of which have great flavor!! The portions are also very good for the price you pay. I was maybe too excited to try this spot out because of Grub with Greg on Instagram. So I was let down and wasn't so impressed after trying the food out. BEST KUNG PAO CHICKEN EVER!! 9 years ago we used to live in Rowland Heights and would always order from here. Tried this place for the first time and it was disgusting. The chicken teriyaki was dry and flavorless. The beef Brocolli was not what I am used to. I really wanted to love this place but it was so-so the first time we went. The chow mein and black pepper chicken were sooooo good! But, their plain veggies were so over cooked they were basically mush and I got the spicy tangerine chicken and it was also so over cooked it was basically inedible. The funny thing about living in an area with tons of authentic Chinese restaurants is that it's actually kinda hard to find a place with greasy Chinese food to-go. I actually would not have found out about Happy Wok if not for the SGV Eats group on Facebook. So once I did, well I had to try it.Got a two item combo with broccoli beef, BBQ pork, and chow mein. I liked the chow mein a lot, it's pretty hard to mess this up. Broccoli beef and BBQ pork were solid, nothing to write home about. I probably should've ordered something else other than the broccoli beef because I definitely got more broccoli than beef, but eh that's what you get lol. Service was ok. I loved coming here while I was growing up! Honestly, as time went by, I forgot about this place, until I found it on social media. Found out about this place on a Facebook SGV Eats group. Didn't feel like cooking dinner and wanted Panda Express but remembered this place so I drove by on way home. Food is very fresh and tasty. LOCATION - Happy Wok can be found in a large plaza that includes lots of shops and restaurants, like Daiso. The layout of the plaza is a little strange in terms of entering one way and exiting another just to park.
